For all the sneakerheads and hypebeasts out there, if you received an email from StockX asking you to reset your password, then it was probably authentic. The online marketplace told Engadget in a statement that it was "recently alerted to suspicious activity involving our platform." Exactly what that included is unspecified, but "out of an abundance of caution," it's updated security and is asking users to reset their passwords while an investigation continues. As usual, we'd hope you aren't sharing passwords across different services, and if you haven't already set up a password manager or started using two-factor authentication wherever available, this is a great time to start.

Tens of thousands of Slack users will have to change their passwords after the company learned new details about a 2015 data breach. If you created your account before March of that year, haven't changed your password since and don't log in via a single-sign-on provider (i.e. an organization's Slack network), you'll need to update your credentials.

Almost a year after rolling out two-factor authentication for verifying your logins, Twitter is announcing another welcome security update. This time, it's an improved password-reset process and a smarter system for identifying suspicious logins. The new password-reset process is especially useful; now, when you forget your login and need to create a new one, you can specify which phone number or email address where Twitter should send your reset information. If you don't have access to the number or email on file, the social network will give you the option to enter new ones. This feature is especially helpful for those traveling abroad, who may not have access to their usual gadgets. It will definitely come in handy for anyone who hasn't updated their email on Twitter, too.

If you've logged in to use Kickstarter, perhaps to support an up-and-coming MMO, then pay attention: earlier today, the site reported to users that it was hacked this past week and customer data was accessed. In a security notice posted on the site, Kickstarter said that it was notified by authorities this past Wednesday that hackers gained access to the site. The company has since closed the breach, bolstered its security, and notified customers to change their passwords. Credit card information was not part of the accessed information, but user names, email addresses, and encrypted passwords were. "We have since improved our security procedures and systems in numerous ways, and we will continue to do so in the weeks and months to come," the company posted.

Kickstarter accounts were hacked Wednesday night, the crowdfunding service website has announced. While Kickstarter claims no credit card data was accessed and that only two accounts had unauthorized activity, management (and good sense) suggests you change your passwords as soon as possible. "We're incredibly sorry that this happened," Kickstarter CEO Yancey Strickler wrote regarding the matter. "We set a very high bar for how we serve our community, and this incident is frustrating and upsetting. We have since improved our security procedures and systems in numerous ways, and we will continue to do so in the weeks and months to come. We are working closely with law enforcement, and we are doing everything in our power to prevent this from happening again." It should go without saying, but those of you who use your Kickstarter password elsewhere will want to be extra quick on the draw. [Image: Kickstarter]
