Worried that Panasonic would kill off Sanyo's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Sanyo+xacti/">signature pistol-grip camcorders</a> after it <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/22/panasonics-sanyo-and-pew-buyout-official-subsidiaries-for-life/">bought its rival</a> last year? Fear not -- Panny just went and resurrected Sanyo's ergonomic design with three new models - slapping its own brand on 'em, of course. And, in a move that would do Sanyo proud, Panasonic brought back the DMX-CA100 / VPC-CA100, a 1080p camcorder Sanyo released last year under the same name. It's gotten a spec boost, though, with the ability to snap 16 megapixel still photos, up from 14.4. The other two -- the HX-DC15 and the HX-DC1 -- both shoot 1080p video as well, with the DC15 offering 16GB internal memory and a 16 megapixel sensor, and the DC1 able to take 14.4 megapixel stills. No word on availability outside Japan, but we're sure those of you with a penchant for flip-out displays and candy-colored plastic will find a way to snag one.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/25/panasonic-resurrects-sanyos-pistol-grip-camcorders-trots-out-t/">Panasonic resurrects Sanyo's pistol-grip camcorders, trots out three new models</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 25 May 2011 14:43:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Sanyo/">Sanyo</a> isn't breaking out the hyperbole with this <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/sanyo,waterproof">water-resistant</a> full HD pocket camcorder -- that honor went to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/31/sanyo-xacti-dmx-ca100-joins-the-waterproof-pocket-hd-camcorder/">DMX-CA100</a> back in May -- but the VPC-CA102YL does boast a spec sheet as impressive as its product name. We've got 1920 x 1080 / 60i video in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, 14 megapixel stills, an articulating 2.7-inch wide LCD, 12x dual range zoom on video, and 5x optical zoom on photos... and did we mention it's waterproof up to 10 feet under? Connectivity options include USB, mini HDMI for TV sets, and a SDXC card slot. Due out this month -- perfect for capturing the very last bit of Summer -- for a penny under $350. Product shots below, press release after the break. (P.S. -- 10 feet to the bottom of the ocean? <em>Bizarro!</em>) <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-vpc-ca102yl-waterproof-pocket-hd-camcorder/">Sanyo VPC-CA102YL waterproof pocket HD camcorder</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-vpc-ca102yl-waterproof-pocket-hd-camcorder/#3238853"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/sanyo-vpc-ca102yl-2010-07-2217-49-13-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-vpc-ca102yl-waterproof-pocket-hd-camcorder/#3238855"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/sanyo-vpc-ca102yl-2010-07-2311-12-47-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-vpc-ca102yl-waterproof-pocket-hd-camcorder/#3238857"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/sanyo-vpc-ca102yl-2010-07-2311-50-02-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-vpc-ca102yl-waterproof-pocket-hd-camcorder/#3238858"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/sanyo-vpc-ca102yl-2010-07-2312-43-42-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-vpc-ca102yl-waterproof-pocket-hd-camcorder/#3238861"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/sanyo-vpc-ca102yl-2010-07-2313-05-21-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/05/sanyos-vpc-ca102yl-waterproof-pocket-hd-camcorder-your-perfect/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sanyo's VPC-CA102YL waterproof HD camcorder, your perfect accessory for visiting Sealab 2021</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/05/sanyos-vpc-ca102yl-waterproof-pocket-hd-camcorder-your-perfect/">Sanyo's VPC-CA102YL waterproof HD camcorder, your perfect accessory for visiting Sealab 2021</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 05 Aug 2010 16:40:00 EST. Sure, Sanyo's PR claims this camera is the "world's first waterproof full HD camera," but unfortunately for them <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/27/kodak-playsport-zx3-waterproof-hd-camera-review/">Kodak beat them to the punch</a>. A caveat at the bottom of the PR clarifies that this claim was merely meant for "Full HD video cameras for consumer use with optical zoom lenses," which naturally makes everything better. Plus there's no point in getting down on Sanyo, since it's essentially delivered its classic <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Xacti/">Xacti</a> form factor and middle-of-the-road image quality in a waterproof (up to 10 feet) chassis. The DMX-CA100 will be launched at the end of June for some unnamed price, and shoots 1080p video to H.264, 14 megapixel stills, and offers a 6x optical zoom augmented by a 6x "Advanced Zoom" that crops the image sensor instead of just blowing up the pixels like a regular digital zoom. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-xacti-dmx-ca100-press-shots/">Sanyo Xacti DMX-CA100 press shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-xacti-dmx-ca100-press-shots/#3025308"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/xacti-waterproof-01-gal_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-xacti-dmx-ca100-press-shots/#3025307"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/xacti-waterproof-02-gal_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-xacti-dmx-ca100-press-shots/#3025306"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/xacti-waterproof-03-gal_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-xacti-dmx-ca100-press-shots/#3025305"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/05/xacti-waterproof-04-gal_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/31/sanyo-xacti-dmx-ca100-joins-the-waterproof-pocket-hd-camcorder/">Sanyo Xacti DMX-CA100 joins the 'waterproof pocket HD camcorder' crew</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 31 May 2010 01:07:00 EST. Sanyo's line of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/22/video-sanyos-collection-of-new-dual-cameras-handled-critiqu/">Dual Cameras</a> -- which are described as camcorders at heart with formidable still capture capabilities -- is now shipping to select retailers in the United States and Mexico. The crew is comprised of the VPC-FH1, which handles 1080p at 60fps along with 8 megapixel stills, and the VPC-TH1, which shoots at 720p and sports a 30x optical zoom. Also included is the waterproof (up to ten feet, anyway) 720p VPC-WH1 and the otherwise vanilla VPC-CG10. As for pricing? Try $499.99, $299.99, $399.99 and $199.99 in order of mention.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-ships-xacti-vpc-fh1-vpc-wh1-vpc-th1-and-vpc-cg10-camcorders/">Sanyo ships Xacti VPC-FH1, VPC-WH1, VPC-TH1 and VPC-CG10 camcorders</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-ships-xacti-vpc-fh1-vpc-wh1-vpc-th1-and-vpc-cg10-camcorders/#1468758"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/04/sanyo-vpc-wh1-big_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-ships-xacti-vpc-fh1-vpc-wh1-vpc-th1-and-vpc-cg10-camcorders/#1468759"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/04/sanyo-vpc-cg10bk-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-ships-xacti-vpc-fh1-vpc-wh1-vpc-th1-and-vpc-cg10-camcorders/#1468760"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/04/sanyo-vpc-cg10pk-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-ships-xacti-vpc-fh1-vpc-wh1-vpc-th1-and-vpc-cg10-camcorders/#1468761"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/04/sanyo-vpc-fh1-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sanyo-ships-xacti-vpc-fh1-vpc-wh1-vpc-th1-and-vpc-cg10-camcorders/#1468762"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadgethd.com/media/2009/04/sanyo-vpc-fh1-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/02/sanyo-ships-xacti-vpc-fh1-vpc-wh1-vpc-th1-and-vpc-cg10-camcord/">Sanyo ships Xacti VPC-FH1, VPC-WH1, VPC-TH1 and VPC-CG10 camcorders</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 02 Apr 2009 21:01:00 EST. The Xacti E2 records MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 video at 640 x 480, snaps stills at 8-megapixels, captures content onto SD / SDHC cards and features a 2.5-inch flip-out LCD for easy viewing of what footage you're snagging. There's also a 5x optical zoom and Face Chaser technology, the latter of which uses a "proprietary Sanyo algorithm to compensate for distracting up-and-down or side-to-side camera movement, keeping your subject steady and easy to follow." The 9.1-ounce device (in brilliant blue or pearlescent white) is available now in the US for a penny shy of $400.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.macworld.com/article/135350/2008/09/xacti.html?lsrc=rss_main">Macworld</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/03/sanyo-confesses-its-love-for-water-with-xacti-e2-pocket-camcorde/">Sanyo confesses its love for water with Xacti E2 pocket camcorder</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 03 Sep 2008 13:14:00 EST. You see, unlike many alternatives, this waterproof set packs a 1080p Full HD panel, meaning that you can enjoy your Blu-ray films in full-res glory while slouched in a beach chair beside your pool. Furthermore, the display is daylight readable and features a 1,500:1 contrast ratio, 1,500 cd/m2 brightness, 6.5-millisecond response time, 176-degree viewing angles, a slew of inputs and a frame constructed from marine grade anodized aluminum. For a couple seconds there we couldn't quite figure out what we'd do with a waterproof portable TV to call our very own, since jogging through the rain while watching our favorite shows on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/1seg/">1seg</a> seems a little bit melodramatic, but Sanyo says its aiming this LVT-WD40 thing at bathroom and kitchen usage, which makes a bit more sense. Features are pretty standard, the 4-inch LCD sports a 480 x 272 resolution, and Sanyo claims about six hours of battery life. Unfortunately, while the player can be used anywhere -- including being fully submerged in a bathtub -- its media capabilities seems to be more limited, since there's no media compatibility to speak of beyond the standard 1seg TV access. This one's selling on the 21st in Japan for 50,000 yen ($453 US).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20071119/sanyo.htm">Impress Watch</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/19/sanyos-lvt-wd40-waterproof-portable-tv/">Sanyo's LVT-WD40 waterproof portable TV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 19 Nov 2007 08:46:00 EST. Take a Sanyo <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/13/sanyos-xacti-cg65-h-264-video-cam/">Xacti CG65</a>, add some waterproofing, and what do you get? Why the Xacti E1 of course. While Sanyo had the "water resistant" <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/15/sanyo-intros-water-resistant-xacti-ca6-still-video-camera/">CA6</a> last year, they're calling this the world's first "waterproof" camcorder. Like the landlubbin' version, the E1 is a digital camera / H.264 recorder which writes both 6 megapixel stills and 640 x 480 pixels/30fps videos direct to SD/SDHC cards. Only now, it does so when submerged at depths up to 5 feet for no more than an hour at a time. Available mid-June in choice of Blue, yellow, or white for $500.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/22/sanyos-xacti-e1-waterproof-camcorder-good-to-a-depth-of-5-feet/">Sanyo's Xacti E1 waterproof camcorder: good to a depth of 5 feet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 22 May 2007 11:41:00 EST. Sanyo's waterproof TV managed to slip under our CeBIT radar last week, but not for long. It appears they were showing off the sexily-named 42LM4WPR-E (oh yeah, speak nerdy to us), a 42-inch HDTV that stands out among a sea of HDTVs (pun intended) by being one of the few <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/01/lux-entertainment-intros-ariis-ar26ssmce-waterproof-mce-tv/">waterproof models on the market</a>. Granted, there are very few particular applications which would require the average Engadget reader to require a watertight HDTV, but we have been meaning to install something like this in our working rain-forest simulator at the Engadget compound, and now's as good a time as any to buy.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/19/sanyos-42lm4wpr-e-hdtv-gets-wet/">Sanyo's 42LM4WPR-E HDTV gets wet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 19 Mar 2007 17:34:00 EST. Sanyo's been on an LCD run of late, busting out a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/17/sanyo-epson-announce-7-1-inch-1080p-lcd-by-far-the-worlds-smal/">7.1-inch 1080p</a> edition, only to now take things outside with its weatherproof 42-inch LCD TV. The 42LM4WPN sports the IP56 weather resistance approval, and also sports an anti-reflective, tamper-resistant glass to show off those sparkling HD signals even when pummeled with streams of water. The set boasts a 1,366 x 768 resolution, 500 cd/m2 brightness, 800:1 contrast ratio, 178-degree viewing angle, 8-millisecond response time, and a lightweight aluminum frame to boot. On the rear, you'll find inputs for VGA, <a href="http://hdtv.engadget.com/tag/hdmi/">HDMI</a> (<a href="http://hdtv.engadget.com/tag/hdcp/">HDCP</a>-compliant), RGBHV (BNC), component, composite, audio out, and even an RS-232 serial port. The display also plays nice with Sanyo's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/06/10/sanyo-launches-plc-xp57l-networked-projector/">PJ-NET organizer</a>, which allows the display to be used as a network monitor, "using your internet browser to monitor and control" its properties without any additional software. While there's no set release date or pricetag associated with this rugged beauty just yet, we're hoping <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/sanyo">Sanyo</a> opens up the flood gates around CES.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hdtv/" rel="tag">HDTV</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/29/sanyos-weatherproof-lcd-tv-the-42-inch-42lm4wpn/">Sanyo's weatherproof LCD TV: the 42-inch 42LM4WPN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 29 Nov 2006 19:43:00 EST.
