It's been a year since AMD's Zen 2 Ryzen 3000 CPUs changed the desktop PC market, with best-in-class productivity and "good enough" gaming performance. One area has been left behind, though: desktop APUs, which combine a processor with integrated graphics. Today that changes, as AMD is announcing a family of "4000G" APUs for desktop PCs.

Dell debuts an AMD Ryzen version of its G5 gaming laptop

Dell is expanding its G5 gaming laptop line with an unusual addition: AMD hardware under the hood. Its new G5 15 Special Edition will run on AMD's new "Renoir-H" Ryzen laptop processors and Radeon RX 5600M graphics, giving you solid mid-tier performance if you don't care much for the Intel/NVIDIA combos that often dictate gaming portables. Not surprisingly, there's an option for a FreeSync-compatible 144Hz display to help deliver tear-free visuals.

AMD's CES 2020 press conference is about to take place and it should include some details on next-generation Ryzen processors. There also might be some more info on Renoir chips as well as another GPU to round out the current 5000 lineup.

What better way to say "this is most assuredly not a real Renoir" than by busting the 8 megapixel camera all the way down to a pathetic three-tenths of a megapixel? The good news, we suppose, is that you'll pay just $107 for the LC (yes, LC) KC910 -- but in exchange for your thrift and utter disregard for copyright law, you'll be stuck with GPRS data, a WQVGA display (compared to the real deal's WVGA), and an interface inexplicably ripped clean off a Nokia 5800. Plus, we bet the crazy guy wouldn't be willing to jump for you, which is a tragedy unto itself. [Via LG Central, thanks Marcel]

  • LG Renoir KC910i gets refreshed, and we get it on camera

So out of the blue we hear that the LG Renoir KC910 has become the KC910i. A quick inspection of LG's booth shows this as true, so we just had to find one off the tether to compare with the original -- and a kindly employee's own KC910 was donated for the cause. So what's new? Well, so far as we can see, the housing's changed the tiniest bit in the mechanical iris that protects the lens is no longer there, the handsets is now very black, and if anything, the newer is a hair thinner. Those aside, see if you can't spot some differences in the pics and vid that follow the break, think of it as a game.%Gallery-45269%

  • LG's Renoir tortured in the name of science and art

We heard some impressive claims about LG's Renoir earlier this month at CES courtesy of a rather desperate spokesman, but nothing compares to the torture test the phone recently underwent and, unlike Nokia's 5800, survived. The handset was left in the freezer at -20C (-4F) for 12 hours, dropped to the floor, stepped on, thrown in a clothes drier for 15 minutes, caked in dust, dunked in wine, and run over by a Ford Focus. After all that it functioned just fine, suffering only a few scratches on the screen inflicted by the pavement -- a small price to pay if you're clumsy enough to drive over your own phone. Curiously soothing videos of the abuse after the break.

  • LG and SanDisk team up for memory card-based content protection scheme

It's not quite slotMusic, but it looks like SanDisk is intent on offering yet another option for memory card-bound content, and this time its enlisted the help of LG to make it happen. This setup is intended to let cellphone carriers offer content that would only be able to be used on "approved handsets" on their network, which is apparently made possible by allowing IP connectivity to the memory card in the phone, which in turn serves as a network node that is able to be remotely managed using the industry standard OMA Smart Card Web Server. That bit of magic has apparently already been demonstrated on an LG KC910 Renoir phone, but it doesn't look like there's any carriers that have signed on just yet, or at least any that are ready to announce it.[Via Phone Scoop]

Though it has been out for some time, we'd not had the chance to really check out LG's Renoir properly -- even though Engadget Spanish has had a chance. Of course, LG's massive booth featured an area dedicated to this 8 megapixel effort that we had to almost fight through to get at this phone. The interface is good, the weight and feel in-hand doesn't come off as $10 plasti-crap, and the touchscreen does seem to get its job done. Crazy presentations aside, LG's Renoir is a really solid effort, color us suitably impressed. Engadget Mobile has the gallery.

Oh sure, you've seen LG's KC910 (or Renoir, if you prefer) out in the wild before, but our kid brothers and sisters over at Engadget Spanish were able to get up close and personal with the 8-megapixel handset during its formal introduction in Spain. Specs wise, there's nothing to discuss that you aren't already familiar with, but if you just can't get enough imagery of the fanciful device, you can gorge some more by hitting the read link.

Based on what we've learned about LG's KC910 (or the Renoir, as it's affectionately known), we had all ideas it was being reserved for corners of the globe not named USA. But after taking one look at the specifications on the outfit's Global web portal, we're beginning to have second thoughts. Granted, this whole thing could just be a copy and paste blunder, but the 8-megapixel cellie sure shows up as having support for 850/900/1800/1900 GSM bands. Everything else looks par for the course, but we'd be lying if we said we weren't a wee bit excited about the possibilities here. Hold tight -- we'll be keeping an ear to the ground for more details.[Thanks, Kevin]

  • LG's 8-megapixel Renoir handset gets previewed, handled

We were already warned that the megapixel race was headed to the mobile realm, and as if you needed any more proof, here we are looking down the lens of LG's 8-megapixel Renoir. Clearly aimed at Samsung's recently unveiled Pixon, this touchscreen-based handset found itself in the loving arms of CNET's UK branch. During the limited time editors spent with it, they found the interface to be eerily similar to that found on the Viewty and the camera to be a real winner. As expected, the not-a-3.5mm headphone jack was none too pleasing to critics, but we did overhear the T-Mobile G1 voicing its support of the port. Anywho, tap the read link for the full preview / hands-on shots.[Thanks, T.I.]

Yeah, we've seen the PR, ogled the specs, but real honest-to-goodness pics are doing nothing but make our grins bigger. LG's KC910 packs everything under the sun into its newest and flashiest handset, from an 8 megapixel cannon to Dolby Mobile, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, this will be a tough review unit to return if we get our paws on one. Apparently still slated for an October release, we've no word on pricing, but you can expect it to sting dearly off-contract. We'll be following this set really closely, so do swing back and we'll be sure to tell ya what we find out. Follow the read link to get the pics
