WoW Moviewatch: The Thaenor Chronicles, Chapter Two
It would appear as if I didn't sabotage Stormscape Creations' PR campaign after all. He was true to his word and produced a sequel that is a much better improvement over Chapter One. It's so good, in fact, that it was recommended immediately upon upload on Warcraftmovies.com.This time around, Stormscape finishes up the loose ends from Chapter One, and creates new plotlines with which to move forward in the saga of the Thaenor brothers. He also employs voice actors, which was a major complaint from the first movie. However, since YouTube nerfed Director's accounts, he had to upload his 20+ minutes opus, The Thaenor Chronicles: Chapter Two, in three separate parts. EIEIO 08: Velvet Assassin actually dressed in leather
click to embiggen It's true. The game's title character may be velvet in some way, but the luxurious fabric does not figure into Violette Summers' ensemble. Instead, she alternates between skin-tight leather and a diaphanous, lingerie-like hospital gown. It's definitely more of a video game in that respect than a solemn tribute to Violette Szabo.Why the hospital gown? The events of Velvet Assassin are framed as flashbacks remembered by a dying Summers, who is lying in a hospital bed as the game starts. She recounts her former missions behind enemy lines. This method of storytelling actually ties into the gameplay in a rather bizarre way. %Gallery-17268%
Gamecock's WWII stealth shooter 'Sabotage' becomes 'Velvet Assassin'
We doubt that many of you had even heard of Sabotage, an up-and-coming Gamecock joint based on the incredible true story of World War II hero (for the Allies, at least) and secret agent extraordinaire Violette Szabo, but we think it's worth mentioning when a game upgrades from a title as generic as "Sabotage" to something unique; something that sounds purchase-worthy. That's why we're totally behind developer Replay Studios' decision to remoniker the stealth action shooter Velvet Assassin.Lucky Austintonians will get a chance to check out the newly eponymed game at Gamecock's E.I.E.I.O expo this coming Thursday -- the rest of us will have to wait for Velvet Assassin's Fall 2008 release to digitally fill Violette Summers' sneaky leather shoes.
Conan eases writers strike boredom with Rock Band
It would seem that Conan (the Late Night talk show host, not the barbarian) had a lot of time on his hands since the Writers Guild of America put down their pencils, pens and iBooks in order to get their fair share of the royalties pie, and, as a result, put his show on hiatus for nearly two months. When he wasn't frittering time away planning his grand return to Late Night or growing an unsettling beard, the Cone Zone killed time with a game that many of us cuddled up to during the rerun-filled winter months -- Rock Band.As seen about a minute into the video (which, funnily enough, probably isn't netting any royalties for any writers), Conan chooses to sing the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" in the style of Edith Bunker. It's great, but we prefer our version of Faith no More's "Epic", where we do an alarmingly accurate impression of Lamar from Revenge of the Nerds. What flourishes you add to your Rock Band vocal performances to coax precious lulz from your bandmates?Also, we missed you, Conan. Counter-Strike shooting slowed by actual shooting
At around 7 p.m. on Monday, ISPs around the country experienced a period of slowdown, which seemed inexplicable until workers discovered that fiber optic lines in Cleveland, Ohio -- reportedly owned by Level 3 Communications -- had been the target of sabotage... by gunfire. Anders Olausson, a TeliaSonera AB spokesman, said that the company had lost the northern leg of its network, and when technicians pulled up the lines to inspect, it was apparent that, "Somebody had been shooting with a gun or a shotgun into the cable." The damage was spread out over nearly two-thirds of a mile along the lines, and the effect was felt across multiple networks. Cogent Communications warned customers that they would be experiencing outages, and blamed the disruptions on "cut lines," and Keynote's Internet Pulse Report showed that the provider was experiencing significant latency. As of now, the saboteurs remain anonymous and their motives unknown, but undoubtedly scores of WoW players wait in fear of their next attack.
NASA worker caught in act of sabotage on ISS bound computer
According to breaking news from NASA, a space program worker is alleged to have deliberately damaged a computer that was meant to fly aboard the Endeavour in less than two weeks, in an apparent act of sabotage. NASA says the unnamed individual, who works for one of the space agency's subcontractors, cut wires inside a computer that was headed to the International Space Station (ISS) on the shuttle. The alleged tampering occurred outside of NASA operations in Florida, but the agency isn't naming the subcontractor or where exactly the incident took place. The agency hopes to fix the damage and launch the Endeavour August 7th, as planned. As this appears to be the first ever report of sabotage on the space program, you can expect to hear a lot more on this story in the very near future.[Via TheWolfWeb]
Halo 3 possibly back in PS3 launch frame, says analyst
With all the PS3 delay news flying around lately, it seems that a certain big sequel for the Xbox 360 may have creeped back onto the 2006 release window.According to Next Generation, a "lead analyst" from Tokyo is claiming that "big-hitting titles" for the first-moving 360 could be targeted at the PS3 launch "just to sabotage it." He stated that the release of Halo 3 ("timed to PS3") would be "quite damaging for Sony" as well.Well, a preemptive launch of Halo 3 would certainly serve as a distraction to Sony's next-gen launch plans, but people who really want a PS3 probably won't be deterred by Microsoft's premiere FPS appearing around the same time their favorite console does. Gears of War most likely won't stop PS3 fanboys, either. An unexpectedly early release (of either title) would certainly prove to be a perfect holiday present for 360 owners, however.
