Samsung still hasn't committed to a formal launch date for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/samsung-announces-e6-e-book-reader-at-ces/">e-reader line</a> it launched at CES, but the company narrowed down the launch date from "early 2010" to "this spring" this morning -- which makes sense, seeing as spring has nearly, uh, sprung. We're only hearing about the six-inch E6 at the moment, along with a new Barnes and Noble partnership -- we're not sure anyone will pick the Samsung over <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/24/barnes-and-noble-ceo-describes-nook-as-single-best-selling-prod/">the popular Nook</a>, <strike>especially at the $399 price point we heard at CES</strike>, but at least there's a built-in content ecosystem. Interestingly, we're not hearing anything about the 10-inch E10 or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/04/samsung-e61-e-book-reader-outed-brings-physical-qwerty-keyboard/">QWERTY-equipped E61</a>, both of which would fill large gaps in the B&amp;N-enabled lineup, but we're looking out for more info -- we'll let you know. In the meantime, you can watch a video of all three devices <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/22/samsungs-e6-e101-and-e61-e-readers-shown-on-video/">right here</a>.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Samsung says the E6 will be $299 at launch, which is a nice little drop. As for the E10 and E61, all we're hearing is that they "may be coming soon," so who knows what's going on.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update 2:</strong> The model name's been changed since CES -- it's now the E60, not the E6.<br />

We were <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/samsung-announces-e6-e-book-reader-at-ces/">fortunate enough</a> to get a quick moment with Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/04/samsung-e61-e-book-reader-outed-brings-physical-qwerty-keyboard/">new assortment</a> of e-readers back at CES, but the cool kids over at <i>Notebook Italia</i> were able to get the E6, E101 and E61 <em>on video</em>. There's little doubt that these look awfully different than all of the other me-too options on the market, and the touch input seems to be extraordinarily responsive based on the demonstration. Speaking of which... hop on past the break to have a look yourself, cool?<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/22/samsungs-e6-e101-and-e61-e-readers-shown-on-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samsung's E6, E101 and E61 e-readers shown on video</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/22/samsungs-e6-e101-and-e61-e-readers-shown-on-video/">Samsung's E6, E101 and E61 e-readers shown on video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 22 Feb 2010 13:03:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Well, here's one e-reader that won't have too much trouble standing out from the pack -- not only does Samsung's SNE-60K boast a 6-inch touchscreen with support for handwriting recognition, but it has a fairly unique slider design that hides some of the additional controls (no <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/04/samsung-e61-e-book-reader-outed-brings-physical-qwerty-keyboard/">QWERTY keypad</a> on this one, though). Otherwise, you can expect built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, MP3 support (no word on storage) and, judging from the icons on the screen, at least a few other basic applications. Still no indication of a release over here, but this one is now available at Kyobo Bookstores in South Korea for 429,000 won (or about $375).</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/17/samsungs-sliding-handwriting-recognizing-sne-60k-e-reader-hits/">Samsung's sliding, handwriting-recognizing SNE-60K e-reader hits South Korea</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 17 Feb 2010 18:49:00 EST. The pair of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/samsung-announces-e6-e-book-reader-at-ces/">Samsung-borne e-book readers</a> we espied at CES just became a trio. E6 and E101, please give a round of applause your new on-screen brother, the E61 (pictured next to Kindle). What sets this guy apart from the rest is a physical QWERTY keyboard, but otherwise boasts a 6-inch, 600 x 800 resolution screen and all other amenities found in the E6, including a removable battery should you find yourself thousands of pages into a book and no charger in sight. <em>PC Professionale</em> was on hand to get hands on with the device, and we also spotted a touchscreen keyboard on the E101 -- nothing to write about, but it's good seeing just how we'll be navigating the dictionary when needed. No word on its release date, so for now we're gonna assume it falls under the same "early 2010" timeframe we heard with the other two.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/04/samsung-e61-e-book-reader-outed-brings-physical-qwerty-keyboard/">Samsung E61 e-book reader outed, brings physical QWERTY keyboard to lineup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 04 Feb 2010 17:31:00 EST. We're here in the middle of Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/live-from-samsungs-ces-2010-press-conference/">CES press conference</a>, and the company's just revealed its first <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ebook/">e-book</a> reader. We don't have many details yet -- we know there will be a 10- and 6-inch model, both with touchscreens, that Google is the content partner, and that it's got a soft QWERTY keyboard and wireless but no 3G (a bit of a downer). The two readers -- dubbed the E6 and E101 -- will feature on-screen handwriting capabilities, Bluetooth 2.0, and 802.11b/g WiFi. The 6-incher will clock in at $399, while the bigger version will sell for $699, and both will be available in "early 2010."<br /> <br /> <strong>Update:</strong> We just nabbed a quick hands-on. It's pretty thin, and it's hiding a secret: it's a slider with hidden controls! The touch sensitivity seemed pretty okay, but we'll have to spend some non-rushed time with it to get a true feel for things. Check out more in the gallery, and see the full press release after the break.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-announces-e6-and-e10-e-book-readers-at-ces/">Samsung announces E6 and E10 e-book readers at CES</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-announces-e6-and-e10-e-book-readers-at-ces/#2587942"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/2010-01-06samsunge6-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-announces-e6-and-e10-e-book-readers-at-ces/#2587943"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/2010-01-06samsunge6-9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-announces-e6-and-e10-e-book-readers-at-ces/#2587944"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/2010-01-06samsunge6-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-announces-e6-and-e10-e-book-readers-at-ces/#2587945"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/2010-01-06samsunge6-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-announces-e6-and-e10-e-book-readers-at-ces/#2587946"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/2010-01-06samsunge6-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/samsung-announces-e6-e-book-reader-at-ces/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samsung announces E6 and E10 e-book readers at CES</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/samsung-announces-e6-e-book-reader-at-ces/">Samsung announces E6 and E10 e-book readers at CES</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 06 Jan 2010 17:46:00 EST. Publicly, at least, The New York Times has <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/11/new-york-times-randd-group-is-braced-for-the-future-of-content-del/">seemed perfectly kosher</a> with the way things are moving in the newspaper industry. Rather than freaking out and wondering why they didn't make the move to digital earlier, it's apparently looking to push the digital distribution of its content via discounts and partnerships with hardware providers. In a rather unique and unprecedented move, the paper has today announced that prospective readers can receive $100 off of a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/16/atandt-adds-samsung-go-to-netbook-lineup-dumbs-it-down-with-windo/">Samsung Go netbook</a> if they subscribe to Times Reader 2.0 for a year. The machine will come pre-loaded with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AdobeAIR/">Adobe AIR</a>-based application -- which pushes published content to one's machine on the double -- and will be sold exclusively through J&amp;R Music and Computer World. Of course, NYT wants $179.40 for a one-year sub, so the deal's not exactly awesome or anything, but the offer stands for first-time subscribers until March 2010 if you're interested.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/25/samsung-go-netbook-gets-100-cheaper-with-one-year-times-reader/">Samsung Go netbook gets $100 cheaper with one-year Times Reader 2.0 subscription</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 25 Nov 2009 07:12:00 EST. Now here's some yummy news to wrap our minds around. Samsung, a company with a manufacturing portfolio so wide that you wouldn't be surprised to see it selling toothbrushes and perfume, clearly also wants a slice of that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/27/ebooks-making-libraries-popular-again-can-do-nothing-about-your/">growing ebook market</a> and has now unveiled a 10.1-inch color display with that purpose in mind. It's still very early days, with a measly 10:1 contrast ratio and the ability to display only 7% of the NTSC color gamut, but baby steps are better than no steps, right? While Sammy is shooting at delivering this within two years, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/pvi">PVI</a> -- the maker of displays for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/kindle">Kindles</a> and Sony <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/sonyreader">Readers</a> -- is expected to ramp up production of its own color screens in the second half of 2010. Add these two heavyweights to the color e-readers already expected from Plastic Logic (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/09/barnes-and-noble-confirms-color-plastic-logic-e-book-reader-fo/">spring 2010</a>) and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/27/bridgestone-announces-flexible-touchscreen-color-e-reader/">Bridgestone</a>, and what you get is one hell of a thriving marketplace -- as long as <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/pixelqi">Pixel Qi</a> doesn't render them all useless when it launches <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/17/pixel-qi-e-ink-lcd-hybrid-display-to-debut-on-tablet-next-mont/">later this year</a>.<br /> <br /> <a href="http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20091029/177059/">Read</a> - Samsung Exhibits 10.1-inch Color E-paper<br /> <a href="http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20091029PD214.html">Read</a> - PVI to ramp up flexible and color EPD in 2010<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/29/samsung-shows-off-color-e-paper-prototype-pvi-might-beat-it-to/">Samsung shows off color e-paper prototype, PVI might beat it to market in 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 29 Oct 2009 07:55:00 EST. <div align="left">Samsung's announced it's jumping into the best game in town -- the paperless book trade -- with its SNE-50K <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ebookreader/">e-book reader</a>. With 512MB of onboard storage, a five-inch touchscreen and stylus, and a complete lack of wireless or internet capabilities, it's not the most advanced reader we've ever seen, but it's slim and light, at nine millimeters thick and weighing about 6.5 ounces. In South Korea, where the reader will be launched first, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Samsung/">Samsung</a> has partnered with Kyobo Bookstore, one of the largest booksellers in the country. There's no word on launches outside of South Korea at this time, but Samsung does plan on showing a prototypes for other countries at a trade show in January (most likely <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CES/">CES</a>).<br /></div>
