The fifth Genesis Classics Collection is now available on Steam, perfect for PC players who want to relive the glory of their Sega-oriented youths. The same goes for Nintendo-aligned Console War veterans, who now, wise beyond their years, look to experience what life was like on the other side of the trenches. The Genesis Classics Collection 5 boasts 10 games for $7.99, or $2.99 a piece if you'd rather go a la carte. Amongst the recommissioned relics from yesteryear are Phantasy Stars II through IV, Wonder Boy in Monster World, Vectorman 2, and Beyond Oasis. Jump past the break for the full list, which also includes Dynamite Headdy, one of the best, weirdest games ever made for Sega's classic warhorse.

Unless you've got a PS2 or a PSP, there's really no excuse to miss out on downloading Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium, a game that is treated with justifiable reverence by fans of the franchise's early years. Mega Man 3 might not represent the peak of its respective series, but it's still worth a punt for 500 points. Especially as you don't have to look at this. Mega Man 3 -- NES -- 500 Wii Points Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium -- Mega Drive -- 800 Wii Points You know the drill: embedded footage of both games is past the jump.%Gallery-32143%

One of the most highly-anticipated Virtual Console titles arrives in Japan today, eliminating the need to hunt down an expensive cartridge. Even the somewhat high 900 point price Nintendo is asking is understandable given the nature of the game. That's right, today Japanese gamers can celebrate the arrival of Ninja Commando -- and, according to the ESRB, we could see it soon as well! What? It looks fun. Super Mario RPG (Super Famicom, 1 player, 900 Wii Points) Phantasy Star IV Sennenki no Owari Ni (The End of the Millennium) (Mega Drive, 1 player, 700 Wii Points Paranoia (Psychosis) (PC Engine, 1 player, 600 Wii Points) Ninja Commando (Neo Geo, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points) As if four awesome VC games weren't enough, Nintendo of Japan has also made three WiiWare games available: Saikyou Ginsei Go, Blue Oasis, and -- yay! -- Ouchi de Mugen Puchi Puchi! Wow, seven games? Our Wii Shop is officially a joke.

Nintendo of Japan updated their Virtual Console page with next week's planned updates, and the releases are definitely worth reporting early. Since Super Mario RPG was announced as a June release, it may seem like a no-brainer that the game is being released next week, but we've seen plenty of games silently delayed, going unreleased as the month winds down.Happily, Super Mario RPG is specifically dated for release on the 24th. According to Nintendo's page about the VC release, Square Enix retains rights to their original characters, which helps explain why it's taken so long to appear on the VC.Super Mario RPG will be joined by Phantasy Star IV, Paranoia, and Ninja Commando (which is a pretty good title for a game that is basically Commando with ninjas).

According to the USK (the German ratings board), three new Mega Drive games will be available on that country's Virtual Console soon (and therefore the rest of Europe's, and therefore everywhere soon afterward): Gleylancer, Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom, and Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium. Gleylancer is notable for being another Japan-only game, and the Phantasy Stars are notable for being great RPGs (yes, even III). IV is regarded as the best in a series of already-wonderful games. This should come as no surprise, really, because the major deciding factor for VC availability of any Genesis/Mega Drive game is "Is it on the Sega Genesis Collection disc?" as both Phantasy Star 3 and 4 are. We go on and on about that disc, but it continues to be relevant! We'd never begrudge Sega for making these great games available in as many formats as possible, though.
