A listing for a red-colored Xbox 360 Elite has made itself known, thanks to a Toys "R" Us employee who sent Kotaku a snapshot of the SKU, which allegedly appears in the store's inventory database. The red Elite's "item inquiry detail" makes note of the console's $399 price tag (which is the current cost of a black Elite), but no other product details are mentioned. It's speculated that this red'licious console could be the mysterious Resident Evil 5 bundle. If true, consumers will have another Xbox 360 color option to express their individuality. It would also make creating a Hello Kitty mod much easier.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/Resident_Evil_5_producer_wants_more_Evil_on_Wi'; Speaking to Eurogamer, Resident Evil 5 producer Masachika Kawata intimated that he'd like to see more of Resident Evil on Nintendo's waggling financial giant. Said Kawata, "Personally, I would like to create something on Wii in the Resident Evil family." He further stated that the team doesn't know what it would be, as it's been hard at work on Resident Evil 5, but asked gamers to "watch this space." Thus far, staring at our computer monitor has resulted in nothing but eyestrain.Kawata also spoke briefly to concerns raised about Resident Evil 5's control scheme, saying that the team "reflected" on the control scheme for some time. While Kawata expects some may dislike the controls, he -- and the team -- believe it "does not reflect negatively on the game as a whole," but is instead "part of a forward-looking process." Kawata hopes that even those who dislike the controls will enjoy the overall product.

Our passion for games is sometimes so great that it extends outside of the virtual worlds we adore. Just check our shelves and you'll find an assortment of Metal Gear Solid action figures, a life-sized replica Lancer, and various other items that loudly proclaim where our interests lie. Listen up, Resident Evil 5 fans who can't wait to buy any and all things branded with Capcom's anticipated zombie safari! Mad Catz is planning to unleash a whole line of tie-in products. If all of the junk that comes in the collector's edition of RE5 isn't enough to satisfy, you can scoop up a bluetooth headset ($50), or a loud messenger bag (also $50). It's okay to love games, folks, but unless the message you're trying to convey is punch me in the face and take my wallet on this subway car, we suggest you leave the messenger bag at home. Look for it on shelves on March 17.

Using a laser sight we point you in the direction of GameTrailers' educational retrospective series that pulls back the eyelids of the Resident Evil franchise. Part one of the (alleged) six part zombie-retrospective, "Horror Stories", takes a stroll through Resident Evil's history, how it pioneered the survival horror genre and how laughably bad the voice acting was.Putting aside all discussion regarding the direction Resident Evil 5 has taken with its control mechanics, the video will evoke deep rooted nostalgic feelings and renew your phobia of human-sized arachnids. It did for us. Once comfortable -- and with an ample supply of herbs by your side -- find the 17+ minute video after the break.

The Resident Evil 5 "racism issue" has reanimated itself in the latest hands-on preview by Eurogamer. The site believes the "debate is only going to get louder" once the game is released. It notes that Chris Redfield's partner, Sheva, fits neatly into the "approved Hollywood model" of a light-skinned black heroine, and describes sensitive images later on in the game as "outrageous and outdated."The RE5 hands-on concludes that all the mainstream media needs is an image of Chris Redfield stomping on the face of a black woman, "splattering her skull," to have a field day. Capcom and Microsoft just announced that the Resident Evil 5 demo has eclipsed 1.8 million downloads since its availability on the Xbox Live Marketplace last week. Talk about being infectious. The demo (which is now available on the PlayStation Network) beat out Force Unleashed's record for the most downloads in a one-week period, accumulating 1.3 million downloads during its first three days of availability. We've also learned that the demo's Japanese kid brother, the Biohazard 5 demo, was accessed by 53% of all Japanese Xbox Live gold accounts. Which, in all reality, could be a few dozen gamers.

Keeping to the promise of being exactly one week late, Capcom's playable demo for Resident Evil 5 has finally hit the PlayStation Store worldwide. While touted as being identical to the one we've seen hit Xbox Live, it's slightly bothersome to note that the PS3 version eats up double the amount of hard drive space. That's 942MB to be exact. Regardless of footprint disparities, the demo finally allows North American and European PS3 owners to try out RE5's online and offline split-screen co-op gameplay. However, those who disdain pairing up with another person can still get their shrill kicks playing solo.

From inside his fortified office, where he can hear the shambling of the unemployed just outside, Major Nelson sends word that the Resident Evil 5 demo is up on Xbox Live Marketplace. The 472MB demo is the same one released in Japan early last month, featuring two levels that can be played solo or co-op, either online or couch-style with split screen. The demo should be available sometime next week for the PSN. Eurogamer confirmed a Feb. 2 (Monday) release across the pond, but we've yet to hear back from Capcom about an official date in North America. At the latest, it'll arrive in time for the standard Thursday PSN update.Update: Capcom confirmed to us that the PS3 version is coming February 2 to North America.

The color red is a magical hue. One that is traditionally symbolic of sin, guilt, passion and even fierce anger. That's exactly why we (and we're sure dozens of others) would be interested in purchasing a red colored Xbox 360 console if one were available. Maybe that's why Capcom and Microsoft are rumored to be releasing a special red Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 bundle. This rumored red console bundle is said to also come packed with a red controller, copy of Resident Evil 5, an exclusive RE5 premium theme and a redemption code for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD. That'd be a pretty nifty bundle if MS were to release it ... but it's just a rumor for now.

Capcom has confirmed to Eurogamer that a demo for Resident Evil 5 is shuffling its way onto the PSN February 2. Astute observers will notice that the release date is a Monday, which is not the PSN's typical Thursday update day. We've contacted both Sony America and Capcom for confirmation of the date for North America. The Xbox 360 RE5 demo will be available starting January 26. Both consoles will receive the same demo, which is the same as the Japanese demo and features two levels that can be played solo, split-screen or online co-op. Getting in plenty of practice time won't be an issue, as the retail version isn't expected until March 13.

If your Resident Evil 5 obsession is so great that you're comfortable with the idea of spending $90 to bring RE5 zombie killing into your home, then we have the perfect spending solution. Capcom just revealed what'll be included in the Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition (pictured above) and also confirming that it'll be priced at $89.99. Fret not though, because the CE looks to be worth some (if not all) of the additional cost. Not only will gamers get the actual RE5 game disc, but will also be treated to Steel Book packaging, game manual, a Chris Redfield figure, Tricell messenger bag, BSAA patch, and a swank Kijuju African necklace. It's quite the nice CE.%Gallery-42480%

  • RE5 demo to include new 'action controls' option [update]

    01.14.2009

Update: While the new demo will include the option to use the new action controls, were were mistaken in regards to what the action controls let you do. They WILL NOT let you move and shoot at the same time, but will allow aiming with the right thumbstick. Furthermore, the action controls were present in the Japanese demo that was released last month. X3F apologizes for the error. While browsing through Capcom's wordy Resident Evil 5 demo press release, we came across an interesting nugget of information that'll even pique the interest of those who already ninja-played the Japanese RE5 demo. Specifically, with the upcoming demo, Capcom will let gamers "choose between the classic 'Resident Evil'-style controls or switch to the newer 'Action' controls inspired by games like 'Gears of War 2' and 'Halo 3.'" Yes sir, the new action controls will be accessible in the new demo and will actually let players move AND shoot at the same time. Epic win! and let you aim with the right stick.

click to enlarge The Resident Evil 5 demo is coming to the US -- this time officially -- and is "premiering exclusively" the week of January 26th on Xbox 360, so sayeth the Major. The demo features two levels that can be played either solo (with AI support) or with a buddy via split-screen or Xbox Live -- yeah, it's the same as the Japanese demo, unsurprisingly. No word on the release of a PlayStation 3 demo, but we've poked our Capcom contact and will let you know what we find out. In Japan, the PS3 demo is only available on a bonus disc. Update: A Capcom press release clarifies that the Xbox Live demo will be released on Monday, January 26th and, for Gold subscribers, will be "available exclusively on Xbox 360 for one week" -- at which point the PSN version will be released (during the week of February 5th). In addition, the Resident Evil 5 TGS trailer will be available for download on Xbox Live beginning this Friday, January 16th. [Via PS3 Fanboy] Gallery: Resident Evil 5 (12-18-2008)

MTV Multiplayer was informed that the currently Japanese exclusive RE5 demo will release globally via Live in what we're guessing to be its current form. So, you can either be patient or use other means to get non-Xbox Live functioning demo access.
