Sengoku Basara video strategically retreats from reality
The latest character to be revealed in Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes has us thankful for Capcom's liberal use of creative license. In the game, Otani Yoshitsugu is a sort of mystic shrouded by bandages, who floats magically through the air as he attacks with a ring of flying projectiles. In real life, he had leprosy. After the break, see the fictionalized Yoshitsugu and a similarly embellished version of Mori Motonari, who -- we're pretty sure -- didn't have a giant metal Hula Hoop in real life. Sengoku Basara anime available for online streaming
Wondering what all this Sengoku Basara stuff is about? We've certainly heard questions to the effect of "Sengoku Ba-whatnow?" a few times since the TGS announcement of the of the Wii/PS3 brawler. Funimation is licensing the popular anime show that ties into the game, and has posted the first two episodes online for free. If your curious, let that act as your introduction to the fictionalized version of Japan's Warring States period and its youthful, attractive reinterpretations of the country's most famous warlords. You don't really need much background, historical or pseudo-historical, to play the game, but it might be nice to know who these dudes are, and who those other dudes are who are being killed by said dudes. Okamiden in North America in 2011; Ghost Trick and Sengoku Basara in 2010
We may have had clues about a localized version of Okamiden, but that doesn't mean we aren't thrilled to see it officially announced. Capcom's DS sequel to Okami will be available for Nintendo DS in North America sometime in 2011. The trailer above relates the story, in which a very cute wolf god named Chibiterasu teams up with a new cast of characters to restore color to the world once again. Of course, the Celestial Brush item is back, allowing you to paint directly onto the world with the DS stylus. After the break, you can see some gameplay footage. Also after the break are new trailers and screens for Ghost Trick on DS (now Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective) and Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes for Wii and PS3. Ghost Trick, an intriguing puzzle adventure about a dead man possessing the environment to solve his own murder and prevent others, has been given a winter 2010 date. Sengoku Basara, known in Japan as the latest game in the action series that spawned a popular anime and a Japanese history craze (and known in America, to a few people with good memories, as the latest sequel to Devil Kings) is currently classified as "TBD 2010." %Gallery-91176%
Sengoku Basara rocks the vote in Japan
To raise awareness about its upcoming gubernatorial election, Japan's Miyagi Prefecture is launching an ad campaign featuring Edo-era samurai Date Masamune. Oh, not the real one -- the one from Capcom's Sengoku Basara. Through "TV ads, radio, newspapers, and transportation agencies," the fictionalized video game version of the long-dead daimyo will encourage young residents to get out the vote ... even though power and land was inherited in the real sengoku period during which the real Date lived. In addition, the websites for Shiroishi City, Kochi Prefecture, Kochi City, and Sengoku Basara will post messages encouraging tourism to the homelands of the real historical figures who inspired the game. Why all the fuss? When the first game was released Stateside as Devil Kings, nothing really came of it; however, in Japan, the Sengoku Basara series and its associated anime have been popular enough to reignite interest in the real sengoku period among "otaku tourists." With Capcom launching Sengoku Basara 3 in North America next year, we could be seeing Masamune's smirking face on our own campaign posters soon enough.
TGS 2009: Capcom bringing Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes and Ghost Trick to NA, Europe
A deluge of Capcom media arrived from the Tokyo Game Show today -- so much, in fact, that we nearly forgot to tell you the Japanese publisher announced intentions to bring Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes and Ghost Trick to North America and Europe in 2010. Traditionally, the Sengoku Basara series (think Dynasty Warriors, but from Capcom) hasn't been published outside of Japan, but with the game's third installment Capcom has decided to bring the game worldwide for the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii (thrilling trailer above). While we don't have any video for Ghost Trick (there are screens below), we know it comes from the same folks who worked on Capcom's Ace Attorney series. Apparently players will be controlling the ghost of a recently passed gentleman, piecing together clues to solve his own murder. That's some trick, you crazy ghost! Capcom's mystery game is Sengoku Basara 3
Capcom's latest teaser site, which was last showing the number 1600, was generally believed (and hoped) to be leading up to the announcement of a new Onimusha game. However, the game being teased is actually a new entry in Capcom's other action series starring fictionalized versions of real feudal Japanese warlords: Sengoku Basara, (barely) better known here as Devil Kings -- a series which features Onimusha's bad guy Oda Nobunaga as the protagonist and title character.No platforms or really any other information were revealed about Sengoku Basara 3, other than the logo, two character silhouettes, and a 2010 date. Previous Sengoku Basara games have been released on PS2, PSP, and Wii (along with an arcade-based 2D fighting spinoff).The series isn't that well-known in North America, but in Japan, its popularity (and the sudden popularity of actual Japanese history) is boosted by the tie-in anime series.
Sengoku Basara Battle Heroes trailer shows more hack 'n slash action
Download to PSP Take a good look at this trailer. It may look like a Koei. Heck, it may even sound like a Koei game, but nope -- this hack 'n slash game is made by Capcom. This ad-hoc enhanced multiplayer fighter encourages team play. But watch out, if you're stuck with someone that particularly sucks at the game, you will be penalized.
Two new PSP games revealed in latest Famitsu
All right, we've got two new games from two different companies. First up is Koei's Musou Orochi: Maou Sairin (Warriors Orochi 2) which is probably one of those "new" titles Koei has been talking about recently. It's a port of the PS2 game which will be out later this month in North America. The PSP port is scheduled for Japan this November with new characters and ad hoc multiplayer.The second title is Capcom's Sengoku Basara: Battle Heroes. The series has never left done poorly outside Asia, so we're not banking on this one getting localized. Battle Heroes has 2-on-2 battles and 4-player ad hoc. Battle Heroes is scheduled for Spring 2009 in Japan.Are you sensing a pattern in Japanese PSP development? Notice how all games now seem to be touting the multiplayer co-op ad hoc? Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes screens and extended trailer
If your video gaming interests lie in seeing thousands of generic soldiers sent to their slaughter, we've got just the video for you! Capcom put out a three-minute trailer for its Samurai/Dynasty Warriors-styled title, Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes (Devil Kings 2 Heroes), splicing the carnage-filled clips with a few animated cutscenes. As you'd expect, there's a showcase of ridiculous special moves, one of them involving a warlord summoning some sort of robot in samurai gear to shoot missles at all the blundering conscripts. Sharpen your sword and bring it past the post break for the full video.We also have a gallery of stills for you to look through! Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes hits the Wii and PS2 in Japan this November 29th, but localization plans have yet to be announced for the US.
