Anxious to see just how purty Resident Evil 4's textures will be on the PC when the game makes its HD return to the platform? Capcom-Unity has released some comparison screens showing the greater detail afforded by the new port. Capcom has added a lot more detail to Leon's jacket as well as the many trees littered around Resident Evil 4's rural Spanish setting. Wooden boards have more defined textures too, and the HD version supports maximum resolutions of up to 2560x1600 and 2560x1440. Resident Evil 4 first launched on the PC in 2007 from developer Sourcenext. The original PC port, screens for which you can see in our gallery below, included multiple widescreen resolution options along with bonus content previously only available through the PS2 version of the game. Capcom issued only one post-launch patch designed to correct issues around Resident Evil 4's problematic shadows and lighting on PC. Resident Evil 4 HD, compatible with Windows PC, launches on Steam next month, on February 28 for $20. Resident Evil 4 HD is also available on Xbox 360 and PS3.

After seven years, Resident Evil 4 is returning to the PC, only this time the hordes of maniacal backwoods villagers bearing down on you will be rendered in modern, high-definition graphics. This version of Resident Evil 4 is described by Capcom as the "Ultimate HD" iteration of the game. This means that it includes high-definition graphics running at 60 frames per second - a first for the game - as well as all of the additional content released for Resident Evil 4 in its many, many incarnations to date. Resident Evil 4 will support the full range of Steam features, from Achievements to Trading Cards to gamepad support. When Resident Evil 4 reaches Steam on February 28 it will feature a $20 price tag. According to Capcom, those who pre-order the HD re-release will receive a "60+ track digital music album" as well as an "80+ page digital archive (English language only) featuring Resident Evil 4 characters, creatures, story, concept art, and more." Full details can be found on the game's Steam page.

We get it: every October, it's all about basketball and bank robberies for us, so naturally the top-grossing games on PSN for the month revolve around similar subject matter. The PlayStation Blog reports that the two top games purchased and installed in October are NBA Jam: On Fire Edition and Payday: The Heist in first and second place, respectively. Taking third place was the re-release of Crysis, followed by Chrono Trigger and Resident Evil 4 HD. Also, we're glad to see Odin Sphere debut in the charts at number 15 -- you may recall, its release is part of the "Only on PlayStation Network" campaign where select PS2 games were given new life as PSN titles. We're all for older games (especially good ones) finding a new audience! You can see the full list of October's top-earners through the source link below. Just try not to flip out too much when you see Real Steel rank higher than God Hand.

  • PSA: Capcom wants to buy your Resident Evil stories at a fair price

Capcom wants to tell the world how much of a scaredy-cat sap you are, but since it doesn't have cameras installed in your consoles (yet) it needs your help. To celebrate HD versions of RE 4 and Code Veronica X hitting Xbox Live and PSN in September, Capcom is making a video series of its fans' most memorable moments and wants your best freak outs, sob stories and nostalgia bombs to share with the world. Send your stories to the games' official site in the form of text, videos, photos, shoebox diorama, or whatever twisted method you can concoct, for the chance to be featured in the video and win some mysterious prizes. If we were sentimental, we'd tell Capcom about our junior year, where every day after school we went to our best friend's house to play RE 4, fingers orange with Doritos residue, screaming and spilling Coke on the carpet whenever Leon ran into a bag-headed madman, then laughing for no good reason other than the knowledge that it was the best time of our young lives. If we were sentimental. If.

  • Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica X HD assets slap some new on the old

The latest trailers and screenshots for Capcom's renovated, HD versions of Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica X are a mixed bag. RE4 is looking moderately better with the HD spit-shine, but the somewhat more antiquated Veronica looks ... well, like a recently face-lifted grandma.

Fresh news out of Comic-Con for zombie hunters and presidential-daughter-babysitting-simulator enthusiasts alike: the previously announced HD remakes of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X will be shambling and moaning onto US shores this September. RE4HD lands on September 20, with Code Veronica X HD's charmingly incomprehensible plot following a week later on September 27. That's a few weeks after the far superior Japanese launch, not that we're bitter or anything. Both titles will be available at your local brick & mortar, through the PlayStation Network and as Xbox Live Games On Demand titles.

Much like the Achievements for Code Veronica X HD, the Achievements for Resident Evil 4 HD mostly revolve around story progression, save for two we're sure are going to give you a tough time. The "What are they worth?" and "The S stands for stylish!!" Achievements can be unlocked only after you acquire all bottlecaps and costumes, respectively. Succeeding in that doubly tough endeavor will get you 250 Gamerscore (out of the possible 1,000). And if there's something more important than imaginary points tied to one platform, we don't wanna hear about it.
