Come October 28, PlayStation 4 owners will have the opportunity to download a new version of SingStar, specially crafted for Sony's latest console. According to the PlayStation.blog, this version of the rhythm game hit will feature all of the content available on the PlayStation 3 incarnation of SingStar, including access to the DLC music repository known as the SingStore. Like the PS3 game, individual songs are priced at $1.49 while five-song packs can be purchased for $6. Happily, any music you've downloaded from the SingStore or PSN for the PlayStation 3 version of SingStar will automatically transfer to the PlayStation 4 game. But what if you don't have a microphone to sing into? How will your PlayStation 4 judge your off-key warbling? Don't worry, Sony's got you covered. A free SingStar companion app called "SingStar Mic" will reach iOS and Android alongside the PlayStation 4 launch of SingStar. Not only will the app allow users to create custom playlists on the fly, it will also transform your tablet or smartphone into a viable wireless microphone for the game. [Image: Sony]

  • Sony reveals SingStar Viewer application for PS3

Though SingStar may not possess the massive community base of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, Sony recently unveiled a PS3 application which offers a great deal of social networking capabilities to the karaoke game's players. Titled SingStar Viewer, the app (which appears under the Games folder of the XMB) allows users to browse and purchase songs from the SingStore, as well as view and vote on videos, photos and profiles uploaded by members of the MySingStarOnline community. This impressive functionality is totally free, and accessible even when the SingStar disc is absent from the PS3's drive. The PlayStation.Blog post, which announced the software, didn't give a firm release date for the app, but suggested you "check the PlayStation Store over the coming weeks." Check out the video after the jump to get a brief demo of the services offered by the application. Then wonder if you're confident enough in your karaoke chops to place videos of you and your friends singing in front of the cruel, cruel internet.

The SingStar servers were recently brought down to allow a smooth transition for the game's next big update. Try not to get to frazzled by the downtime -- according to a recent post on Playstation.Blog, this update includes the long-awaited fix for the rhythm title's unfortunate knack for erasing the user's purchased tracks. A handful of other changes to the SingStore and the game's online community will also be introduced in the patch. The full list of these additions can be found after the jump. The blog post also announced that the franchise recently hit a fairly brag-worthy milestone: SingStar games have sold over 20 million units worldwide. That's right -- at least 20 million shrill karaoke covers of "Careless Whisper" have pierced the night around the globe. That kind of noise pollution is just unthinkable.

Brace your faces, karaoke fans -- SingStar's US store has added even more content to help you sing the night away. This week the US SingStore has added a Blondie song pack comprised of five hits from the 70s-80s phenom as well as individual Coldplay tracks, originally released together as a package a few months ago.The store is also adding a few international flavors with tracks from (the awesome) Los Delinquentes with fellow Spanish star Bebe and Portugal's ironically named (because he's totally not a giant) Sir Giant. Full track listing can be found after the break.

Music from Universal's catalog is headed to the SingStar's European SingStore. According to Eurogamer, Sony has signed a deal with Universal (UMG), which will release its first content on August 8. As an early reward, Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" was released yesterday due to "popular demand" from fans of the karaoke game. A listing of tracks for wannabe European pop stars can be found after the break -- and yes, to quell any fears, Tiffany is on the list.

One of the great things about the new European PlayStation Blog is that we'll now be alerted to SingStar updates as and when they happen. Handy that. A lot easier than searching for our game disc, plugging in our mics and loading up the SingStore every two weeks, that's for sure.Today's update is quite an eclectic mix, with a few interesting highlights. You can check out the full list out of the break. As for our picks of the fortnight, we're suckers for a bit of Evanescence. Some Gorillaz is always welcome too, even if we are completely rubbish at the rapping bits in "Feel Good Inc."

SingStar director Dave Raynard revealed to Eurogamer that some adjustments will be made to the SingStar franchise, namely the addition of something called "SingStar Extras" and all-new gameplay features. SingStar Extras isn't a game, but a new section in the SingStore where users can purchase paid or free "features." He hasn't detailed what these new features are, but he says they will most likely be revealed at E3 in June. A voice control option will be coming to the series via SingStar Pop Edition later this month. What other unannounced features could SCEE be working on?

Sony has revealed the disturbing list of top SingStar tracks downloaded from the SingStore. The Guardian is clearly of the same mindset as us when it speculates that only the impulsive purchases of those coming home after a long night of drinking at the pub can explain this list:10. "American Pie" - Don McLean9. "Baby One More Time" - Britney Spears8. "Take On Me" - A-ha7. "Eye Of The Tiger" - Survivor6. "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" - Cyndi Lauper5. "Torn" - Natalie Imbruglia4. "Suspicious Minds" - Elvis Presley3. "Just Like A Pill" - P!nk2. "Final Countdown" - Europe1. "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" - Bonnie TylerSince the launch of the SingStore, four million songs have been purchased from the service. A majority of these tracks are from the '80s, with the artists split across genders. We're just stuck on "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in the top spot -- really!?

Oh, yeah. SingStar. Looks like SCEA may not have forgotten about that game either. It's easy to lose faith when games like Rock Band, Guitar Hero and even Karaoke Revolution, offer regular updates -- but no new news gets released about Sony's music game. According to a new post on the PlayStation.blog, US fans of the singing game can look forward to over 60 songs to be released over "the next few months." (Not too specific, we know.) Hopefully, this is a sign that regular content will start hitting the SingStore. You can only sing Buddy Holly for so long before you want some new music to play with.In other SingStar news, it looks like the game will be patched to support PS2 disc swapping. Let's say you have SingStar 90s (PS2). Just boot up your PS3 SingStar. When you hit Select on the Song Select screen, you'll be able to insert the PS2 disc into your system. Voila! You have access to all the content of SingStar 90s. This feature will work on any PS3 system (even those without backwards compatibility). The patch will be available by Christmas.

  • SingStar Queen song packs coming to the EU SingStore tomorrow

    10.01.2008

Sony has announced that the first two SingStar SongPacks will be released onto the SingStore tomorrow. We would've liked to have seen SongPacks appear a little sooner, considering the game's been out almost a year, but considering the content of the first batch, we're not going to complain too much. The first two packs will contain classic Queen tunes, with each pack costing £4.49 (sorry, no € price yet) and containing 5 songs. Check out the track lists for each SongPack after the breakIt seems these SongPacks will be a regular occurrence, as the press release states that more will be appearing every two weeks. We're not sure whether this means they'll replace the fortnightly update, or arrive alongside it. There's also no word on whether these tunes will be coming to America. Hopefully we'll get back to you when we know.

Sorry this post is a bit late but SingStar has been, quite frankly, the last thing on our mind over the last day or say. Regardless, the SingStore has been updated with another eclectic collection of songs -- most of which we've never heard of. Business as usual, then. Again, Europe has bragging rights over the number of new tracks when compared to America. That's 25 versus 16 this week, for those keeping score at home. From the looks of things, Americans aren't missing out on much this week except, sadly, another Queen song. Check after the break for the full release list; tracks are available in Europe only, unless stated otherwise.

Plenty of new songs for you Singaholics today in the latest SingStar SingStore update. We're happy to finally see Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" on the list, not to mention our surprise at the inclusion of The Dandy Warhol's "We Used To Be Friends." There's plenty more to see after the break in the full list of releases. Unfortunately, it seems that the American SingStore has fewer new songs than are available in Europe. Unless stated otherwise all songs in the following list are on the European SingStore only. Which ones will you be buying today?

If your vocal chords simply can't get enough exercise from singing stuff on SingStar, you might love to know what's new on their SingStore. We'll list the songs in English below, but if you're interested in other languages, we'll add those after the cut. This is a good update for those who love ... uh ... Avril Lavigne? It's a fairly varied batch of choices, so watch your wallets carefully. Avril Lavigne - Complicated Peabo Bryson & Roberta Flack - Tonight I Celebrate My Love Good Charlotte - I Just Wanna Live The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations Shocking Blue - Venus Golden Earring - Radar Love The Hives - Hate To Say I Told You So Hard-Fi - Hard To Beat Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending Erik Faber - Not Over Cutting Crew - (I Just) Died In Your Arms R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts Wilson Phillips - Hold On Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You shouldn't've)? Alphabeat - Fantastic 6 The Vines - Get Free Roy Orbison - Only The Lonely (Know The Way I Feel) Westlife - Queen Of My Heart The Hoosiers - Cops N Robbers Coldplay - Shiver Coldplay - The Scientist Duran Duran - The Reflex Moloko - Sing It Back Aslan - This Is As we said before, songs from other lands or in other languages are after the cut. It would probably be fun to try them out at least once ... of course, it would be an easier choice to make if they were free.
