Teddy Ruxpin's LCD makeover is occasionally charming

Teddy Ruxpin may be one of the iconic toys of the eighties but, let's face it, he was in need of a little update. After all, kids are used to looking at screens and a lot of them don't even know what a cassette tape is. Wicked Cool's new Teddy gets a bit of a 21st century makeover by baking LCDs right into his adorable furry face. He still reads stories to your kid, but now his eyes can say a lot more.

  • There's something weird about this ordinary man plushie

Owning a stuffed version of a perfectly ordinary man in a nice suit is kind of weird. This Octodad plushie is 10 inches long and even comes with little magnets in its hands, so you can hang this well-coiffed gentleman on all kinds of things (mostly refrigerators). This adorable bit of Octodad merchandise is available exclusively at Fangamer, along with two classy t-shirts and a "How to Prepare Tako 'Tosan" poster. These are all up for pre-order right now, with the plushie, poster and Cephalopadre shirt due to ship by late November, and the Dad on Deck shirt shipping by mid-late December. The plushie is $18 alone, or $23 for it and a PC download code of Octodad: Dadliest Catch, courtesy of Humble Bundle. The shirts are $23 each and the poster is $16 (no game code options there). A series of adorable plushies in the shape of Link, Zelda and Tingle are available for pre-order now, as spotted by Tomopop. They each come in sizes under 19 cm tall, while Link also has a "medium" size, which runs 22 cm. The plushies are available for pre-order from HobbyLink Japan, $12 for the smalls and $20 for the medium Link – before shipping costs. They're expected to ship in February. What a great way to celebrate Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, which we think is a "perfect handheld Zelda experience."

With the introduction of Google's Chrome and stepped-up games from the likes of Internet Explorer and Safari, Firefox is arguably not quite the darling of the browser wars it was when it first hit the scene in 2003. And while Mozilla has certainly made progress on that front, the organization understands that diversifying is an important factor in the future success of the company, first through Thunderbird and more recently through the Firefox OS, a mobile operating system targeted toward users in developing nations. G-Fox, meanwhile, marks a decidedly different direction for the foundation, which has made its name in the world of software. It's an adorable attempt, perhaps, to take the world's bedrooms and playrooms by storm. The plush is the real-world port of G-Fox, Mozilla Online China's large-headed, big-eyed take on the American mascot, Kit. The fox was first spotted in the wild at last year's Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai. Mozilla Online wasn't talking it up too much at the event, but naturally, we couldn't wait to get our hands on an early build. And for a first-generation product in a new space, we have to say, in the whole time we've been playing around with G-Fox, we've yet to encounter a single crash or slowdown in spite of extensive squeezing, head patting and tossing up in the air, adorably.

Machinarium may be over three years old at this point, but that doesn't mean that the adorability factor of its squat robotic protagonist has diminished in the interim since its release in October of 2009. In fact, we'd go so far as to say that the little guy has appreciated in cuteness since then, and will continue to do so.Case in point, this 10-inch tall stuffed version of Josef, which is now available for pre-order from developer Amanita Design. The toy is hand-made in Lipník nad Bečvou and costs $30, including shipping. You can even store useful items you find around the real world inside of Josef's robot body, just like in Machinarium. Delivery is expected "within 5 weeks," but you can get a better look right now in the gallery below.%Gallery-174701%

  • iCEO is a plush Steve Jobs

Throwboy's got a new pillow coming out soon, and as you can see above, it's in the shape of a plush Steve Jobs. I don't know -- some of you might say this is too soon after the late, great CEO's passage last October, but we certainly wouldn't have had a problem celebrating Steve in this way when he was alive, right? I figure that this man is an icon in every sense of the word, even the huggable ones. The iCEO pillow, as it's called, is available for preorder now, and ships in August for $60. It's 15 inches tall, with a 100% cotton turtleneck (of course), and 100% denim jeans (of course). And just in case you're still not sure if Steve would have appreciated this, Throwboy is also donating ten percent of the proceeds from the pillow to the American Cancer Society. Seems like a win all around to me.

  • Cut the Rope and Where's my Water getting toys, more content

The New York Toy Fair is on this week, and so collectors and toy buyers alike are hearing about all sorts of new products. And given that the iPhone is one of the largest brands around, it's probably no surprise that iOS-based game properties are very popular this year. Disney's Where's My Water is the latest iPhone game to get toys made for it. There are plush dolls coming soon of the main alligator character, as well as rubber duckies modeled after the duckies you collect in the acclaimed physics puzzler. And Cut the Rope's Om Nom Nom already has a plush made of himself, but there's even more on the way. Mattel has signed a deal to provide a board game based on the popular iPhone title, and it will apparently interact directly with the Cut the Rope app on your iPad as you play. Jakks Pacific has signed a deal to bring the game to your TV, with a dedicated toy that plugs in with the game pre-installed. And we can't leave the game itself out: There's an update coming (actually for the Cut the Rope: Experiments spinoff) called Bath Time, that adds some water-related puzzles to the mix. It's a sign of just how big Apple's App Store has gotten that these iPhone developers are able to spin properties off the games on this platform. Certainly both of these games have a lot going for them (EA owns Chillingo, which publishes Cut the Rope, in addition to Disney's Where's My Water), but the fact that these toys are being made at all speaks to how big the audience for these games is.

  • Fruit Ninja plushies prove it's possible to milk fruit

Other than coconuts, we mean. Halfbrick Studios is making a claim on more of your money, after some admittedly reasonable financial demands from the Fruit Ninja series. The developer has opened a store offering two themed plush toys, which include the cutest watermelon you've ever forcibly bisected, and a happy Sensei whom you can pretend is performing said cut. In the US, the Sensei sells for $16 (or 16 times the price of a copy of Fruit Ninja), the Watermelon for $15 (1.5 Fruit Ninja Kinects), and a "Training Pack" of both for $30. The Sensei is available now, but that adorable melon is shipping in mid-January. We may sound as if we're giving Halfbrick a hard time for cashing in on Fruit Ninja, but we're happy for the developer. The games have been universally worthwhile, and the toys are undeniably huggable. Besides, Halfbrick has to raise money to save the Australian game industry, pretty much single-handed.

  • Cut the Rope update, plush toys coming soon

The video below highlights an upcoming update for the popular Cut the Rope title on iOS -- Chillingo is bringing 25 new levels to the title, complete with some new game mechanics and features. Cartoon creature Om Nom will be able to be fed various types of foods, not just the candy he so craves, and as you can see in the video, there are some new bounce pads to deal with and a few new drawings to find and collect. Finding those drawings can apparently unlock prizes, like the chance to gift the game to a friend on Facebook. The update is version 1.4, called Toy Box, and should be available in the game soon. And there are also some plush dolls coming, as you can see above. Om Nom is portrayed in a few different moods and sizes, and all of these toys will be out sometime in October. I don't usually go in for stuffed toys, but I will say this: that's one cute little fella.

  • Minecraft Creeper plush seems like a horrible idea

When seeking out a new plush toy, one looks for overall softness and general adorability. Kittens or puppies, for example, make wonderful plushies. Abject terror, on the other hand, isn't usually associated with most plushies, making this Minecraft Creeper plushie from Arixystix particularly confusing. Then again, as noted on the Arixystix blog, the plushie is roughly the size of a small child, so we imagine its usefulness as a parenting aid would be exceptional. Thankfully for children everywhere, it doesn't appear to be for sale ... yet.

If we were given the choice of turn any character from the Mass Effect universe into an adorable plush doll, we'd probably lean towards the Elcor, or one of the Krogan -- you know, one of the cuddlier species. Prickly protagonist Garrus Vakarian? Way, way down on the list.

Today's batch of daily Steam weekend deals is pretty radical, decimating the prices of jams like The Ball, World of Goo and The Orange Box -- however, you shouldn't ignore the other big sale Valve is currently hosting. Dozens of shirts, hats and other pieces of merchandise from the company's titles are currently on sale through The Valve Store. Many pieces of apparel are temporarily marked down to just five bucks; that's some cheap holiday shopping for your more game-savvy acquaintances. If you can hold off from capitalizing on these offers, you might be interested in two new items which will soon arrive on the Valve Store's virtual shelves -- plushes modeled after Left 4 Dead's gnarliest foes, the Hunter and Tank. You'll be able to place these bad boys next to your equally squeezable (and upsetting) Boomer plush when they go on sale in late December.

  • Griffin's Woogie turns iPhone into a plush

When I was a kid, we just played with regular stuffed animals, and then Teddy Ruxpin came along and blew us all away. But kids these days, they get all kinds of cool stuff. Like look at this thing: they can stick an iPod touch in a "huggable plush accessory" called the Woogie, and run around with it to their heart's content, watching videos, playing with apps, and, I don't know, checking the weather, or whatever else it is that kids want to do on an iPod touch. I especially like Griffin's selling point on this one -- this case is a bonus for the kids, who get a piece of technology that's a little more fluffy and friendly than Apple's sleek designs. It's a bonus for parents too, as it's much harder to lose or seriously break the iPod when it's wrapped in the big mass of furry green tentacles. The $20 accessory even comes with its own app, where kids can preview Sesame Street books and, oh I don't know, check the weather or something. If I sound a little bitter, it's probably because I am: Teddy Ruxpin never ran Pocket Frogs for me. [via Super Punch]

No matter how you feel about the prospect of a DS Okami sequel made without the participation of Clover Studio staff, there's one thing that absolutely everyone is agreed upon: Okamiden's protagonist, Chibiterasu, looks extremely huggable. And now Capcom has made a Chibiterasu that can actually be hugged: a 45 cm (17.7 inch) plush version. Here's the bad news (yes, there is somehow bad news related to something so wonderful): the doll is only available through Capcom's Japanese online store, and is expected to ship October 31. If you happen to have a friend in Japan, they can order it for you for 5,040 yen ($58). [Via Siliconera]

If you're attempting to ween your teenage offspring off their collection of stuffed animals, we suggest investing in a line of plushies which are capable of scaring them out of their adorable addiction. Valve is releasing a set of five Left 4 Dead plush toys which should suit your needs quite well, the first of which -- based on the digestivally challenged "Boomer" special infected -- is currently available on Valve's online store for $49.99. That price is a tad steep, though each toy comes with a sound chip that can emit ten of the Boomer's in-game grunts and belches. Just think of it like a premium you're paying to really place your child's psyche deep within the nightmare zone. [Via Big Download]

With the estate of Philip K. Dick up in arms over the slightest commercial reference to his published works, we may come to regret the above headline. But it's worth the risk to bring more attention to this lovely, handcrafted Android pillow. Covered in fleece and filled with fluffy polyester for a texture that creator Craftsquatch describes as "firm yet springy," the cuddly 12-inch square, made-to-order cushion can be yours for $20 before shipping. If only it came with dessert.

So you hopped into the Blizzard Store and ordered yourself a plushie or two. Or maybe you picked up one from BlizzCon. Regardless, there you are, with at least one official Blizzard stuffed toy. Whether you collect them for yourself or have a child for whom you say that you bought them, you have one or more in your home... but now what? Does he sit on your desk? Does he sit on your lap? Is he used to recreate famous in-game battles? And the most important question of all: have you taken pictures of it? We here at WoW.com want to see your best plushie photos. There will be two categories: Plushies in The Wild and Plushies in Captivity. We will narrow down the best of both categories and offer them up to the readers for voting. The top three of each category will receive loot codes, provided by WoWTCGLoot.com. Details are after the break.

We first mentioned the upcoming plushies a few weeks ago. The Wind Rider Cub and Gryphon Hatchling are two stuffed animals that will inevitably steal the hearts of women and children. And big, manly WoW bloggers who didn't even cry at the beginning of UP! Nope, not one single tear. That being said, we thought we'd point out that the plushies are currently available in the Blizzard Store. There's no word on what the availability is going to be like, so I highly recommend that you trot over immediately and pick up your new best friend. However, the site does say they're only available or a limited time. So really, hurry. Don't worry about us -- we've placed our order. I certainly wasn't sitting here spamming Refresh while I waited for them to become available. Nope, not at all. %Gallery-85155%
