The Sanyo PLC-WL2503 isn't the first whiteboard-less whiteboard solution we've seen -- in fact multi-surface projector interaction dates back at least as far as 2007. As for a projector with built-in interactive capabilities, well, Epson's BrightLink 450Wi has been on the job since last year, albeit at a much higher price: the Epson projector costs $2,200 while this Sanyo comes in at about $500 less. Both tout short-range projection: the BrightLink provides 80-inch displays from two feet, while the PLC-WL2503 requires at least 34 inches to do the same. They pack identical WXGA 1280x800 resolution and 2500 lumens of brightness, and they both use IR pens to communicate with front-facing cameras built into the projector for multi-surface interactivity. Really, the only thing separating these two on paper is price. If the BrightLink is just too rich for your blood, and you can wait a little while longer, the Sanyo PLC-WL2503 can have you writing on walls by the end of January.
Sanyo PLC-WL2503 ultra-short-throw projector does built-in interactivity a tad cheaper originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 19 Jan 2011 07:29:00 EST. Sanyo's been a relatively large player in the short-focus / short-throw projector game for awhile now, so frankly, this was inevitable. As everyone (and their third cousin, in fact) races to jump on the three-dee bandwagon, the aforesaid company has just pumped out its first 3D short-focus PJ. The PDG-DWL2500J doesn't boast the most amazing of specs -- the native resolution sits at just WXGA -- but it can project a 3D image from a distance as short as 2.4 centimeters. It also touts a maximum projection size of 110 inches, and it can be installed vertically or horizontally depending on your mood. There's also an HDMI socket, Ethernet port, 16:10 aspect ratio, 2,500 lumens of brightness, a single 10-watt speaker and a price tag that'll probably make you spit out your morning coffee. Word on the street has it that this one will launch next month in Japan for ¥450,000, and if that $4,868 conversion follows it stateside, you can bet only a handful will be lined up to drag one home.
The full list of specs for Sanyo's upcoming PLV-Z4000 3LCD projector are after the break, but there's not much to see if you're familiar with the PLV-Z3000 model from two years ago. An apparently upgraded "TopazReal HD" system promises to reproduce up to 216 billion color combinations, up from a mere 1.06 billion colors last time, but at its heart you'll find a 1080p24 capable, 120Hz, dual HDMI 1.3b, 1,200 lumen beamer just waiting to be dropped into a home theater. The good news is the MSRP has wound its way down significantly over the years, as it's due at the end of may for $2,495, which is about the price the Z3000 is listed for in most places these days. Those capabilities were a bit more impressive the first time around, if you're the projector type, does fit the bill for what you're looking to lay down two grand on in 2010?
Continue reading Sanyo PLV-Z4000 3LCD projector gets more colorful, cheaper

Sanyo PLV-Z4000 3LCD projector gets more colorful, cheaper originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 28 Apr 2010 15:56:00 EST.
Sanyo already announced its PLC-WXU700 for Japan last week (or LP-WX700, as it's known there) but the company has now finally gotten official about its availability over here, and cleared up a bit of confusion in the process. In case you missed it, this one is apparently the world's first projector to pack built-in 802.11n WiFi, which should come in particularly handy with the projector's video streaming functionality. Otherwise, you can expect to get the standard WGXA resolution, along with a decent 3,800 lumens, a 500:1 contrast ratio, all the basic inputs, a USB port, and a plain old LAN port in case you get stuck in a conference room without WiFi. The key detail that's been up in the air, however, is the price, which it turns out is neither $642 or $6,445 but an expectedly disappointing $2,995. True, Sanyo's LP-WXU700 is limited to a WXGA (1280 x 800) pixel image. But it's still the world's first to transmit that video over 802.11b/g/n (draft 2.0). Grabbing wireless video off your Vista PC is a snap thanks to the projector's Windows Embedded CE 6.0 software with Video Streaming Function that links back to Vista's Network Projector Function. Spec-wise we're looking at a 0.74-inch 3LCD panel capable of projecting a 100-inch image at a distance of 2.5 to 4-meters at 3,800 lumens with a 500:1 contrast ratio. Sanyo even tosses in a single HDMI jack in addition to the usual analog inputs. While, it's targeted at offices and schools, it wouldn't surprise us to see this ¥<strike>62,790 (about $642)</strike> projector show up in make-shift home theaters and gaming rooms when it launches in June.

Update: Oops, dropped a 0 from the price. It's actually ¥627,900 or about $6,445 according to the native English press release but even that doesn't sound right.

[Via Akihabara News]
Filed under: Industry, Other hardware, Others, Projector

Sanyo's LP-WXU700 projector is first to stream HD video over 802.11n WiFi originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 12 May 2009 07:37:00 EST. Sanyo's had a knack for pumping out short-throw projectors, but its latest prototype unquestionably takes the cake. Better still, that can scale up to 150-inches by adding just another foot of breathing room -- and just to remind you, we're talking full 1,920 x 1,080 resolution here. Sanyo also tossed in 7,000 lumens of brightness, though mum's the word when it comes to price or nearness to production.

[Via AkihabaraNews]

Gallery: Prototype Sanyo projector throws up 1080p at near point-blank range

Filed under: Displays, HDTV, Home Entertainment

Prototype Sanyo projector throws up 1080p at near point-blank range originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 14:14:00 EST.
Still haven't found a wireless projector that meets your needs? Then you may want to consider one of Sanyo's new LP-XU355 or LP-XU305 models, which each pack a standard XGA resolution and a new "Simple Wireless Setting" that lets you use an included USB drive to easily network with any computer. Otherwise, you can expect to get 3,000 or 3,500 ANSI lumens of brightness, a single 7W speaker in each, a wireless remote, and a full range of inputs, including a single HDCP-compliant DVI port. If you don't mind being tethered, you can also opt for Sanyo's new non-wireless LP-XU350, LP-XU300, LP-XU301, or LP-WXU300 models, which are each more or less similar to their WiFi counterparts, with the exception of the LP-WXU300, which ups the resolution to 1280 x 800. No word on a release 'round here just yet, but those in Japan can apparently look for the first of the lot (including the two wireless models) to roll out in May, with the remainder trickling out over the course of June and July.

[Via Akihabara News]

While not high definition like the company's most recent projectors, Sanyo's PLC-XF71 manages to compensate with 10,000 lumens for some serious brightness. By comparison, the recently-unveiled PDG-DHT100JL sports 6,500 lumens and its sub-$2000 PLV-1080HD just 1,200. Beyond that, it's got a 1024 x 768 picture and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. If you don't mind trading resolution for intense luminance, look for it to show up this month for a papered Abe Lincoln under $17,000.

Sanyo's PLC-XF71 projector packs 10,000 lumens for extreme brightness originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 16 Jan 2009 09:39:00 EST. Sanyo already delivered a sub-$2,000 1080p projector today, but the PDG-DHT100JL DLP beamer is definitely a notch above. The noticeably more brawny PJ, which is destined for a Japanese release in March, packs a 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution, 6,500 lumens, twin UHP lamp and a dual twin color wheel system. No word on a price just yet, but trust us, it'll be up there.
Filed under: Displays, Others, DLP, Projector

Sanyo punches out PDG-DHT100JL 1080p DLP projector originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 10 Jan 2009 08:47:00 EST. You're probably wondering if adding in a fourth panel to an LCD projector is really worthwhile. Actually, you're probably willing to bet your bottom dollar that it's a gimmick. Sound & Vision took the time to actually critique Sanyo's latest with an open mind, and believe it or not, it found the all new QuaDrive technology to be everything it was hyped up to be. To be fair, the PLC-XP200L isn't tailored for the home theater; the lowly 1,024 x 768 resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio sound downright appalling. However, reviewers focused more on the actual technology / image quality given that Sanyo already has a compact, quieter, 16:9 QuaDrive beamer slated for 2009. During a demonstration, critics found the new tech to be visibly better than 3LCD rivals, with the picture appearing "dramatically more vivid." Should you rush out and buy the XP200L? Probably not. But you may just want to delay your impending PJ purchase until that HT version hits next year.

Sanyo's 4LCD PLC-XP200L projector gets reviewed originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 29 Sep 2008 18:29:00 EST. In a fit of drab, Sanyo just announced its most advanced home theater projector yet. Fortunately, the staid, colorless promotional shot above that heralds the arrival of the LP-Z3000 stands in stark contrast to the projector's impressive capabilities. First, it features a 120Hz Full HD panel and the industry's first 5:5 pull-down promising an accurate and smooth 24p projection onto the big screen even under scenes of intense movement. We're also talking a high-contrast, 65,000:1 ratio, 1,200 lumen lamp, and super quiet 19-decibel fan when operating in "theater black" mode. Around back we've got 2x HDMI v1.3b jacks, 2x component, and plenty more inputs for your PC or legacy AV gear. Ships November 28th in Japan for ¥483,000 or about $4,588 assuming the dollar doesn't completely collapse by then.
Filed under: Industry, Displays, Others, Projector

Sanyo levitates top-o-the-line LP-Z3000 3LCD projector with help from a legless robot originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 16 Sep 2008 05:18:00 EST. We've already seen Sanyo dish out this duo in Japan under slightly different model names, but Americans who were bawling at the thought of having to fly to Tokyo in order to grab one can put away those tears. The outfit has just unleashed the PLC-XC55 (3,100 lumens) and the PLC-XC50 (2,600 lumens) here in the States, both of which feature a 1,024 x 768 resolution and Sanyo's own Active Maintenance Filter (AMF) system. These two mark the first "portable PJs" to be equipped with such a system, and if you're interested in knowing -- we know, you're on the edge of your Aeron -- it also boasts a built-in 7-watt speaker, DVI / VGA / component / S-Video / composite sockets and audio in / out jacks. Both units are landing in July, with the XC55 demanding $1,995 and the XC50 stickered at $1,495.

Sanyo introduces PLC-XC55 / PLC-XC50 projectors originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 30 May 2008 14:56:00 EST. Sanyo's got a new duo of projectors hitting the Japanese market today, the LP-XC55 and LP-XC50. Both beamers boast white motifs, a boisterous 7-watt internal speaker, 1,024 x 768 resolution, a security bar enabling extra thick cabling to hold it in place and the Active Maintenance Filter system for easy maintenance. Essentially, the latter enables the filter to last longer between changes and "automatically senses when airflow is obstructed by dust, and advances the cartridge to the new filter." The only notable difference between the two is the 3,100 ANSI lumens (XC55) / 2,600 ANSI lumens (XC50), and of course, the ¥365,400 ($3,529) / ¥312,900 ($3,022) price tags.

[Via AboutProjectors]

Sanyo's LP-XC55 and LP-XC50 projectors fitted with Active Maintenance Filter system originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 12 May 2008 14:52:00 EST. Presumably ensuring that no one views Sanyo as hypocritical, the company's Superbright PLC-ET30L actually can throw up a fairly recognizable image even in a well-lit room. Featuring an SXGA+ (1,400 x 1,050) resolution, a 1,300:1 contrast ratio and a remarkably high 4,200 ANSI lumen rating, this PJ was undoubtedly designed to function in classrooms and boardrooms (or living rooms) that just can't avoid ambient light. Additionally, Sanyo's introducing the lower-spec'd PLC-XT21/L, which offers up an XGA (1,024 x 768) resolution, 1:000:1 contrast ratio and 4,000 ANSI lumens. Both newcomers to the T series line support wired networking and emit just 35dB of fan noise, but being priced at $6,495 and $4,995 (respectively), the duo is most definitely cut out for the corporate card and not your own.
Filed under: Displays, HDTV, Home Entertainment

Sanyo's Superbright PLC-ET30L projector actually is really bright originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 15 Apr 2008 10:54:00 EST.
It looks like it's not only those in Japan that'll be able to get their hands on what's purported to be the "industry's smallest and lightest XGA projector," with Sanyo now also announcing that its diminutive PLC-XW60 LCD projector will soon be available 'round these parts as well. Most importantly, the price has also received a rather steep cut from the direct Yen to dollar conversion, with it now boasting an MSRP of just $795. That'll still get you the very same 3.6-pound projector, however, which packs a respectable 2,000 lumens of brightness, a 400:1 contrast ratio, component, composite and VGA inputs, and, last but not least, a built-in 1 watt mono speaker. Look for it to hit all the usual sources sometime next month.

With all these projectors running around claiming to be the world's smallest, it's hard to say who's really being truthful anymore. Nevertheless, Sharp seems pretty confident that its 55- x 264- x 188-millimeter LP-XW60 LCD projector is in fact the most compact in its class. Whatever the case, there's no denying that thing is mighty small, and features wise, you find a 1,024 x 768 resolution, 400:1 contrast ratio, built-in one-watt speaker, 2,000 lumens, audio in / out and a VGA video output for good measure. We've no idea if this one will ever make it outside of Japan, but for those shacked up over there, get ready to grab one in late April for a staggeringly high ¥207,900 ($2,028).

[Via FarEastGizmos]

Sanyo's LP-XW60 LCD projector claims be to industry's "smallest and lightest" originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 11 Mar 2008 13:15:00 EST. Make no mistake, the whole "only 3-inches needed for a 80-inch image" bit got us pretty jazzed up, so we couldn't skip the opportunity to take a look at the PLC-XL50 all setup and proving itself at CES. Sure, crawling all up under the table to get a closer look was heavily frowned upon, but it was totally worth it. Peep the pics below!

You heard right kiddos, this thing only needs three tiny inches to totally take over your wall, and subsequently, the mounting options here are nearly endless. We've no idea what happened to Sanyo, but if any less of the company showed up at CEDIA, its exhibitor spot would be entirely barren. Sanyo's booth was actually smaller than a lot of lesser-known firms, and aside from a small selection of (admittedly brand new) projectors, there simply wasn't <strike>much</strike> anything there to gawk at. Regardless, we were able to point the lens at the outfit's PLC-WXU10, PLC-WXU30 and LP-Z2000 projectors, but considering that the buck stopped there, we really hope you're into boxy PJs.

Gallery: Sanyo's CEDIA booth tour

Filed under: Industry, Displays, Others, Projector

Sanyo's CEDIA booth tour originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 07 Sep 2007 03:31:00 EST.
