TCL made a name for itself with bargain-priced 4K TVs that don't skimp on must-have features like Dolby Vision HDR, but the company is ready to move on to 8K TVs, new technology and other devices. At its CES 2020 press conference, TCL confirmed that its 8K Roku TV is still on the way and introduced Vidrian, a new form of Mini-LED technology that should mean better contrast and luminance.

Sony has just finished its IFA press conference, where the star of the show was the launch of the new Xperia 5. The device has a 6.1-inch, 21:9 ratio OLED display, and boasts that it has Dolby Atmos sound and three cameras. Not to mention that it'll pair with a DualShock controller, making those Fortnite matches on the go a hundred thousand times easier. But if you want to see the announcement for yourself, watch the edited highlights of Sony's event in less time than it takes to get an overpriced coffee at that place on the corner.

PS Vita TV is coming to the West, Sony announced at E3 2014. The device that allows you to play Vita games on your TV will cost $99 standalone, or $139 for a bundle including a DualShock 3, an 8GB memory card, an HDMI cable and a digital voucher for a copy of The Lego Movie Video Game. Users will have access to 1,000 games at launch, which will be ... actually, we don't know, sadly. We do know, however, that it will connect to the PlayStation Now service, which enters public beta on July 31. Update: The PS Vita TV may be known by that nom de plume in Japan, but when it arrives stateside, it'll go by the slightly less-complicated-but-longer name "PlayStation TV," which is not to be confused with the PlayStation 3D Display.

Bonjour, everyone! Ubisoft's E3 2014 press conference is happening at 3:00 p.m. PT (6:00 p.m. ET) today, and we expect plenty of tasty tidbits and news from the French developer/publisher. The Los Angeles Staples Convention Center is plastered with a giant Assassin's Creed: Unity poster, but we also expect to hear more about the recently-announced Far Cry 4 too. Ubisoft has featured surprise announcements the past two years as well - Watch Dogs in 2012 and The Division in 2013. Could we have another big surprise this year? If you close your eyes and wish hard enough, Beyond Good & Evil 2 could still happen! Update: Ubisoft's conference may be over, but you can re-live its many announcements in old-fashioned text form. EA announced EA Sports PGA Tour, a new golf game that drops the Tiger Woods label, during their E3 2014 press conference today. While details are scarce, a teaser trailer revealed courses which appear to take place inside of other EA games. One course, for example, looked to be set on a tropical island with a beached Navy ship. Hmmm, that sounds familiar. The game is even rendered in DICE's Frostbite 3 engine, making it one ridiculously pretty game of golf. [Image: Joystiq]

Sony opened its Gamescom 2013 press conference with a subdued presentation of the PlayStation 4's interface by Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida. The exec explored the menus, watched and then joined a game stream, showed off some social functionality and concluded with a tweet to start the show. Hang on, we're not sure we can use the word "subdued" to describe a video with several minutes of Killzone: Shadow Fall gunplay, so let's say "confident."

While we knew Blizzard would have a presence and playable games at Gamescom 2013, held in Cologne, Germany from August 21-25, Polygon is reporting that there will be a press conference held by Blizzard as well. According to Polygon, Blizzard is saving a special announcement for Gamescom at a press conference that will be held on the first day of the convention. Polygon reports that the special invitation they received stated "We're making a special announcement that's sure to capture the attention of the Heavens, Burning Hells and all the shadowed places that lie between." While this may just be more information about the upcoming console ports for Diablo 3, one has to wonder if perhaps this is something more -- perhaps the first mention of a Diablo 3 expansion? It's certainly about time we heard of such things, but of course, we won't really know for certain what the special announcement is all about until Gamescom opens in August. Be sure to head over to Polygon for more details regarding the upcoming press conference. For more information on Blizzard's presence at Gamescom, be sure to check out their official dedicated website for the event. And if you're planning on attending, you still have a little time to sign up for the Blizzard costume contest as well!

  • Obama orders CDC to study violence in video games

While violence in video games and the effect upon its participants wasn't at the crux of today's gun control press conference, President Obama did mention that he is sending the Center for Disease Control after the industry to root out a possible cause of gun violence. One of Obama's 23 executive orders was to "Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence." Among these potential causes are movies, television, and video games. The President defended the order by saying, "We don't benefit from ignorance. We don't benefit from not knowing the science of this epidemic of violence. Congress should fund research into the effects violent video games have on young minds." Vice President Joe Biden previously met with several video game industry leaders as part of the task force to make recommendations on the issue.

It's a fine autumn day in NYC. The air is cool, it's a little breezy and a certain Taiwanese manufacturer has invited us over to check out some cool new gadgets. What exactly does HTC have in store? Well, that's anyone's guess, but suspicions are focused on Windows Phone 8 and a certain leaked handset with the codename Accord. Check back in at the time below to get all the news as it happens live. September 19, 2012 11:00 AM EDT

HTC isn't betraying too much with its event invite, but we've got our suspicions about what the Taiwanese company has up its sleeve. Maybe there will even be a few surprises in store for us, who knows? That's why we had to accept HTC's invite and will be there live, in person to experience the reveal ourselves. Since you can't be there (and we wouldn't want you to be square), join us tomorrow morning at 11am ET and follow along in the liveblog right here -- we'll know you're with us in spirit. Update: How about that: the company just whittled down the possibilities through an official teaser on its Facebook page. All we see is the corner of a Windows Phone, the event date and a promise that it's a day "when beautiful hardware meets stunning software." It doesn't take much sleuthing to deduce that this is HTC's turn at a Windows Phone 8 device launch, and that we may well see devices like the 8X when the New York City gathering gets started.
