The European PSN is still playing catch-up after its lengthy hiatus, bringing us an eclectic mix of new content this week. Ninjabee's Keflings-esque world builder Akimi Village highlights the list, followed by the Sonic the Hedgehog 20th Anniversary Bundle, a demo for Dungeon Siege 3 and the digital arrivals of American McGee's Alice and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. See? Absolutely zero connecting factors between those things, except ... um, they all have vowels in their names. Okay, now it's just too quiet. The PSN update is lean this week. There's the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow "Resurrection" DLC, a nice discount on Bionic Commando: Rearmed 1 & 2, a Virtua Tennis 4 Move demo and some other random goodies. Overall, though, not a major update. However, despite the lack of content in this week's update, we definitely hope you've picked up your free games and free PlayStation Plus membership from the "Welcome Back" program by now. July 3 is the deadline, so don't dilly-dally if you haven't grabbed them. Find all of this week's DLC past the break. You hear that? Listen ... it's almost calm. Almost normal. The regularly scheduled PSN update returns this week, following an extended hiatus that manifested itself in a content deluge slightly before E3 and throughout the week of gaming madness. There are plenty of things to check out in this update, but it's probably worth repeating that you should grab those free games. Free games? Yeah, the free games and free PlayStation Plus membership you get as part of the "Welcome Back" program. You've only got until July 3, so get it out of the way now. Casually stroll past the break for all this week's DLC. • Multiple PlayStation Store updates coming each week until caught up

If you've been keeping score, we've missed out on three regularly scheduled PlayStation Store updates since the service went down last month, preventing users from downloading items like the already long-delayed PSN RTS Under Siege. There's a lot of content to get caught up on -- and to get us there, the storefront will receive updates "multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored," according to the latest PlayStation Blog FAQ. "We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration," adds the FAQ, "as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs." If you're the type who likes to spend exorbitant sums of money on each batch of PSN additions, you might want to steel yourself for the oncoming deluge.

So, there's not a ton of new stuff for the PS3 this week -- other than the PSN debut of Fancy Pants Adventures, of course -- though PSP owners are in for a sweet pair of treats: Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection and Patapon 3. Of course, fans of not paying a lot of money for things (which, really, should be just about everyone) can still capitalize on all the "Spring Offers" for both platforms. There are only a few downloadable goodies mixed in with this week's European PSN update, including Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes and Rush N' Attack -- but plenty of special offers. Whether you're rocking a PS3 or PSP (or both!), Sony's discounted dozens of titles as part of its Spring Offers promotion. Check them all out below! • PSN Tuesday: Clash of Heroes HD, Dungeon Hunter: Alliance

It's a fantasy land in this week's PSN update. First up is Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes from Capy (Critter Crunch, Sword & Sworcery), the HD port of its excellent puzzle RPG for DS. Instead of abstract jewels creating the gameplay, the game has actual units on the field that can be matched to create better units. Definitely try out the demo. Also available is Dungeon Hunter: Alliance, which being from Gameloft automatically means it's donning +2 hat of generic, but the title does feature four-player co-op dungeon crawling. Quest on past the break for all this week's DLC. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

There's no time to waste with silly banter, dear reader -- this week's European PSN update is a doozy. There's the downloadable launch of MAG, a beta for SOCOM: Special Forces, a demo for Motorstorm Apocalypse, and the arrival of Red Faction Battlegrounds, just for starters. To top it all off, there's another round of discounts and permanent price cuts on PSP classics, and a huge batch of PlayStation Plus bonuses. You'd better start reading the full list after the jump. • PSN Tuesday: Red Faction: Battlegrounds, StarDrone, Angry Birds sale

This week's PSN update adds two very different type of arcade titles: Red Faction: Battlegrounds is the vehicular combat game that somehow ties into the Red Faction universe. Don't think about it too hard, just drive around for $10 and blow stuff up. Meanwhile the Move-supported StarDrone is a hybrid pinball / brick-breaking game. Check out the videos for a better idea. It should also be noted that the excellent Lara Croft: Guardian Of Light is 50 percent off for $7.49. Also, the phenomenon that is Angry Birds has come in step on PSN with its iOS cousins, as the game is available now for $1.99 instead of $3.99 Greedy green pigs can head on past the break and steal a glance at all of this week's DLC. PSP owners rarely get the sweeter end of the deal in these European PSN updates, but this week they've pulled in a pretty sweet haul. Sure, the PS3 still gets Chime Super Deluxe, Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, Swarm and Moon Diver -- but PSP owners get The 3rd Birthday, Aedis Eclipse: Generation of Chaos and all the deals. • PSN Tuesday: Moon Diver, Free Realms

    03.29.2011

Sony Online Entertainment's Free Realms MMO finally arrives on PS3 today. We really don't have much to say about the free-to-play hit, but it gives us a fantastic excuse to post a picture of purple horse with wings. Another big arrival today is Moon Diver, which at one point was called Necromachina, but before that was known as ... Moon Diver. Anyway, original point: it's like a four-player Strider. Considering it was designed by Kouichi Yotsui, one of the leads on Strider, that makes the lift kosher in our book. There's a lot more to be found in the full update details after the break. Don your wrestling masks, take up your Spread Guns and throw that cape o'er your shoulders, it's -- no, wait. You look ridiculous. Maybe you should do those things one at a time, by picking up Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, Hard Corps: Uprising and DC Universe Online, the latest additions to the European PSN. There, that's much better. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

PSN delivers another week of interesting downloadable titles with PS3's Swarm and PSP's Hoard. If you haven't checked out the demo from last week's PSN exclusive Slam Bolt Scrappers, that's definitely worth taking for a test drive. For something with a bit more machismo, the demo for WWE All Stars is available, along with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow's "Reverie" DLC. Konami kinda just snuck that release in this week for the States, but it should be available in Europe on March 30. There's plenty more to peruse in the full update after the break. This week's European PSN update is headed up by Fire Hose Games' Slam Bolt Scrappers, a game compelling enough to deserve a disclaimer: You are going to have no idea what you're doing during your first game. Don't be embarrassed -- there are a lot of moving parts here. If you need a confidence booster, feel free to return to the warm, familiar arms of the newest PSOne Classic, Street Fighter Alpha 2.
