Rumor alert! NamcoBandai is allegedly planning a load of new, and new-ish, games in their Tales series for Nintendo consoles. The rumor gives titles for three new (potential) games, one of which is headed for the DS. If internet rumormongering is to be believed, Namco is working on a 2D sequel to the oft-ported Tales of Phantasia. We can't comment on the veracity of the rumor's specifics, but it seems likely that more Tales games are headed, in abundance, to every platform that Japanese gamers like. Not only has the series already made its dual-screened debut, RPG-spamming has been their modus operandi since before the DS was popular. Now that the most popular console in Japan by far is also the cheapest to develop for (being a handheld), continuing the trend seems like a Tale of the Obvious.

The writers of Joystiq are SO B1A53D!!! They showed off an amazing looking Tales of the World trailer, and the best commentary they could come up with was calling the game "Fable Lite". Lame. Us PSP fanboys know that this Tales game allows you to create your own character and go on a fantastic quest with stars of previous Tales games. Unlike the upcoming DS Tales of the Tempest, the PSP-exclusive Tales of the World will also feature downloadable levels. The commercial reveals that people that pre-order the game in Japan will receive a bonus DVD: "Lemon Gumi." Unfortunately, a US release hasn't been announced, so Tales fans like myself may be forced to simply import the game. With impressive graphics, and a cast that includes characters from Symphonia, Legendia, Phantasia, and more, it might be worth it.

Chris loves reporting the Japanese sales numbers, especially when not a single PSP title appears on the list. I, on the other hand, love to report the sales numbers when we win. The PSP hasn't had too many first place victories. In fact, it's only had one so far: SD Gundam (which I reported to you guys). This week, Sony's handheld manages to secure another first place victory amongst a plethora of DS games. Check out the sales data: 1. (PSP, Bandai Namco) Tales of Phantasia Full Voice Edition - 66,263 2. (DS, Nintendo) New Super Mario Bros. - 53,011 / 3,027,038 3. (DS, Square Enix) Final Fantasy III - 49,475 / 598,476 4. (DS, Nintendo) Mogitate Tingle no Bara Iro Rupee Land - 32,792 5. (DS, Nintendo) More Brain Age - 32,054 / 3,151,912 6. (DS, Nintendo) Shaberu! DS Cuisine Navi - 25,458 / 445,191 7. (GBA, Nintendo) Rhythm Tengoku - 24,676 / 148,108 8. (DS, Nintendo) Animal Crossing Wild World - 24,027 / 3,205,762 9. (PS2, Sega) Phantasy Star Universe - 20,431 / 140,633 10. (DS, Nintendo) Mario Basket 3 on 3 - 20,372 / 288,136I'm surprised that a port of a port of an old NES game did so well, but the Japanese sure do love their Tales games. IGN wasn't too fond of the game, saying there aren't enough improvements in the game to make it a worthwhile port. And when you consider that the amazing-looking Tales of the World is heading to the PSP soon, I'm surprised by the strong sales of this game. Well, at least it beat the new Tingle RPG which I may or may not have imported. Check after the cut to see some videos from Tales of Phantasia in action.[Via NeoGAF; Thanks ldd!]

  • Tales of Phantasia features new goodies on PSP

Bandai Namco sure loves the PSP. They're responsible for at least four Tales games on the PSP: Tales of Destiny 2, Tales of Eternia, Tales of the World, and a remake of Tales of Phantasia. None of these games have any plans on crossing over to America (why?!), so avid Tales fans have no choice but to look to import shops. To add insult to injury, Bandai Namco released new screens and details about Tales of Phantasia: Full Voice Edition. If it wasn't obvious from the title, the game features full voice acting, a great plus for fans of seiyuu. There's also a new gameplay element: Grade Shop, where players can trade their Grade points to alter gameplay mechanics, like experience points, difficulty, HP and more. It sounds very similar to Tales of Symphonia's system. Also, those who pre-order the game will also receive a: "special DVD, containing an original drama, interviews with voice actors, an artwork gallery and trailers of cherished event scenes." For you blokes that don't live in Japan, you can import it from YesAsia.com for $50, shipped.See also:New screenshots from Game Watch[Via IGN Boards]
