Short and sweet update today. Ultimate Ghosts And Goblins arrives as promised but, if you'd rather not spend any money, there's a Buzz! Master Quiz demo for you to check out too. Plus, the latest episode of Pulse will show you what's what on the world of the PlayStation Network. Even though this particular episode doesn't even mention the PSP. Oh well. Here's the release list: Ultimate Ghosts And Goblins ($19.99) Buzz! Master Quiz demo (free) Pulse January 15th episode (free)

Yeah, that's it we're afraid. Just one measly little theme. We're sure it's a lovely theme, but while Americans will be nomming on Ultimate Ghosts And Goblins today (plus who knows what else?) Europeans will have little more to do than redecorate their XMB. Still, they've been enjoying Loco Roco 2 for about a month now, so maybe this is their comeuppance? Just to reiterate, today's European PSP store update contains: a Super Stardust Portable theme. Don't be too disheartened though, at least it's free.

Capcom has announced, via the PlayStation Blog, that Ultimate Ghosts And Goblins will be released on the American PSP store this Thursday. Ultimate Ghosts And Goblins is the latest in the Ghosts And Goblins series that began on the NES and now features 3D graphics on top of the traditional 2D sidescrolling gameplay. You'll be able to grab it for $19.99 once it releases during this week's PSN update. We'll be sure to let you know what else is released alongside it, as usual. If you're intrigued and haven't seen the game in action before check out the video above.[Thanks LAZoftheTamarinds]

What's this? A European PSP Store update? Not only that, but a good one. You've got some nice content to choose from here. Puzzle Quest and Crash Bandicoot 3 are our top picks, but you might also be interested in the various wallpapers and videos. Make sure you send SCEE a positive message by purchasing something, that way they might update the EU Store more than once a month. Here's the full release list: Puzzle Quest full game (£15.99/€19.99) Practical IQ full game (£15.99/€19.99) Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped (£3.99/€4.99) PC Collection trailer Super Stardust Portable trailer 36x PSP-3000 wallpapers

  • Firmware 5.01 fixes your big memory stick woes

How's that direct-connect PSP Store working out for you? What's that? You have problems downloading stuff to your 8GB or 16GB memory stick? It says there's insufficient space? But that's preposterous, there's plenty of room. That's a bug, right there. Thankfully, it hasn't gone unnoticed at Sony HQ as they're issuing a new firmware revision to fix the problem. From the sounds of it that's pretty much all version 5.01 will do when it releases "soon." Everyone thank Uncle Sony for fixing the problem so speedily. We'll be sure to notify you once the firmware update is available.

The new direct-connect PSP Store is on its way, but how does it look? Unsurprisingly it looks very similar to the PS3 Store. Coupled with the ability to sign on to the PlayStation Network from your PSP gives the two systems a much greater sense of integration. All we need now is a PSP friends list (and trophies wouldn't go amiss, either.)If you want to see exactly what the Store looks like, check out the video above. You'll be able to get your hands on it when the firmware goes live in the near future. Hopefully a more accessible PSP Store means we'll be getting better content updates from now on.

  • TGS 08: PSP Wi-Fi Store opening Oct. 15 in Japan; all future first-party titles to be downloadable

Sony has announced that all future first-party PSP games will be available through download in Japan, beginning later this year via the Wi-Fi Store. The store is scheduled to open in Japan on October 15th with the firmware v5.00 update. Games to be sold by direct download include Secret Agent Clank (11/20), Patapon 2 (11/27), and LocoRoco 2 (12/4) (these titles will also be available on UMD).There is currently no date for the release of the store in North America or Europe. We're also wondering how downloadable games' pricing will compare to standard UMD retail prices (considering that direct downloads save on packaging, shipping and a slew of other costs). We'll update as soon as we hear anything.

  • Rumor: PSP firmware 5.00 to add Wi-Fi Store, screen captures

Features to be included in the next major PSP update, v5.00, have allegedly been detailed (translation) by an unnamed French developer working with the beta version of the firmware. 5.00 will supposedly include direct access to the PlayStation Store, which was promised last month for the fall (in Japan, at least), along with an improved RSS reader with text file support and a screen capture mode that supports in-game screenshots. The source could not confirm a date for the firmware's public release, but speculates that it could coincide with the launch of PSP Brite, the new hardware revision, on October 14th or in the weeks following. PSP's current firmware version is 4.05 -- if true, it would be a big leap to 5.00, by Sony standards.[Via PSP World; thanks, Skylar]

  • PSP Wi-Fi Store to launch in fall, PS3 Infrastructure mode announced

Someone at Sony is trying way too hard. Can you believe an ambitious young stooge has dared to decipher the mysterious toggle on the left side of the PSP? And wouldn't you know, the thing's a Wi-Fi switch! Now all hell's broken loose at Sony HQ, as the discovery has ushered in a new era of brite possibilities for the handheld. Imagine: shopping for themes and wallpaper directly from your PSP. It's true folks, PlayStation Store is coming to PSP sans hand holding (so long PS3, so long PC!) this fall in Japan -- probably worldwide, PSP Fanboy speculates. And there's a free game in it for anyone smart enough to flick the "on" switch. But that's not all. Sony has announced (and pictured) a new Infrastructure mode, enabled by connecting PSP to Playstation 3 ... wirelessly. In essence, ad-hoc multiplayer modes will become online-enabled through a PS3 connection for some games (like Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G). In addition, text and voice chatting capabilities can be added through the new online mode. Add to this the rumor of PS3 gamepad support for PSP Brite, and Sony might as well slap a UMD drive on the next PS3 SKU.[Via PSP Fanboy]

var digg_url = 'http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/gdc08-wi-fi-psp-store-promised/'; Chris Eden from Sony Computer Entertainment made mention of PLAYSTATION Store on PSP in his Game Developers Conference session. Currently, players must use a PC in order to download content and transfer it to the PSP. Going forward, PSP fans will be able to download games directly to their systems from within the PSP itself. "Access native PLAYSTATION Store on PSP via wireless hotspot," the slide notes. "Purchase and download content direct to PSP (no USB cable)." Launch is currently "TBA." More details are promised for the future. Let's hope we don't have to wait too long.

  • PSP 'Beats' on PC PlayStation Store today

PlayStation Store's PC portal will be updated today with an original PSP game, Beats. The $4.99 download serves as a rhythm playground for any tunes you've got stored on the Memory Stick, not unlike Harmonix's Phase for iPod.Developed by SCEE's London Studio, Beats began as a UMD project to be loaded with licensed music and videos by British pop band Sugababes. Thankfully, the London team got the memo in time. As soon as the developers learned that the PSP Store (albeit a PC-to-PSP store) was finally transitioning from dream to reality, they dropped the Sugababes, rear-loading disc and bloated price tag, and opted for an inexpensive, downloadable game powered by its users. Imagine that, Sony did something right.(Note: Beats is not currently available through PS3's PS Store.)[Via PSP Fanboy]

  • Sony lays out its plans for the PSP Store

GI.biz has managed to wangle a host of new details about the PSP store. We know it's currently available in Japan and has been since TGS, but what about the English speaking world? And what can we expect to find on it? The US version of the store will be unveiled this winter on PC and at some point in 2008 on the PSP. The PC version allows you to download straight to your PSP via a USB cable, while the PSP version will be accessible directly on the handheld via any wireless access point. Sony has also revealed that seven download-only games are in production for the service during 2008. These include three action games, two rhythm games, a racing title and a shooting game. All of these games are being developed in-house by Sony, though there are talks of getting third-party publishers involved. Other content which will be available throughout 2008 will include video content such as trailers and behind the scenes clips, downloadable content for UMD games, demos and PS1 games. Thirteen PS1 games will be made available throughout 2008, all of which are currently available on the PS3 Store. Presumably these games will be from the Japanese PlayStation Store as the European and American stores have considerably less than 13 available currently. There is currently no word on a European release date but chances are the American store will be accessible from European territories (and it'll probably be updated more often, too), so no worries there.

  • TGS07: PSP online store open now for Japanese only

The announcement of a PSP store - accessible via the PC - was open for business today, but only for Japanese customers. PSP-Vault.com have a great article up about with a walkthrough of the store. From the looks of it there's a lot of stuff on there already and we're looking forward to getting our grubby mitts on the content soon. Unfortunately you can only access the store if your browser and/or operating system is running with Japanese language settings. Also, the download plugin doesn't work with Macs. So until the store is available for Europe and America (and they sort out that ridiculous Mac problem), we'll have to keep downloading our content manually. It's a shame, really. Our new Crisis Core PSP Slim is hungry for downloadable content.

Literally dozens of loyal Sony Connect users were sent into mourning yesterday by a PaidContent.org story announcing the proprietary music and video download service will be shut down in the coming months. The staff of 80 behind the online store will be transferred over to the PlayStation side of the company, a rather convenient move considering Sony is preparing to launch a new PSP Store later this year.We know what you're thinking, but don't worry, the eBook division of the service will stay up for those of you who prefer reading books on an LCD screen.[Via PSPFanboy]

  • PSP Store is 'long overdue,' Sony admits

    05.17.2007

SCEA president Jack Tretton has reiterated Sony's intent to launch some semblance of a 'PSP Store,' but his statements provide little assurance that the project is a priority. "I think the advent of a long awaited and quite frankly long overdue ability to deliver a downloadable service for the PSP will help us out a great deal," Tretton said during an appearance at Sony Gamers' Day. "Hopefully we'll have it out there by the fall."Tretton gave no further insight into the proposed venture, leaving us to wonder if he was merely referring to SOE's Station Launcher, a forthcoming service that will offer downloads of PSP-formatted movies directly to the handheld device (via PC). Of course, there would be obvious benefits to launching a portable counterpart of PS3's PlayStation Store, complete with PS1 games, demos, and trailers -- and, dare we suggest, full e-Distribution titles. All with just the flick of a WLAN switch. If only...[Via PSP Fanboy]
