The Chase: Felix Meets Felicity sounds like our kind of game: cute storyline, fourth wall-busting gags, great platforming mechanics, and fairly unique visuals. But lordy, what is up with that cover? We're pretty shameless people (seriously, you should see what we don't wear while blogging), but even we would probably avoid eye contact with the sales clerk while buying this at our local emporium. It seems odd that a game with so much to offer older players could sport such kid-oriented boxart; if we knew nothing about The Chase, we wouldn't even notice this in a store.Today's subject, then: to what degree does boxart influence your buying decisions? Ever purchased a game solely because it has an awesome box? Or have you been torn over whether to get a game, only to be put off by a crummy cover?%Gallery-36566%

Razorback Developments' The Chase: Felix Meets Felicity, a platform game about two couriers running across town in order to meet for a first date, is an exceptionally weird game. Even for the DS. It has a weird, cute, nonviolent storyline, quirky humor, a unique look, and a gameplay style that combines familiar elements to create something that feels surprisingly fresh. At least, that's the impression I've come away with after a few levels!Hand-drawn cutscenes tell the story of whichever character you choose: hapless Felix or lonely Felicity. The overall story is the same for both: a chance meeting on the way to delivering packages sets the game in motion, as they agree to meet at the pier for ice cream the next day. When the day arrives, both have to rush across town (on foot, because they're broke) to meet on time and avoid a giant rainstorm. %Gallery-36566%

Earlier this week, Atari unveiled their supremely bizarre The Chase: Felix Meets Felicity, a very cute romantic comedy platform action game. Now we can see it in motion, thanks to the debut trailer, which shows a fairly frenetic combination of traditional run-and-jump gameplay (which recalls early Sonic more than anything else), Kirby: Canvas Curse-style path scribbling, and even stretchy grappling hooks like the one found in Umihara Kawase. All of this maneuvering is performed by two characters rushing to meet on time and avoid a giant storm that appears as a constantly-pushing wall of water. A grappling-based platformer with an off-kilter premise? Atari is doing their best to court the elusive "people writing this post" segment of the market.%Gallery-36566%[Via press release]

Chibi characters and an excessive use of pink may put you off the idea of liking The Chase: Felix Meets Felicity, but we'd advise against making snap judgements in this case. Despite first appearances, this is a platformer that has more in common with Yoshi Touch & Go, Kirby: Canvas Curse and Mister Slime, rather than being a vanilla run-and-jump formula. The plot, which is also peculiar for a game of this ilk, introduces Felix and Felicity, who are both rushing across town to meet up for a romantic rendezvous. This is where a little player assistance is required. Specifically, you'll have to grab your stylus and draw the paths that Felix and Felicity will take on the touchscreen, all in the name of lurve. A dwindling clock and the threat of bad weather means you'll have to be quick, but NPCs with quirky advice on love will assist you on your journey.Currently, The Chase is scheduled for a February release -- a Valentine's Day release would seem appropriate!%Gallery-36566%[Via press release]
