Hooray, another Samsung phone made it through the FCC, and it looks like it could be another <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/">Galaxy S II</a> variant. No, it's not the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/06/another-galaxy-s-ii-passes-through-the-fcc-possibly-rockin-a-t/">Tegra 2-clad</a> version. Nor is it the one with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/27/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-with-wimax-stops-by-the-fcc-on-its-way-to-sp/">WiMAX</a>. Heck, it's not even the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/13/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-hits-the-fcc-potentially-ready-for-atandt-3g/">GT-i9100</a> that showed up in March. Nay, it's the Samsung i777, a <em>new </em>form of the phone sequel we've been pulling our hair out in anticipation for. What's so great about this candidate? It's rocking an NFC antenna on the battery cover and utilizes 850 / 1900 bands in the WCDMA / HSPA variety, making it a tasty target for users on AT&amp;T, Bell, Rogers, or Telus. The phone's dimensions are identical with Europe's current model, which nearly seals the deal on its likely association with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-official-tegra-2-4-3-inch-super-amoled-plu/">Galaxy S II</a> lineup. Annoyed that this beauty is cradled in some FCC tester's hands and not yours? Fret not, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/20/galaxy-s-ii-expected-to-land-in-the-us-next-month-someday-some/">August</a> is quickly approaching.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/29/did-the-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-with-nfc-just-hit-the-fcc/">Did the Samsung Galaxy S II with NFC just hit the FCC?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 29 Jul 2011 00:21:00 EST. Today marks South Korea's official launch of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/">Galaxy S II</a>, with Samsung ensuring its home country gets plenty of superphone love before turning its attention <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-begins-quest-for-120-country-domination/">abroad</a>. Rival carriers SK Telecom and LG Uplus have added this Super AMOLED Plus beauty to their repertoire, joining KT, who's already begun taking <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/26/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-on-pre-order-in-south-korea-introduces-olle/">pre-orders</a> for the device which retails for approximately $790 (before subsidies, of course). Though we're left wishing this amazing slab of engineering was available everywhere and all at once, we must remind ourselves that patience is a virtue, and -- oh, forget it -- who's flying to South Korea with us? <br />

How do you best <strike><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/28/samsung-tabulates-2-million-slates-80-million-phones-sold/">10 million</a></strike> 14 million in sales of your flagship Galaxy S smartphone? Easy, do what the movie studios do and launch a bigger-budget sequel to an even wider audience. Samsung is holding a media day event in South Korea to celebrate the domestic launch of its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/13/galaxy-s-ii-benchmarked-makes-other-phones-cry-in-shame/">smokin' fast</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-official-tegra-2-4-3-inch-super-amoled-plu/">Galaxy S II</a>. Naturally, we expect variants of the S II, with and without NFC, to hit all the US majors just like the Galaxy S did in its day. It's not the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/19/samsung-s2-portable-hard-disk-does-the-7-200rpm-bump-with-usb-3/">first time</a> that Samsung's pimped up their hard drives with some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/usb+3.0">USB 3.0</a> goodness, but come April, the Korean giant will be delivering three new product lines that are yet to be named. The first one is a basic portable model that goes up to 1TB, and comes encased in a smudge-resistant matte housing with a choice of four colors. The next one up is simply a premium version of the portable drive that not only looks prettier (as pictured above), but also beefed up with auto backup software and 256-bit Full Disk Encryption. A USB dock will be available for both portable lines.<br />
<br />
Last but not least, those looking for more storage space (and presumably faster spinning speeds) can turn to the desktop version, which will be available in three flavors: 1TB, 1.5TB, and 2TB. Press release after the break.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">If you picked up <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/04/samsung-doles-out-640gb-s2-portable-2tb-s3-station-hdds/">Samsung's 640GB S2</a> portable USB hard drive earlier this year then you might want to look away. Sammy just update the drive with a USB 3.0 interface and 7,200RPM spindle speed that should easily best its predecessor when it comes to pushing the bits around. You know, something deep, deep inside of us knew that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/michael-jackson-this-is-it-ps3-bundle-makes-it-a-better-place/">this was going to happen</a>, but with Michael Jackson's untimely departure of Planet Earth back in the news thanks to Mr. Conrad Murray's arraignment, it seems like the glut of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/06/gold-and-diamond-covered-michael-jackson-phone-fashionably-late/"><i>This Is It</i>-related gear</a> is even touching the typically straightforward tech industry. The drive you're weeping at above is the February 22nd-bound 500GB <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/samsung,s2">S2 Portable</a>, complete with a paint job that can only be described as overkill. Jackson's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/10/this-is-it-blu-ray-release-debuts-movieiq-sync-brings-more-mich/">final film</a> is pre-loaded on here (and likely entangled in DRM), as well as Samsung's own Auto Backup feature that'll keep your aged concert photos safe for a few more decades. Of course, the inclusion of a "SecretZone" service -- which encrypts specific files while requiring a password to access -- seems a bit tasteless given the subject matter here, but leave it to Samsung to Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'. <br />

Whatever Toshiba can do, Samsung can do... um, equally well? Evidently that's the game being played over at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IFA/">IFA</a>, as the latter company has issued a 640GB portable hard drive of its own nary 24 hours after <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/02/toshiba-intros-2-5-inch-5400rpm-640gb-hard-drive-in-internal-e/">Tosh did likewise</a>. The unspeakably cute <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/21/samsung-mini-s2-portable-hdd-graced-with-colors-that-perfectly-m/">S2 portable</a> is getting a much-needed capacity bump, making the largest drive in the line 640GB. In related news, the company's 3.5-inch S3 Station external HDD has seen its maximum storage level creep north to 2TB, though storage freaks will have to wait patiently until "early next year" in order to take one home. Prices for both remain a mystery, but if we had to guess, we'd put the MSRPs about a penny under whatever Toshiba settles on. Call it a hunch.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://hothardware.com/News/Samsung-Intros-640GB-S2-And-2TB-S3-External-Hard-Drives/">HotHardware</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/storage/" rel="tag">Storage</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/04/samsung-doles-out-640gb-s2-portable-2tb-s3-station-hdds/">Samsung doles out 640GB S2 portable, 2TB S3 Station HDDs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 04 Sep 2009 18:11:00 EST. We certainly hope that Joongoo Lee has a royalty check in the mail, because to the untrained eye, it looks like Samsung has taken the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/27/samsung-costume-hard-drive-concept-appeals-to-the-ladies/">Costume concept we peeked back in July</a> and made it a reality. The fashionable S1 and S2 hard drives include 1.8- and 2.5-inch HDDs (respectively), with the former arriving in 80/120/160GB capacities and the latter in 160/250/320/500GB sizes. The compact drives are entirely USB-powered and include a handful of expected backup / data protection features. As for colors, you can expect these in piano black, snow white, red wine and chocolate brown this month in Europe, while South Koreans will be asked to wait until November. As for the rest of ya? Hope you know a good importer.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.i4u.com/article20686.html">I4U News</a>, thanks Luigi]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/storage/" rel="tag">Storage</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/07/samsungs-s1-s2-portable-hdds-closely-resemble-costume-concept/">Samsung's S1 / S2 portable HDDs closely resemble Costume concept</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 07 Oct 2008 16:36:00 EST. How the photographer made those pebbles look matte we'll never know.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/press-shots-for-samsungs-new-s2-and-s3-players/">Press shots for Samsung's new S2 and S3 players</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/press-shots-for-samsungs-new-s2-and-s3-players/#769305"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/samsung-press-spring-000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/press-shots-for-samsungs-new-s2-and-s3-players/#769306"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/samsung-press-spring-001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/press-shots-for-samsungs-new-s2-and-s3-players/#769332"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/samsung-press-spring-002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/press-shots-for-samsungs-new-s2-and-s3-players/#769343"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/samsung-press-spring-003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/press-shots-for-samsungs-new-s2-and-s3-players/#769334"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/samsung-press-spring-004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/23/press-shots-for-samsungs-new-s2-and-s3-players/">Press shots for Samsung's new S2 and S3 players</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 23 Apr 2008 15:45:00 EST. We just got to spend a smidgen of quality time with Samsung's new boringdaps: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/23/samsung-intros-the-s2-pebble-and-slim-s3-portable-media-player/">the S2 and S3</a>. Gone are the pretensions of Bluetooth grandeur of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/P2/">P2</a>, these two players are about as straightforward as it gets. Samsung's targeting the fashionistas in the crowd, and while the S3 might be a bit larger than they were hoping for in a 4GB player, the S2 "pebble" has kind of a fun feel to it -- though some sort of clip-on apparatus would be appreciated.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-s2-and-s3-hands-on/">Samsung S2 and S3 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-s2-and-s3-hands-on/#768950"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/samsung-p3-s3028_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-s2-and-s3-hands-on/#768949"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/samsung-p3-s3014_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-s2-and-s3-hands-on/#768948"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/samsung-p3-s3025_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-s2-and-s3-hands-on/#768947"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/samsung-p3-s3012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-s2-and-s3-hands-on/#768946"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/samsung-p3-s3001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/23/samsung-s2-and-s3-hands-on/">Samsung S2 and S3 hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 23 Apr 2008 13:01:00 EST. Samsung -- known for dropping a PMP or two on the public -- has introduced a couple of new media players sure to have you tearing up and snapping open piggy banks. First up is the S2 "Pebble" player which <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/13/samsungs-round-yp-s2-dap-gets-the-sneak-peek-action/">we saw a little while back</a>, a tiny, rounded DAP with 1GB of storage on-board that can tune in your favorite FM stations (they still have those, right?) as well as play back MP3, WMA, and OGG files. The S2 comes in green, purple, red, and black / white, which should make it easy to match up with your outfit. The other new offering is the S3, a 4GB or 8GB full-function (yet slim) device which sports a 240 x 320 display, plays MP3, MPEG4, and WMA files, includes an FM tuner, flash games, and comes in green, red, blue, or black / white. Both models will be available in June, no word on price. Stay tuned for a thrilling hands-on experience with both new models.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/23/samsung-intros-the-s2-pebble-and-slim-s3-portable-media-player/">Samsung intros the S2 'Pebble' and slim S3 portable media players</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 23 Apr 2008 11:50:00 EST.
