Did anyone else think that Sony would have finally killed off the UMD movie for real by now? Guess again, suckers. The company just spilled some more details on that Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines PSP Entertainment Pack, and in addition to that sexy white PSP-3000 and 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, your $199 will get you an as-yet-unnamed feature film on UMD. Yes, even as Sony tip-toes into the future with the PSPgo, it's still trying to peddle movies on a garbage proprietary format no one ever really wanted and that most studios have stopped supporting. Old habits die hard, we suppose. Video after the break.

We've got all ideas that this tidbit won't infuriate too many users, but nevertheless, Sony will reportedly not be bringing S-Video cables to America for its PSP Slim. According to GameInformer, Sony wanted to "streamline its selection, giving owners a choice between cables supporting composite, the de facto standard, and component inputs." Interestingly, both of the cables that will be for sale here will cost the same $19.99, and if you're somehow still using a television that rocks an array of S-Video ports but not a single component input, the import option is always there.[Via PSPFanboy]

It didn't take long after the release of Sony's slim PSP in Europe for some over-anxious individual to get inside of his new handheld, and while dissection pictures are always a treat in and of themselves, this splaying led to an unexpected discovery. After inspecting the motherboard and comparing it to boards from prior (read: not slim) PSPs, it was reported that the newest iteration features "66MB of NAND memory including spare data," which certainly trumps the amount found in its predecessor; additionally, Mathieulh mentioned that the "idstorage area is now fully encrypted." Those patiently awaiting the slimmer PSP, codenamed PSP-2000, will probably enjoy (or be exceedingly envious) of Joystiq's hands-on with the forthcoming device, but regardless of what emotions it evokes, we're givin' it to ya straight. Hordes of readers submitted questions about the impending PSP, and nothing provides the answers like a good bit of time handling the actual unit in question. So go on, tag the read link to catch an early glimpse of the PSP Lite, and who knows, maybe one or two of your own burning questions will be addressed, too.

While it's not too terribly surprising that the forthcoming PSP's price was outed in Japanese yen first (not to mention those coveted extra hues they'll get), it is somewhat curious to hear that Europe scored the details before that other country. Nevertheless, Sony's David Reeves reportedly stated at a SCEE event at E3 that the slimmer PSP would "come out at €169 ($233) in all the PAL territories at the beginning of September," so we're going on pure assumption here that this will include the likes of Australia, too. Hey, we're really sorry about snatching Beckham and all, but at least you blokes (and dames) know when to hunt down the refreshed PSP, right?

Just in case a few hands-on photos, dissection slides, and FCC documentation weren't enough to satisfy your desire for slim PSP details, how's about a launch date and price -- in Japan. Yes, we know the rest of the world is now immediately envious, but hey, it's a start. According to Reuters, Sony will launch its trimmed down PlayStation Portable on September 20th in the Japanese market, and it plans on listing it for ¥19,800 ($162). Per usual, North Americans (and beyond) will be forced to sit patiently and await the news for their own nation, but if you're eager, now you know exactly when to book that plane ticket to Tokyo.[Via Computers and Video Games]

The fine folks in the federal government have had their chance to poke at the new slim PSP, and it looks like the new model, which Sony is calling the "PSP-2001," has passed its FCC inspection. No big surprises in the filing, although it looks like the PSP Jr. will only be able to output game video via component, while UMD and Memory Stick movies get composite output as well. Other than that, the PSP 1.1 seems ready to go -- those of you too anxious to wait until September can hit the read link for the full FCC file.
