Right on schedule, Panasonic's gone and made its thinly-veiled <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/11/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3-leaked-expected-to-launch-tomorrow/">Lumix DMC-G3</a> Micro Four Thirds shooter official. The camera succeeds the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/07/panasonic-gets-official-with-lumix-dmc-g2-and-dmc-g10-micro-four/">G2</a> with a 16 megapixel sensor, support for 1080p AVCHD video recording with stereo audio, 4fps burst shooting at full resolution, and an articulating, 3-inch touchscreen that supplants some of the dials adorning the last-gen model. In addition to poking around menus, you can touch that display to focus on your subject, and slide your finger to tweak exposure, white balance, and depth of field -- all in all, not unlike how you might interact with a smartphone camera. And, at 11.8 ounces, the aluminum-clad body weighs about ten percent less than its predecessor. Look for it in June for $700 in brown, red, and white -- in addition to your garden-variety black. In the market for something more compact? Panny also trotted out the Lumix-FH7, a 16 megapixel point-and-shoot with 4x optical zoom and 720p movie recording. Oodles of photos below with a press release after the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3/#4127202"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/05/g3hand7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3/#4127203"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/05/g3hand8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3/#4127204"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/05/g3kbacklcd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3/#4127205"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/05/g3kback_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3/#4127206"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/05/g3kback2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fh7/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH7</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fh7/#4127075"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/05/fh7kbackf_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fh7/#4127076"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/05/fh7kfront_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fh7/#4127077"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/05/fh7kside_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fh7/#4127078"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/05/fh7kslant_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/12/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3-ups-the-interchangeable-lens-ante-wit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 ups the interchangeable lens ante with fancy new touchscreen</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/12/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3-ups-the-interchangeable-lens-ante-wit/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 ups the interchangeable lens ante with fancy new touchscreen</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 12 May 2011 04:00:00 EST. Panasonic is rumored to be launching the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/panasonic+lumix/">Lumix</a> DMC-G3 tomorrow, the update to its Micro Four Thirds <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/07/panasonic-gets-official-with-lumix-dmc-g2-and-dmc-g10-micro-four/">G2</a>. According to 43 Rumors, the new cam will be 25 percent smaller than its predecessor, and will include a 15.8 megapixel sensor and a 3-inch articulating LCD. Overall, the camera appears to have a very similar form factor to the G2, but scraps the left dial, presumably shifting those controls to the touch-enabled display. The site lists the launch rumor at its highest accuracy level (think DHS threat levels, but for camera rumors), so they're pretty sure we'll have all the details come tomorrow morning.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/11/panasonic-lumix-dmc-g3-leaked-expected-to-launch-tomorrow/">Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 leaked, expected to launch tomorrow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 11 May 2011 15:41:00 EST. Well, lookie here, a couple of little firmware files have wandered into our midst. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/panasonic">Panasonic</a> gets credit for the most interesting with its 1.11 update for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/dmc-g2">DMC-G2</a>, offering a "performance enhancement," an improved AE lock that holds even when using the touch shutter, and support for the new H-FT012 lens we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/22/panasonic-lumix-gh2-and-3d-interchangeable-lens-hands-on/">recently played with</a> -- the one that adds a third dimension to your otherwise 2D shooter. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/pentax">Pentax</a>, meanwhile, has a 1.01 update for its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/k-5">K-5</a> that will let you capture 20 RAW images in a burst, which a lot more than the eight it can grab currently. Then there's "improved stability for general performance such as exposure range on HyP mode," which sounds awful nice too. Both are available now, so mosey those SD cards on over and click on through.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/18/panasonic-and-pentax-pack-a-pair-of-pickled-firmware-updates-dm/">Panasonic and Pentax pack a pair of pickled firmware updates, DMC-G2 gets 3D, K-5 better bursting</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 18 Nov 2010 09:05:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">There still isn't much in the way of actual details or pictures, but <em>4/3 Rumors</em> is reporting that it's heard from sources who say the Panasonic GF2 Micro Four Thirds camera (successor to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/panasonic,gf1">GF1</a>) will be announced as soon as next week. What's more, those same sources say that the camera will be the smallest mirrorless camera to date, and that it will use the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/panasonic,g2">Panasonic G2</a> 12-megapixel sensor. That rumor is further backed up by a new listing for a GF2 at the Korean Radio Research Agency, although that unfortunately doesn't provide any details beyond the name. You might not want to ditch your GF1 just yet, though -- while camera will supposedly be announced next week, it apparently won't actually be released until sometime early next year.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/03/panasonics-prototype-micro-four-thirds-3d-lens-and-body-arrive/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/panasonic-g-series-3d-lens-samsung-lumix-3d-lens-g-series-prototype-hero-engadget.jpg" alt="" /></a></div>
And here it is, Panasonic's prototype G-series micro-four-thirds shooter with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/27/panasonic-will-offer-interchangable-3d-lens-for-micro-four-third/">new interchangeable 3D lens</a>. We caught the pair hanging out at IFA with nary a soul around to take notice. Too bad for them, good for you if you've made the jump to a panny MFT as the lens will ultimately be compatible with your Lumix G micro system... probably -- unfortunately, Panasonic isn't saying which cams will be eligible for the software update. From the sound of it, the whole kit will get official in just a few week at Photokina with a new G-series body playing host to the new 3D lens. Here in Berlin, however, we've got a G2 body with an updated 3D image processing system doing the dirty work. Nevertheless, it was fully functional and produced a reasonable 3D image with plenty of pop that was ready to view on a brand new Panasonic 3D television. Come on, a 3D television is nothing without 3D content. Sneaky Panasonic, sneaky.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonics-prototype-micro-four-thirds-3d-lens-and-body-arrive-in-berlin/">Panasonic's prototype Micro Four Thirds 3D lens and body arrive in Berlin</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonics-prototype-micro-four-thirds-3d-lens-and-body-arrive-in-berlin/#3330850"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/panasonic-3d-prototype-dsc4583-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonics-prototype-micro-four-thirds-3d-lens-and-body-arrive-in-berlin/#3330851"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/panasonic-3d-prototype-dsc4581-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonics-prototype-micro-four-thirds-3d-lens-and-body-arrive-in-berlin/#3330853"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/panasonic-3d-prototype-dsc4577-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonics-prototype-micro-four-thirds-3d-lens-and-body-arrive-in-berlin/#3330854"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/panasonic-3d-prototype-dsc4575-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonics-prototype-micro-four-thirds-3d-lens-and-body-arrive-in-berlin/#3330855"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/panasonic-3d-prototype-dsc4572-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/03/panasonics-prototype-micro-four-thirds-3d-lens-and-body-arrive/">Panasonic's prototype Micro Four Thirds 3D lens and body arrive in Berlin</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 03 Sep 2010 20:20:00 EST. It all started with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MicroFourThirds/">Micro Four Thirds</a>, but now just about everyone is jonesing to play along in the mirrorless camera game. The crew over at <span style="font-style: italic;">Serious</span><i> Compacts</i> managed to get ahold of quite a few contenders (Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/03/samsung-nx10-made-official-aps-c-sensor-and-amoled-screen-cra/">NX10</a>, Sony's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/11/sony-nex-5-is-small-really-really-small-video/">NEX5</a>, Olympus' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/05/olympus-e-p2-official-patches-over-e-p1-problems-and-jacks-up-t/">E-P2</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/01/olympus-e-pl1-review/">E-PL1</a>, and Panasonic's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/10/panasonic-gf1-is-ready-to-take-the-plunge-big-daddy-style-with-t/">GF1</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/07/panasonic-gets-official-with-lumix-dmc-g2-and-dmc-g10-micro-four/">GF2</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/16/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gh1-gets-firmware-hack-for-new-high-quality/">GH1</a>), and rather than taking 'em apart one by one, they've decided to size 'em up in a fantastic size comparison piece. From lenses to bodies, all six cameras are shown from various angles, and even if you've convinced yourself to not be in the market for one of these bad boys, the eye candy alone is worth a peek. Furthermore, the group has been entered into a telling ISO comparison test, but if you came here looking for a spoiler, you'll be sorely disappointed. Another entrant has entered the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MicroFourThirds/">Micro Four Thirds</a> ring, and it's Panasonic delivering the Lumix DMC-G2 -- a new shooter with similar still performance but, this time, some rather nice enhancements, the most major being a three-inch articulating touchscreen. You can control some aspects of the camera with a touch, perhaps most useful being tap-to-focus augmented by the camera keeping focus on whatever you tapped on, even if it moves around. But, a full suite of physical buttons and dials still await your fingers, enabling you to tweak settings without fiddling with menus. The 720p video recording now supports AVCHD, giving your SDHC or SDXC memory card a break, and there's an input for an optional stereo mic. Ultimately still performance here is said to be identical to Panasonic's more budget-minded <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/dmc-g10">DMC-G10</a>, which clocks in $200 cheaper than the G2's MSRP of $799, but lacks 720p video and the fancy touchscreen. Worth the extra cost? That depends on how deep your pockets are.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">Panasonic already outed its new Lumix G2 and G10 Micro Four Thirds cameras <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/07/panasonic-gets-official-with-lumix-dmc-g2-and-dmc-g10-micro-four/">back in March</a>, but it's just now finally gotten official with the pricing and availability for them. While there's still no word on an exact release date, both cameras are now slated to be available in "late-May," with the G2 running $799.95 in your choice of red, blue or black, while the black-only G10 will set you back $599.95. That will get you the same 12.1-megapixel sensor, Venus Engine HD II, and LUMIX G VARIO 14-42mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S. lens on each, while the G2 boasts an added movable touchscreen -- a first for a Micro Four Thirds camera. Full press release is after the break.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/19/panasonic-announces-pricing-availability-for-lumix-g2-g10/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Panasonic announces pricing, availability for Lumix G2, G10</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/19/panasonic-announces-pricing-availability-for-lumix-g2-g10/">Panasonic announces pricing, availability for Lumix G2, G10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 19 Apr 2010 14:43:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Panasonic/">Panasonic</a> has the news day all to itself with its newfangled pair of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MicroFourThirds/">Micro Four Thirds</a> shooters, and in case you were wondering -- yeah, this is the exact same duo that we saw <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/05/panasonic-leaks-own-g2-and-g10-micro-four-thirds-cams-in-macro-f/">slip out</a> on Friday. Up first is the Lumix DMC-G2, which looks an awful lot like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/01/panasonics-micro-four-thirds-lumix-dmc-g1-reviewed-only-knock/">G1</a> it replaces and is touted as the first interchangable lens system camera with touch-control shooting. Granted, we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/12/canon-powershot-sd980-is-unboxing-and-impressions/">haven't exactly warmed</a> to the idea of using a touchpanel to fire off a shot, but hey, it is what it is. Other specs include a 12.1 megapixel Live MOS sensor, Venus Engine HD II technology, a 3-inch rear LCD and a 720p (AVCHD Lite) movie mode, though curiously enough a price and release date eludes us. Moving on, there's the DMC-G10, which is supposedly the "world's lightest" interchangeable lens camera with a viewfinder; this one packs the same 12.1 megapixel sensor and Venus Engine HD II as on the G2, but the 3-inch LCD lacks tilt / swivel / touch options. We're still waiting on pricing for this one as well, but now is as good a time as any to mention that both fully support those obnoxiously expensive <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SDXC/">SDXC</a> cards. Huzzah!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/07/panasonic-gets-official-with-lumix-dmc-g2-and-dmc-g10-micro-four/">Panasonic gets official with Lumix DMC-G2 and DMC-G10 Micro Four Thirds cameras</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 07 Mar 2010 10:06:00 EST. Whoopsadaisies. Seems Panasonic "accidentally" posted specs and images of its upcoming G2 and G10 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/micro%20four%20thirds">Micro Four Thirds</a> cameras to its web site just long enough to be snagged by a few different photog sites. While there's no denying that the incident occurred (the pics are certainly legit), there's some speculation at <i>43rumors</i> that the specifications are still "work in progress" and should be considered only partially correct. Nevertheless, let's go with what we've got keeping in mind that some of this might change. Both cams are said to feature a 12.1 megapixel sensor, touchscreen with touch shutter and touch MF Assist, and ISO 100 to 6,200 sensitivity. The G2 differs with its one-touch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/avchd%20lite">AVCHD Lite</a> movie mode (1,280 x 720, 60p) and 3-inch articulating display with live view. The G10 then, offers a "double live view" (LCD and live view finder) glimpse at the action while recording 1,280 x 720p motion JPEG videos at 30fps. However, the leaked spec sheet inconsistently mentions an AVCHD Lite recording format for the G10 as well... so who knows. Panasonic is expected to make an announcement on March 7th; surely you can wait you a few days?<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-leaks-own-g2-and-g10-micro-four-thirds-cams-in-macro-fashion/">Panasonic leaks own G2 and G10 Micro Four Thirds cams in macro fashion</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-leaks-own-g2-and-g10-micro-four-thirds-cams-in-macro-fashion/#2772012"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/panasonicg10panny-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-leaks-own-g2-and-g10-micro-four-thirds-cams-in-macro-fashion/#2772013"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/g2k-15panny-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-leaks-own-g2-and-g10-micro-four-thirds-cams-in-macro-fashion/#2772014"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/g2k-11panny-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-leaks-own-g2-and-g10-micro-four-thirds-cams-in-macro-fashion/#2772015"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/g2k-2-panny-leak-1267778380_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/panasonic-leaks-own-g2-and-g10-micro-four-thirds-cams-in-macro-fashion/#2772016"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/03/g2k-13panny-leak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/05/panasonic-leaks-own-g2-and-g10-micro-four-thirds-cams-in-macro-f/">Panasonic leaks own G2 and G10 Micro Four Thirds cams in macro fashion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 05 Mar 2010 03:40:00 EST. We told you Panny had some <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2010/01/11/panasonics-2010-plasma-line-has-much-better-black-levels/">crazy low black levels in its 2010 plasmas</a>, didn't we? Well, say hello to the retail products and their first price tags, both predictably found in Japan. The Viera G2 series is arriving within a few short weeks -- February 5 to be precise -- and will be headed by the 50-inch TH-P50G2, which is joined by 46- and 42-inch options. All panels boast Full HD resolution, have three ports each for HDMI and Composite cables, and are expected to cost &yen;320,000, &yen;260,000, and &yen;220,000, respectively. That roughly equates to $3,500 for the whopper and $2,400 for the smallest family members, which when you think about that mercurial five million to one contrast ratio sounds almost like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/11/panasonic-2009-viera-hdtvs-official-pricing-revealed/">a bargain</a>. If you can tolerate a <em>measly</em> 2,000,000:1 contrast, Panasonic is also announcing some more affordable S2 panels (pictured after the break), which you can have for as little as $2,100 in US money for the 42-inch variety.
