Shh! Don't move or you'll scare it away. It's a red Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 console, seen here in its natural retail habitat at a Target store in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Note its orange "DO NOT SELL BEFORE 3.13.09" markings. It's a sure identifier of this particular 360 species. And even though we already saw one of these consoles in captivity last week, it's a rarity to spot one roaming through retail this early prior to launch. She's a beauty, alright.

New 360 SKUs always seem to land on Target shelves a bit early, and the new Resident Evil 5 red Xbox 360 Elite limited edition is no exception -- there it is, hanging out in Pembroke Pines, Florida. We don't know if these are just out behind the counter or if the staff is just ignoring that DO NOT SELL BEFORE 3.13.09 sticker, but we're certain some kind soul will let us know soon.[Thanks, Morgan]

Here it is, folks. Major Nelson has done us the courtesy of producing the above unboxing video for the red Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 console. New facts have emerged, as we now know the bundle features not only a gaming console, but also a headset, and a power supply. There's even a copy of Resident Evil 5 in there to enjoy. You'll be able to scare up one of your own next month, on Friday the 13th.Update: A few folks have brought it to our attention that the red Xbox 360 shown in Major's video is one of the newer, more reliable Jasper models. During the video, Major mentions the console includes a Jasper-sized 150 watt power supply and also shows the power plug-in. A plug-in that looks oh so similar to the special Jasper connector. We aren't sure if all RE5 Xbox 360s will feature Jasper chipsets, but we're nearly certain that the hardware in this video has Jasper innards. Take that knowledge for whatever it's worth.[Via Engadget]%Gallery-45781%

Looks like that red Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 bundle wasn't just some tripped out figment of your imagination. Just moments ago, the package popped up for Xbox Live subscribers, detailing a handsome red Xbox 360 Elite with a 120GB hard drive, Resident Evil 5, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and a few other odds and ends (like a handful of cables). There's an indication that you can pre-order the kit, but at this point, we're not aware of any place to follow through. We'll keep our eyes peeled, of course.Update: According to the German press release we just received, the limited edition bundle will hit Europe on March 13th for €299 -- likely $399 Stateside. Gallery updated with official press pictures.Update 2: Boom! Pre-order at Best Buy for $399. [Thanks, Ivan]%Gallery-45700%

The Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 bundle is totally a real thing that people will be able to buy! We kind of assumed that the bundle, containing a red system and a copy of the game, wasn't just some rumor, but now we have confirmation that is about as official as anything can be: an Xbox 360 told us! Check your spotlight -- it should be the second-to-last card. The bundle features, of course, a red system and wireless controller, as well as a copy of the game (which stars Chris Redfield!) It also includes a black, wired headset, a 120GB hard drive, an exclusive Resident Evil premium theme, and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix! All this for -- oh, we don't know how much, actually, nor do we know when it'll be available. Toys R Us listed $399 for the price, and we're inclined to believe it.Update: Now it's even more official...er! Major Nelson has confirmed that the Resident Evil 5 bundle will retail for $399 and posted some high-res photos for your analysis.%Gallery-45781%

  • Red Xbox 360 mentioned in PR, is probably real

digg_url = 'http://digg.com/microsoft/Red_Xbox_360_mentioned_in_PR_is_probably_real'; So it looks like that red Xbox 360 Elite that we heard might be on its way is, in fact, on its way. A press release for Halo Wars in New Zealand makes mention of the phantom console -- the deal is that anyone buying a new Xbox 360 will get a free copy of the game, but the fine print excludes the doesn't-yet-exist red model, because it's "exclusive to EB Games." So this is the Resident Evil 5 one? It's all so unclear. We haven't picked up on any context clues as to a time frame for release or price. Yet.[Via Joystiq]

  • Red Xbox 360 Elite mentioned in MS press release

In a quest to end the bitterness between the Xbox 360 and the color red, Microsoft appears to be reconciling the two in a new Xbox 360 Elite SKU. The unannounced product has stumbled into the public eye much in the same way that many of Microsoft's secrets do -- first a rumor, then a retailer inventory listing and then an innocent mention in a New Zealand-bound press release.Alright, maybe that last one doesn't quite adhere to the formula, but according to Kotaku, an MS New Zealand promotion for the upcoming release of Halo Wars -- buy a 360, get a free copy of the game! -- explicitly excluded "the Red Xbox 360 Elite console which is exclusive to EB games." You know, that one that hasn't been announced, and that certainly won't be announced "at this time."Though mention of the system has been stricken from the online version of the press release, we'd be immensely disappointed if the system, whether tied to Resident Evil 5 or not, failed to make an appearance. We can't let all these Red Rig of Death jokes go to waste!Source -- Red Xbox 360 Mentioned Officially by MicrosoftSource -- MS quiet on red Xbox 360 rumorsSource -- Halo Wars Promotion

  • Totally rad, red Xbox 360 spied in Toys R Us fine print

Is this for reals? If so... yay! If the above screenshot of a Toys R Us terminal is to be believed, there might be a new, red Xbox 360 Elite on its way to a shelf near you. Details beyond the SKU are pretty scant, but the price is the same as the current Xbox 360 Elite model -- $399. We know a certain, fashion-conscious avatar who is going to be really excited if this is true.[Via Joystiq]
