The latest round of patch notes has introduced several new sections of content pertaining to the next expansion and just how classes are going to function. One of these new items is Secondary Stat Attunements -- passive abilities that grant a 5% bonus to specific secondary stat bonuses for every class and spec in the game. This bonus is in addition to the secondary stat bonuses you'll find on gear in Draenor. So what does that mean to you, the player? It's a little boost for your character, but in addition to that, it's also a little nudge in the right direction as far as choosing secondary stats that are appropriate for the spec you want to play. For instance, balance-spec druids have a Secondary Stat Attunement for mastery -- meaning they've automatically got a 5% bonus applied to their mastery, and indicating that hey, mastery is a pretty good thing, and perhaps you'll want to pick up more of that over other secondary stats. Read on for the full list of Secondary Stat Attunements.

Technical Game Designer Chadd "Celestalon" Nervig has been tweeting recently about the changes to gems coming in Warlords. We already knew via his previous tweets that gem sockets on gear are very likely to appear by random bonus in the upcoming expansion, but what he's clarified today is that primary stats, so strength, intellect and agility, will no longer be gem-able: @Ady_Mx There are no more primary stat gems. Only secondary stat gems. - Celestalon (@Celestalon) December 29, 2013 This, as he also mentioned, relates to the gear changes in Warlords meaning that gear needs to be usable cross spec. Gems won't change between specs, so they would need to be secondaries only. He has also confirmed that tertiary stats won't be gemmed. What does this mean for Jewelcrafters going forward? Red gems with primary stats have always been the strongest sellers as demand for them is so high. It's possible that it will result in more even prices across the secondary stats, but we'll just have to wait and see. And while Celestalon hasn't confirmed this, it seems likely that primary stat enchants offering +intellect, +strength or +agility might also disappear, resulting in necessary changes for some profession bonuses. With the new gear system, secondary stat enchants, which are already the vast majority of enchants, make the most sense. As far as tertiaries go, he does mention that movement speed may remain on boots, but no further information was offered.

  • Warlords of Draenor's gear system and spirit as a secondary stat

There has been some discussion recently, on Twitter, between Lead Systems Designer Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street and several players about some elements of the new gearing system, and how it applies to healers. First up, I feel like, before we get into the specifics, I should quickly wrap up how the new system will work. You won't understand the rest of the article without this knowledge, so let's rattle through it. The new gearing system works as follows: A piece drops. It is plate, mail, cloth or leather. It has crit and haste as secondary stats. Its primary stat will change according to your spec, so if you're a caster it will be intellect, melee DPS could be strength or agility and so on. As you change spec, the primary stat changes with you. The secondary stats (in this example, crit and haste) will not change. There may also be tertiary stats on gear, such as +run speed, or -durability damage.
