Alma's back, and she wants to mess you up. We've been waiting long enough, and, finally, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin has dropped. Before you take Alma on, maybe you should brush up on your knowledge of the game by checking out some of these reviews below. Just a thought ... IGN AU (86/100): "We just wish Monolith had produced a slightly more progressive or challenging backdrop for the horror that is this game's mojo. It's absolutely worth playing, but that's the difference between a game that scores 9+ and a game that scores 8.6." Game Informer (84/100): "While the multiplayer is weak and the mood won't make people forget Dead Space any time soon, the solid action core makes it worth a play." PlayStation: The Official Magazine (80/100): "F.E.A.R. 2 emerges as an effective, entertaining FPS with a chiller story element, rather than a real survival horror shooter...Play with the lights dimmed, and don't be surprised if you end up squealing (on the inside) like a little girl." [Mar 2009, p.67] Eurogamer (50/100): "If you've never played a first-person shooter before, you'll probably be in love - this is as archetypal a corridor-shooter as has ever been made, and there's a reason why it works. But for anyone who's been running down corridors with shotguns for most of their adult life, this is so uninspired that you worry for the spark of Monolith's soul. You guys made "No One Lives Forever," remember? You're smart. You're better than this." With F.E.A.R. 2 arriving next week, we'll finally be able to turn down the lights, draw the curtains, and scare ourselves silly. Warner Bros. and Monolith have dished out a new trailer (it's rated "M," so you'll find it after the break) featuring plenty of gameplay, a fairly in-depth look at the game's story and several instances of that creepy Alma girl popping up at random times. Give it a watch and if you feel so inclined, hit up the BD link below and download the thing in HD. Those seeking out a more interactive vignette should download the recently released demo. If you're a bit fuzzy on the details surrounding the F.E.A.R. 2 storyline and are even more clueless regarding the original F.E.A.R. plot, then we have just the video solution for you. After the break, you can view the latest Project Origin trailer that recaps the tale of Alma, what the First Encounter Assault Recon team is all about and why everything has gone horribly, horribly wrong. Maybe it's just us, but we really feel for Alma and the situation she was put in. If we were in charge, we'd get her get cleaned up, make sure dinner was eaten by 7PM and have her in bed by 9PM. Kids need structure.

  • F.E.A.R. 2 'unbanned' in Australia

Without requiring any edits, the previously "banned" F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin has received an MA15+ rating in Australia. The title was refused classification by the OFLC last month, but the decision has now been reversed, following an appeal by publisher Warner Bros.Upon review, the classification board deemed that the violence in the game could be "accommodated within the MA15+ classification." Of course, none of these semi-regular banning stories would be happening if games in Australia had the option of an R18+ rating.

Late last night, the Gamerscore Blog posted a list of games Microsoft plans on showcasing at the Penny Arcade Expo and if you're a PAX attendee who is huge Gears (slash) Halo fanboy, you should get excited.According to Microsoft's PAX schedule of on stage demos, they plan on demoing both Gears of War 2 and Halo Wars as well as Project Origin during all three days of the expo. Meaning that those who plan on attending PAX and dreamt about getting a chance to see either Gears 2 or Halo Wars will have their dreams fulfilled. Wish granted! Also, according to the schedule, there will a few "Gears of War 2 Signing Sessions" planned which we can all but guarantee a certain blogger will be first in line ... every day.

The Xbox Live Marketplace videos keep rolling in. This new trailer for Project Origin showcases a few things, namely: chills, thrills and kills. Alma is back in the non-FEAR named sequel to FEAR. Immediately the game looks amazing, it looks like ol' Monolith found the smoothing button on their graphics engine! Seriously though, prior to watching this trailer we just shrugged at a chance to play Project Origin -- but now that it looks this good we will need to check it out!

There's a new Project Origin combat trailer making the rounds today, giving old-school F.E.A.R. fanboys a warm fuzzy knowing that the sequel is staying true to its roots. The trailer (embedded above) is comprised of "pre-beta footage" that is gushy, gory, glum and any other "g" adjectives you can think of (except glamorous). It looks graphically nice, the fear factor is there and it seems ... well, fun. We say, go Lith go![Thanks, Chris]

Click for high-resolution image. That might be an overstatement, but at least for one guy (the unlucky soul pictured above) it's truth. We've been bashing Project Origin on at least two occasions in the past, but this time we're not going to. The above picture is impressive. If such graphical detail of fluids flying in the air can be pulled off in the actual game engine, then we're going to have to change the tune we're singing. Too gory perhaps? Just think of it this way -- that's not actual blood, it's Kool-Aid. Besides, this is the only screenshot in this new batch that's like this. The others are well-tamed. Have a look at those pics in the gallery below, and then check out a video clip showing off more in-game environments after the break. The environments still look so-so, but hey, can't win them all. %Gallery-21936%

Earlier today Monolith dropped five bloody screens of their latest shooter F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin. Each of the five screens includes the proper amount of killing and pools of blood that you would expect from a Monolith title. Also included are a peek at brand new environments and the Giant Mechanized Walker from the player perspective. Not pictured is Alma (above) who really should go see an optometrist about that red-eye problem.%Gallery-21920%

  • Two more Project Origin vids

Yet again, we're unmoved by these Project Origin videos. The game just doesn't seem interesting. What's making us feel this way, we're not sure. We can't seem to pinpoint exactly where this feeling of apathy is coming from. Maybe it's the imagery, maybe it's the music; maybe it's the lack of voice-overs in the clips. Possibly. One thing is certain, however -- these trailers are trying to convey that Project Origin is a suspense-filled ride, and to some degree, scary. While that's what these trailers are trying to tell us, we're getting a whole different message entirely: mediocre.

The attractive and sweet smelling members of Gamerscore Blog will soon be visiting Monolith, developers of the upcoming F.E.A.R. sequel Project Origin. They won't just be sitting down for tea and crumpets either. No, they will be asking Monolith questions. That's where you come in, see, as they are now accepting questions for their jaunt to Monolith's headquarters. All you have to do is head over to Gamerscore Blog and submit a question. There are no guarantees that any particular question will actually be asked, but we imagine the good ones will rise to the top. Our top question: why didn't they pick our submission in the sequel naming contest? In related news, our friends at Gamertag Radio recently sat down to talk with Monolith themselves. Head over to GTR for the interview.

There's not much we can say about this new trailer for Project Origin. We're neither impressed nor dissatisfied; we're in a state of indifference and apathy. Perhaps that's really quite a horrible thing -- even worse than having extremely negative comments. At least with negativity, there's some sort of invested emotion into what is being made. What does this mean for this F.E.A.R. sequel? Things are looking rather banal; there's nothing new or exciting. Could be just us, though. Is this how you feel when you watch this trailer?

  • Video: First 17 minutes of Project Origin

Downloadable over at IGN and embedded after the break is a horror-rich and somewhat spoiler'ish video of the first 17 minutes of Monolith's sequel to F.E.A.R. called Project Origin. And after watching just a snippet of the gameplay video we noticed two themes in the game; there's lots of hospital gear laying around and lots of blood on the walls. So, if you've got a thing for blood streaked along hallways or doctor's offices in general, then give the new F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin gameplay video a watch. That is unless you don't want your game spoiled and soiled, because then we'd advise staying far, far away from this post and forgetting we ever mentioned that the first 17 minutes of Project Origin is posted after the break. Because, you know, it is posted after the break ... just saying.[Via Game Stooge]

  • Take a gander at the first Project Origin trailer

If you liked the first, you'll like the second. That's about all we can figure from this first trailer for the sequel to F.E.A.R., given the extra title of Project Origin. To some, the trailer will show more of the same -- slow motion, creepy girl, explosions, blood. To others, it will show them something exciting, something vaguely familiar, but something they've wanted more of since playing the original. No matter which side of the line you end up standing on, the trailer is worth a look and the game probably worth a test run. We'll keep you posted as the game progresses.
