You'll have to forgive us for missing this launch a few days back, but really, is anyone too amped about this thing? Samsung's SGH-A517 flip looks like a 3G handset, but that's as far as it goes -- it's actually nothing more than a quadband EDGE piece with a meager 1.3 megapixel cam to do the shootin' duties. On the upside, the A517 still features A2DP, a microSD slot, and external music controls, making it a great choice for mobile music on the cheap. Grab it now for $50 on contract after rebates.[Via MobileBurn]

  • Samsung shows A517 for AT&T, T639 for T-Mobile -- both sans 3G

The A127 is about the least exciting reveal Samsung could've possibly undertook, but it turns out they loosed a couple others at the same time with a little more meat to 'em. The SGH-T639 for T-Mobile looks like a fitting big sib to the Stripe, offering Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel camera, 220 x 176 primary display, changeable faceplates, and microSD expansion with 30MB on board -- all curiously without any mention of that beloved AWS band WCDMA we (and the FCC) heard this phone would rock. The SGH-A517 for AT&T looks like yet another 3G offering from Samsung for the carrier -- but appearance is as far as it goes. It's actually just a quadband EDGE handset (despite what we'd previously heard) with a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and a 220 x 176 display -- pretty much the same spec sheet as the T639, in fact. It's available now in Radio Shack stores for $50 on a two-year contract with availability directly from AT&T in the coming weeks.[Via Phone Scoop]Read - SGH-T639Read - SGH-A517

  • Samsung readies A517 for AT&T, T539 for T-Mobile

A tipster has slipped us details on a couple upcoming models destined for US shores out of Samsung -- not to say that's even remotely out of the ordinary -- but in this case, one's 3G (which always catches our attention) and one's... well, funny looking. First up is the A517, yet another midrange 3G flip for AT&T that rocks UMTS, a 1.3 megapixel cam, a microSD slot, and music support along with touch-sensitive controls underneath the front side's reflective surface. Meanwhile the T539 for T-Mobile smacks of the E236 -- complete with that crazy green ring up top -- featuring quadband GSM, a 1.3 megapixel cam, and 220 x 176 display. No word on release date or pricing just yet.[Thanks, tuolumne]
