Samsung Galaxy M offers up Super AMOLED for less
Samsung's 2011 flagship still tantalizingly out of your wallet's reach? Well, you might be tempted by the latest addition to the Galaxy family that's just gone official in Korea. While the shell appears nigh-on indistinguishable from the previously announced Galaxy R, there are some notable spec differences. The M totes a four-inch Super AMOLED screen, not the Super Clear LCD found on the R, while there's also only a single-core 1GHz processor here, not the dual-core Tegra 2 found on its older brother. The camera has also felt the pinch, shrinking from a five megapixel to a three megapixel offering. The Gingerbread handset measures in at just under 10mm thick, while still packing a TV tuner and a metallic body more similar to the Wave series than the plastic-backed Galaxy family. The M moniker places it in the high-end affordable spectrum, according to Sammy's latest naming strategy, priced at around $500, although there's no news on a release outside of its homeland just yet. The phone will arrive in three confusing color options; Platinum Silver [above], Blue Black and Lavender Pink. Samsung Galaxy R officially announced for Europe and Asia, nobody surprised
That Samsung Galaxy R we've heard about? Yep, it's real. Not that it's much of a surprise to us, considering we've seen leaked press renders and even a four-minute video about the device, but Samsung and NVIDIA have finally banded together to give the "mystery phone" its official blessing. Here's the skinny: the Galaxy R will house a 1GHz Tegra 2 CPU, a 4.2-inch WVGA (800 x 480) Super Clear LCD, dual 5MP / 2MP cameras in the rear and front (respectively), and Gingerbread with Samsung's TouchWiz UI. The phone's already available in Sweden as the Galaxy Z, but it's finally on its way to parts of Europe and Asia (including China). No word on if or when we can plan on seeing the R in North America, but it's likely that its launch would be quickly obscured by its older brother, the Galaxy S II, if it made an appearance. Good ol' Sammy's playing another round of Galaxy Alphabet Soup. Judging by a rather legitimate-looking video that's posted after the break, R could be the next character to identify Samsung's rapidly-growing Galaxy lineup. It's speculated to be a version of the Galaxy Z, a more affordable spinoff of the Galaxy S II up for pre-order in Sweden -- one that'll be fitted with a 4.2-inch Super Clear LCD, 1GHz dual-core CPU, "HD" video recording, and 8GB internal memory. According to SammyHub, the unannounced phone could be destined for Europe before expanding its sphere of influence to southwest Asia, China, and the Middle East. If this one doesn't fit your fancy, don't worry -- there's plenty of letters left to claim.
