Netflix will stream the terrible-looking 'ReBoot’ reboot

By the mid-90s, Saturday morning cartoons were a blur of occasionally brilliant animated comedy and a ton of trash made to sell toys. One rose above the rest for sheer novelty: ReBoot was one of the first shows anywhere to be completely computer-generated, and it was set within a computer, turning programs and viruses into heroes and villains. It was kinda wild, a futurist TRON-for-kids that pushed young viewers to think about technology. Revival-happy Netflix just released a trailer for a new ReBoot television show...and it looks like a far cry from the original.

Intel recently admitted that its latest patch for "Spectre" was essentially worse than the bug it was supposed to fix, as it was causing computers to spontaneously reboot. Now, Microsoft has taken action by issuing an out-of-band patch for Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 that disables that fix for Spectre variant 2. If you're experiencing the problem you'll need to download the update, as it won't yet install automatically.

You may want to ready your wallets and your mouse-clicking fingers for the NES Classic's launch today. Some fans who attended the midnight event at Nintendo's New York offices were already able to get one, but don't worry: you can grab your own from several retailers. Amazon, for one, has sent out emails informing customers that it'll start selling the retro-console in "very limited quantities" starting at 2PM PT/5PM ET later. The online shopping giant warns that it expects demands to be high and that "there's no guarantee that it will remain in stock for long." If you're looking to buy from Amazon, make sure to bookmark the device's page and set an alarm.

The next 'Lost in Space' reboot starts on Netflix in 2018

Netflix optioned Lost in Space late last November, and we finally have a few more details about when we'll see it. The classic -- and short-lived -- sci-fi reboot is currently slated for a 10 episode run and will premiere in 2018, according to Deadline's sources. The report goes on to say that the series shouldn't stray too far from original creator Irwin Allen's original: The Robinson family (neither the Classic or the Matt LeBlanc version) will find themselves, you guessed it, lost in space with them "battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons."

  • 'Mirror's Edge Catalyst' and the long shadow of a cult classic

"It's a game that's built a lot on momentum and forward movement and not stopping, reaching almost a zen-like thing." That's how DICE Design Director Erik Odeldahl describes his latest game, Mirror's Edge Catalyst. It stars Faith, a freerunner, as she sprints, slides and leaps around a stark-white futuristic urban sprawl. The city is her playground. On top of a skyscraper, Faith builds up speed and swings onto a thin ledge, where she seamlessly dashes and jumps, rolling onto the roof of the next building and always running, running, running. For many fans, this constant motion is what the series is all about. But Odeldahl's favorite part of Catalyst involves no movement at all.

  • Netflix is bringing back 'Lost in Space'

Netflix is known for its quality original programming. But every now and then it can't help but pick some low-hanging fruit like rebooting a classic series. Deadline reports that the streaming service has just penned a deal to remake 1960s classic Lost in Space. Originally set in a futuristic and completely inaccurate 1997, it followed a family who tried to colonize deep space and got lost when their navigation equipment was sabotaged. The program ended after a three-season run in 1968 and since then, others have tried to reanimate the franchise. The first was a movie adaptation in 1998 starring Matt LeBlanc (which says all you need to know about its quality). Then in 2004, a reboot pilot was shot but never aired. Rumours of a third attempt surfaced around a year ago, but fizzled out before anything was made. There's been no mention of who will star in it or when it will air, but here's hoping the Lost in Space Robot doesn't flail its arms and robotically warn us: "Danger! Danger! Another failed sitcom rehash!"[Image credit: Getty Images]

It's been more than 30 years since Matthew Broderick, Ally Sheedy and a WOPR supercomputer named Joshua came close to triggering World War III in the hacker movie WarGames. The phrase "Shall we play a game?" still resonates with people today, but it may soon find a new audience after MGM, which owns the rights to the cult film, announced it's getting a modern reboot. The studio has teamed up with interactive video company Interlude to create an "original interactive short drama," turning WarGames into a Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) video with brand new characters and storyline.

  • 'Rise of the Tomb Raider' is more of the same, and that's okay

Crystal Dynamics' 2013 Tomb Raider reboot pulled off a tough task: It successfully brought life back to an aging, muddled franchise and provided heroine Lara Croft with an excellent origin story. Now that Croft has made her transition from a terrified shipwreck survivor to adventuring (but still vulnerable) badass, what does she do for an encore? Rise of the Tomb Raider (coming to the Xbox One and 360 as a timed exclusive on November 10th) answers that by tightening up and refining the first game's core experience while throwing players into an entirely new environment. The world is bigger, there are more skills to improve, more secrets to find and, yes, more tombs to raid. It isn't wildly different than the last game, but that's not a knock: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

EA already told us that Need For Speed was taking a... brake, but now it's back. And EA is calling it "the definitive Need For Speed experience." You'll be able to drive around an open-air environment twice the size of its predecessor, Rivals. Customizations have also been cranked up, and there's a suitably Fast And Furious-sounding story mode where you need to build your reputation as well as your car. It lands on PC, PS4 and Xbox One this November 3rd -- and it's looking good enough that you may expect to smell the tires. See for yourself in the trailer, just below. Check here for everything happening at E3 2015!

When EA's quarterly report dropped earlier in May, it included a few tasty game-related tidbits, including a "holiday 2015" launch window for a new Need for Speed. EA today confirmed that Need for Speed will launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC this fall -- and it's a full-on reboot of the series. "With more than 20 years of history in its rear view mirror, we're bringing Need for Speed back with a reboot that delivers on what Need for Speed stands for -- rich customization, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative," EA Community Manager Ben Walke writes. The first teaser for the game is fairly gorgeous and EA says that all of its footage was captured in-game. Watch the video below, and keep your eyes here on June 15th for the first gameplay trailer and official announcement direct from E3 2015.

  • 'Battlebots' reboot will air on ABC June 21st

We knew the Battlebots TV show would crawl out of its early 2000s grave for another six episode run on ABC, and now the network has announced when. Sunday June 21st at 9PM, Battlebots will once again light up screens with robot vs. robot combat, now enhanced with the elimination of weight classes, the addition of onboard cameras and "a greater emphasis on the design and build elements of each robot." The competitions didn't actually stop once Comedy Central turned the TV lights out in 2002, so in a few months we should see how a decade or so of maker culture has advanced the sport -- as long as the producers' desire to add backstory doesn't get in the way. Hey, it can't be worse than Fuller House. [Image credit: nerdabout/Flickr]

  • HBO's 'Westworld' reboot with Anthony Hopkins will air next year

HBO has just green-lighted J.J. Abrams Westworld series, a reboot of Michael Crichton's now-classic 1973 movie about robots gone bad. it announced the series launch via Twitter, with a creepy Vine (see below) confirming the 2015 date. The original plot revolves around lifelike robots that help amusement park guests fulfill their fantasies but cause havok when the park's central computer fails. Execs told the Hollywood Reporter that each robot can come back after being killed off, allowing the actors to play different parts on different episodes. That helped HBO attract a star-studded cast, reportedly including Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris and Evan Rachel Wood. There's no exact air-date yet, but the concept and the cast look highly promising.

  • Bethesda: Doom reveal meant to quell negative Id Software chatter

Id Software's upcoming Doom reboot was revealed last week at QuakeCon 2014, though the event's livestream cut out during the presentation. As Bethesda's VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines told PC Gamer, Doom isn't exactly ready to show off, so the developers at id Software were reluctant to offer images of the game up freely for the rest of the world to pick at. "We're working with them to say, 'How does this work? What do we want to show?'" Hines said. "And they're like, 'Look, we don't want a stream to go up for a game that isn't at the point where we would formally show it to the world, and now that thing is getting picked apart, and digested, and gone through frame-by-frame and getting nitpicked to death, when normally we wouldn't be showing this to anybody at all.'"
