Just in time for everyone's favorite pumpkin-related holiday, Ubisoft has announced the addition of five Smashing Pumpkins tracks to Rocksmith 2014. Included in the pack are five of the band's biggest, mid-90s singles. "Today" and "Disarm" originally appeared on 1993's Siamese Dream, while "Tonight, Tonight," "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" and "1979" hail from 1995's Melon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. These songs join "Cherub Rock," another cut from Siamese Dream already featured in Rocksmith 2014. The Smashing Pumpkins DLC pack is currently available for download from either the Xbox Live Marketplace or Steam. A PlayStation 3 iteration of the DLC is due on November 6. Each song can be purchased individually at $3 a piece, though if you pick up all five new tracks at once you'll only spend $12.

  • Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan says iTunes, Facebook "killing rock"

Have you ever heard of the old adage about the dog that bites the hand that feeds it? Someone should share that age-old wisdom with Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. Speaking to the Antiquiet, Corgan laments the pacification of the current generation of musicians who are happy to cuddle up with iTunes and not kick in their own door by embracing a movement and doing something radical like Nirvana or the Clash. Corgan also blasts Facebook and says it stifles free thought because musicians are weary of dealing with all the negative comments. "You've got a Facebook with a few hundred friends. If you do something truly radical, are you ready to withstand the forty negative comments?," Corgan asks. "Most people aren't. So they're getting peer pressured at levels they don't even realize," he adds. Ironically, his comments, come at a time when his long-absent band launches a comeback album that's featured on the iTunes Store and available for free streaming before its official release.

If that's not the longest-titled event we've attended, then we're not sure what is. (Although you're in trouble, Guitar Hero, if the Japanese game Tohoku Daigaku Mirai-Kagaku-Gijutsu-Kyodo-Kenkyu-Center Kawashima Ryuta Kyoju Kanshu: Motto Nou wo Kitaeru Otona no DS Training ever has a launch party.)We were inside the midnight sale / launch party at Best Buy in West Hollywood last night, where DJ Jazzy Jeff opened for the Smashing Pumpkins. Several bands were in attendance, along with the requisite roundup of actors and actresses from the Hollywood alphabet list. Head after the break for highlights and a full rundown.%Gallery-35402%

Actiblizzion has announced that '90s fixture the Smashing Pumpkins have recorded a new song, "G.L.O.W." specifically for release as a Guitar Hero: World Tour download, marking the first time a new song has debuted in a music game under those specific circumstances. The track, which will be included on an album later, will be released as part of a three-song DLC pack, along with "1979" and "The Everlasting Gaze." The first in-concert performance of the new song is above, thanks to some dude who took a camera to a Pumpkins show! The deal isn't just for DLC, however: Billy Corgan will appear in-game -- and as a playable character in career mode, even -- and the wonderful "Today" will be included on the disc. We hope it introduces the Pumpkins to some of the youngsters who may be surprised to learn that a long time ago, guitars had strings on them and could be used to play any song.%Gallery-23491%

We'll be sure to remind you of the DLC with our Rock Band Weekly posts over the next couple Mondays.[Update: Looks like someone at Microsoft jumped the gun on the announcement a little bit and they've pulled everything that hadn't been announced already (they neglected to update their intro paragraph though). Never fear, former Joystiqer Jared Rea linked us to a screenshot on his blog to cast away any lingering doubts as to the one-time existence of the information. Behold!]

The EP will be called "American Gothic" and will include "The Rose March", "Pox", "Again, Again, Again (the Crux)", and "Sunkissed". iTunes management apparently approached the band, who agreed to put together this exclusive offering between regular albums.
