  • PlayStation 3 could get 3D depth slider à la the 3DS

How will sir be having his gimmick today? The devs behind the upcoming Sly Cooper 3D compilation are wisely mulling over the idea of inserting a 3D-adjusting slider to let users decide just how much stereoscopy they want with their Sony-approved gaming. It's argued that this should allow you greater positional flexibility when smacking fools down in three dimensions, as you'll be able to manually toggle the depth of the 3D effect to suit your viewing angle. We were happy to see such an option introduced in the Nintendo 3DS at E3 and would similarly welcome its inclusion on the PS3 -- though that's no foregone conclusion as yet. All we can say for sure right now is that the stuff is adjustable, but it looks like it'll be up to devs to roll their sleeves up and integrate the slider into their games. Hey, it's the summer, not like they've got anything else to do, right?

In case you missed it at E3, all three of the Sly Cooper games from PlayStation 2 are being remastered in high definition (and in the case of the third game, 3D), and as you can see we've got a few comparison pictures from the Playstation Blog. Since original developer Sucker Punch has moved on to other thing like inFAMOUS, the conversion is being handled by Sanzaru Games (with some help from the original high res texture maps and art assets), and from the looks of things the transition to higher res and widescreen is going well. Head over to the blog for a better look or check out Joystiq for their hands on -- everyone else has to wait for the updated games to be released in November.

Our frothing demand for this game increases.* After all, the Sly Cooper series offered some of the prettiest and most fun experiences on PS2. So when Sucker Punch – the folks behind the raccoon – makes an open-world game with super powers and drool-worthy looks, we're all over it. The UK's semi-official PS3 blog, Three Speech, got its digi-mitts on three new screens from inFAMOUS, which, according to the site, will be keeping GameStop employees asking if we want to pre-order it until ... 2009. Still, we'll also surely be seeing more of the game next month at E3. We'd better. Or ... or ... our frothing demand for this game will probably stay just about the same. *Thanks to IGN for the use of their Ikaruga (GCN) box cover quote to kick off this post. %Gallery-26262%

With GTA IV going to Xbox 360 as well, Sony's itching for some exclusive sandbox action for their Playstation 3. Enter Infamous, a new open-ended action/exploration game from Suckerpunch, the developers of the Sly Cooper games. Phil Harrison, COO of Sony Computer Entertainment, introduced the game at Sony's E3 2007 keynote, showing what appeared to be in-game footage of a main character using numerous superpowers. An odd blur of City of Heroes and Crackdown, players will determine whether they want their characters to become heroes or villains in the course of gameplay, with supposedly different powers and missions as a result. Very little is known about Infamous at the moment, and with no rough release date mentioned, the game is presumed to be in the early development stages.

Do you want to share your PSP-related fan art? Send us an e-mail. A new piece of fan art will be shared every Friday. In honor of the truly excellent announcement regarding Sly Cooper hitting PSP, we have this fan art of the thieving raccoon himself. This lovely and moody piece was done by Neyla. It features Sly thieving across Paris, as the bright shine of a full moon glistens in the background. Neyla says that she was trying to capture the Japanese version of Sly, which is slightly redesigned. If this fan art makes you excited to get your crook on, visit Neyla's deviantART page. She has done plenty of other great game fan art besides, so browsing her gallery should interest you. Either that, or let Neyla know what you think of the art in our comments section. %Gallery-3450%

  • Sly Cooper 4 coming to the PS3, apparently

Who remembers playing a game with a handicapped turtle, a sneaky raccoon, a giant hippo ... did we mention a turtle in a wheelchair? Yes, boys and girls, Sly 3 was a pretty funny game. What separates the Sly Cooper series from a lot of other franchises is that the characters build from previous games -- after an unfortunate accident at the end of the second game, Bentley is stuck in a wheelchair and you actually get to take control of the new and improved character in the next game. Stuff like that is hard to come by and really makes a title stand out. That is why when we heard a Sly 4 was coming to the PlayStation 3, we nodded our heads in praise and continued to eat Combos. Delicious and disgusting at the same time. Speaking of "at the same time," a PSP game with the Sly name will be released simultaneously with the PS3 game and the two will feature some sort of connectivity. In any case, the developers have issued this statement regarding their ambitions for the PS3 game: "the graphics have been majorly overhauled and the gameplay will be more varied and focused this time around. We're aiming for a fully interactive 3D world, with no loads and seamless interaction between settings and characters." We're looking forward to sneaking around and smacking people with giant wooden rods![via Joystiq]

Two new Sly Coopers are coming out for the PSP and the PlayStation 3, PSM reports. The games will feature connectivity with one another and will be released simultaneously, but it is unknown just how that will work.Sly Cooper 4, the PS3 title, will be shown at the upcoming Min-E3. Concerning the console version, the developers said that "the graphics have been majorly overhauled and the gameplay will be more varied and focused this time around. We're aiming for a fully interactive 3D world, with no loads and seamless interaction between settings and characters."The Sly Cooper series has always delivered a fun and satisfying experience, but unfortunately we think it's been stuck in the shadows of higher-profile Sony platform stars Ratchet, Clank, Jak and Daxter. Perhaps Sly can sneak his way into the spotlight this time.

Have the latest issue of PSM? Neither do we. However, PSX Extreme is reporting that the latest issue has an interview with Sucker Punch, the developers behind the popular Sly Cooper series of games. In the interview, the developers mention that two new Sly Cooper games were coming out: one for PSP, and one for PS3.The two titles are supposed to launch simultaneously, with PS3-PSP connectivity available from the get-go. The games will be unveiled at mini-E3 later this year in Santa Monica -- and we'll be there to find out more.
