In these green times, companies are looking everywhere to make a buck -- er, save the planet. Philips Simplicity didn't go much further than the sidewalk to find inspiration for its latest eco-friendly innovation, the Light Blossom, a self-sustainable street lamp that has triple-duty petals. They're peppered with energy-efficient LEDs to illuminate the street, naturally, but also have solar panels on top and can spin around in a stiff breeze to recharge. At night they'll emit a soft glow, intended to cut down on light pollution, but will grow brighter whenever a pedestrian comes by. It all sounds wonderfully efficient, but with lights popping on and off as you go, it could make that late-night walk of shame a little more conspicuous than you might like.

Philips' regular Simplicity Events have never seen a shortage of futuriffic concept devices in the past, and this week's event in London looks to be no exception, with it focusing on health and wellness in particular. Among the concepts on display is a 'Celebrating Pregnancy' scenario which, among other things, consists of a so-called "Presentation Bump" that allows for "4-D Baby Visualization", and a seat with an integrated scanning belt that enables "fast, hygienic scanning." Other concepts include an 'Ambient Healing Space' for patients recovering in the hospital, which includes a body sensing blanket that replaces other monitoring devices, along with a HeartStart portable heart monitor and resuscitation device, a whole 'Care for Guests' scenario, and even a newfangled espresso machine and a juicer/blender. Philips is currently demoing various concept products at its Simplicity Event 2006 expo this week in London, some of which may or may not see the light of day. Among our favorites that we've spotted are the new Drag Draw (pictured above), a new light-emitting pen that will let you make crazy illustrations on any surface, so you can unleash that fantasy of scribbling up your bedroom wall -- without doing any permanent damage. Our next favorite is the Versa Tiles (pictured on next page), a series of moveable hexagonal tiles to lay down on a floor that creates a game that is basically Dance Dance Revolution meets Simon. Finally, to round out the trio are a pair of spherical weights (also pictured after the break) that glow pink and include athletic sensors that monitors your workout progress. No word on if we'll ever actually see any of these, but if Philips wanted to oblige us, we'd be happy to take on challengers for Versa Tiles at the next Engadget reader meetup.[Photos courtesy of GadgetCentre]
