Is Bubble Bobble still Bubble Bobble without its adorable dinosaur mascots? Square Enix is having Bubblun and Bobblun sit out for the latest Puzzle Bobble (Bust a Move) in favor of someone named "Mickey Mouse." Puzzle Bobble: Disney Edition for Japanese mobile phones combines the familiar bubble-shooting, color-matching game with cutesy Disney characters. Mickey is joined by Minnie, Donald, Winnie the Pooh, Stitch, and Marie from the Aristocats. We must admit that the renditions of those characters are pretty cute. The more we look at that Pooh bear, the less we mind the exclusion of the dinosaur mascots. Of course, whether or not we like the look is totally meaningless, since this is only being released on Japanese cell phones.

Following Nintendo's announcement of Japanese launch details for the 3DS, Square Enix announced a new version of its venerable Bust a Move/Puzzle Bobble franchise, called Tobidasu! Puzzle Bobble 3D ("Jump Out! Puzzle Bobble 3D") In addition to the normal match-three gameplay, the 3DS puzzler includes "gimmick bubbles," which will involve the third dimension in some way. How that will work has yet to be announced, but we suspect the "gimmick" label will prove quite accurate. Puzzle Bobble 3D will jump into Japanese retail this spring.

We knew that an Xbox Live Arcade Bust-a-Move/Puzzle Bobble game was coming -- both from an ESRB rating and the fact that the WiiWare version is already out -- but today, Taito officially revealed Puzzle Bobble Live for XBLA. It looks identical to the Wii's Bust-a-Move Plus, with the exception of online play, and the use of Avatars in Endless Mode. The game will have the same extra DLC; three stage packs containing stages from previous Puzzle Bobble games.Puzzle Bobble Live will be out September 30 in Japan for 800. Taito had no comment about North American or European releases.%Gallery-71701%

Virtually Overlooked has taken over Wii Fanboy! All this week, members of the staff will be outlining their personal picks for future Virtual Console releases. It was 1994 when Ahmad poignantly rapped, "Back in the days, when I was young; I'm not a kid anymore, but some days, I sit and wish I was a kid again." If scientists could only harness the wasted enthusiasm of our nostalgia, our cities would never want for electricity.Remember the peanut butter and jelly sandwich lunches? Or the summer swims with the sun on your back, tanning your skin golden brown? The days you could set your heart on a girl you hardly knew at any moment, whether it be a winsome classmate or the clear-skinned brunette from Noxzema's hokey commercials? The nights when TGIF meant new episodes of Full House and Family Matters, and not after-work casual dining? Each weekly batch of Virtual Console releases is a reminder of my idle youth. Some games I recognize only from magazine previews I read with eager eyes over a decade ago, and others are familiar friends -- titles I've been meaning to catch up with to recount years past. The whole gang hasn't quite made it to the reunion yet, but that doesn't mean we can't trade old stories about them in the meantime. "Sometimes, I still sit and reminisce ..."

Wii players in Japan will have a shot at another minigame collection this April, when Taito releases their Furufuru Park. It will feature scaled-down dating games, adventure games, 3D fighting, and even a mech game set in the year 20XX. If the idea of yet another disc of minigames doesn't grab you, then the cast of characters, pulled from Taito classics like Bubble Bobble, Arkanoid, Sonic Blast Man, and even the recent DS release Mawasunda!! might. And if the mention of Sonic Blast Man actually piqued your interest, then we are very concerned about the apparent theft of our identities. Check after the post break to see some mini-screens of the minigames in mini-action, and check the homepage to see... the box art and not much else. [Via GAME Watch]
