Starhawk will enter public beta soon in North America, Europe, Japan, Korea and Latin America, senior produer Harvard Bonin tells Respawn Action. The closed beta ended Jan. 3 and Bonin says the mix of veteran Warhawk and new players caught a lot of unsurprising bugs and balance issues, and that update 1.2 will fix a lot of these. There are plans for "a bunch of" free DLC that "might be surprising," Bonin says, although he adds that he'd be "happy to take your money" for some of the planned content. "We rethought our DLC strategy and we'll reveal more about it as we get closer to release," he says. More information on the Starhawk public beta will come "very soon," Bonin says, and the game will release "when it's damn good and ready."

  • Starhawk launching a semi-public private beta for Warhawk veterans in November

Lightbox Interactive is hosting a private beta for Starhawk in November, but with a twist -- this private beta will be selectively public. Lightbox will invite "a bunch of" dedicated Warhawk players to test out Starhawk this November, chosen by their rank in Warhawk, their community involvement and a few other undisclosed parameters, president Dylan Jobe said. The public private beta will include access to a secure SCEA forum for players to discuss the game and ask questions of the Lightbox team, who will also post their PSN handles and be available for voice chat in-beta. If you're a Warkhawk beast with a clean record, look for an email with an invite soon.

  • MotorStorm Apocalypse closed beta in session

A MotorStorm Apocalypse private beta test is underway, according to an invitation forwarded to us by a UK-based tipster. The beta includes four scheduled event nights over the next two weeks, as detailed in the invitation (in full after the break), which are intended to stress test the servers and online matchmaking leading up to the game's April 12 launch. According to a recent thread on the Official PlayStation Community (EU) forums, the beta appears as "Network Beta Trial Notification - PlayStation 3 beta Trial PSN" to better disguise its identity. Don't take it personally -- it's private, after all. You'll likely get your test run in the (public) demo, which is due on PSN before the full Apocalypse. [Thanks, Feigned-existence]

  • SlingPlayer Mobile for Android goes to private beta?

Android's quickly becoming the elephant in the room for Sling Media, so we're delighted to hear today that the promised Android client of SlingPlayer Mobile is apparently entering a private beta period as we speak -- according to a tipster over at Phandroid, anyhow. It seems that some members that signed up to Sling's beta program have been contacted recently with a link to the download and a request that they not discuss the app or the beta program (so much for that), so if everything goes really, really well, we might see a release before too long. The thought of this thing running on the EVO 4G just blows minds, doesn't it?

  • Fantasy MMORPG Alganon to hold public beta in September

This is our first post about Alganon, so we've gone and done a bit of digging to find out more about it. If the game has flown under your radar too, the results of our research might be of some interest to you: It's a fantasy MMORPG with seven classes of the sort you might expect, but each class will be able to slightly alter their capabilities at will to better fit different group situations. This is known as the "Dual Role System". The "Studies" system will allow for offline progression, to make it easier for casual players to keep up with those that are more active. MyAlganon is a social networking site linked to the game for in-game data, communication with other players, guild hosting and (currently) beta information. It also links to "The Library", which is a repository of game knowledge and a place to view various leaderboards. The game is currently planning to use a subscription business model but this may change later on. These are but a few of the features that Alganon has -- you can see more on their About page (you also might want to have a look at their FAQ). If you've read through the information and think you might want to get involved with the game, you'll be pleased to know that a private beta test is currently underway and a public beta is scheduled to launch in September. To get into the tests, register at MyAlganon and then make a post in this thread.

  • Twitterrific 2.0: Glenn Wolsey gets first look

It's an understatement to say that we TUAW bloggers have caught the Twitter bug, as many of us have personal accounts in addition to our main TUAW twitterings. With our latest web 2.0 obsession live and kicking, Glenn Wolsey just made our day by posting some sneak peek screenshots of a Twitterrific 2.0 beta (what, Iconfactory: no TUAW private beta love?). There are apparently over 25 new features and changes in this major upgrade to The Iconfactory's slick and sexy client, and I can personally say I'm the most excited for the option to have names and tweets both in-line (pictured). I'm not quite so hip on the decision to leave the username on its own line though; why not simply bump the tweet up next to their name like most IM clients? This would save a lot of space by compacting updates and leaving room for more tweets.Personal UI design requests aside, head over to Glenn's post for details and screenshots on some other big changes, including an expandable text entry area and the ability to chose between a few update sounds. If you're just as excited as we are to get your hands on Twitterrific 2.0, stay tuned here or follow their Twitter account for the news of when it drops.
