We're still a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/15/dynamic-eye-lcd-sunglasses-blot-out-the-sun-not-the-rest-of-you/">few years away</a> from getting some consumer-friendly LCD sunglasses, but wouldn't you know it the military's already rocking a pair. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/officeofnavalresearch">Office of Naval Research</a> TechSolutions department has delivered the first 30 sets of what it calls Fast-Tint Protective Eyewear (FTPE). They can change tint automatically based on exterior light, much like currently available prescription glasses, but thanks to their LCD construction can go from dark to clear in just a half-second. This means a SEAL squad could blow a door and infiltrate a room without having to ask the terrorists to hold their fire while everyone takes off their shades. Initial reports are good and SOCOM is planning on buying another 100 sets. <strike>Maybe by the time they're delivered someone will release a picture of the things and we won't have to use a random photo of camouflage shades like this one.</strike><br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: Travis wrote in with a link to <a href="http://jamesvaughanphoto.blogspot.com/2010/12/law-enforcement.html">James Vaughan Photography</a>, which has a few photos of prototype versions of these glasses. We've grabbed one.<br />

The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/PlayStationMove/">PlayStation Move</a>. It's funny to think just 15 months have passed since Sony <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/02/sony-announces-new-ps3-motion-controller/">first unveiled</a> its motion controller, and now we're mere weeks away from hitting the retail market. To be sure, it's not like the company didn't have waggle on the mind already -- <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/07/sony-patents-its-own-version-of-the-wiimote-and-sensor-bar/">patents</a> dating as far back as 2005 reveal as much, and of course the incredible success of Nintendo's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Wii/">Wii</a> proved there's a market for more physically exerting gameplay. And it's not just PlayStation; Microsoft's got its controller-free <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Kinect/">Kinect</a> motion camera system coming this November. So, in the year where all major game consoles now ask you to get off the couch and earn arm muscle, how does Move fare? Read on for more! <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/playstation-move-review/">PlayStation Move review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/playstation-move-review/#3315942"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/ps-move-review-2010-08-3013-31-02-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/playstation-move-review/#3315943"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/ps-move-review-2010-08-3013-31-26-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/playstation-move-review/#3315945"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/ps-move-review-2010-08-3013-31-52-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/playstation-move-review/#3315946"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/ps-move-review-2010-08-3013-34-10-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/playstation-move-review/#3315947"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/ps-move-review-2010-08-3013-34-29-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/01/playstation-move-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PlayStation Move review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/01/playstation-move-review/">PlayStation Move review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 01 Sep 2010 03:01:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Sony's already taken a pretty big shot at the used game market with the download-only <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/pspgo">PSP Go</a>, and it looks like it might now be going some way towards taking physical media out of the equation as well. In what's described as a "trial run," Sony has added a new authentication measure to SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3 for the PSP that will require gamers to first register their game on PSN before they play online. Once that's done, you won't be able to use the UMD on another PSN account, and anyone buying a used copy of the game will have to shell out $20 for an additional voucher to play online. According to Sony, that's being done primarily to combat piracy, but there's no getting around the fact that it also makes used copies of the game a whole lot less attractive to potential buyers. No word on any future games that will employ similar measures, though we wouldn't count on Sony giving up on this one too quickly.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/18/sony-tries-out-new-anti-piracy-measure-with-psp-game-hits-used/">Sony tries out new anti-piracy measure with PSP game, hits used game market hard in the process</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 18 Feb 2010 16:11:00 EST. The device will be launching this fall as part of the <em>SOCOM: Confrontation</em> bundle for $59.99, or if you just loathe the whole <em>SOCOM</em> series, you can pick it up all by its lonesome for $49.99. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan just got official with its PlayStation-branded <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/socom">SOCOM</a> Bluetooth headset (model CEJH-15002) we've seen bouncing around since June. Set for a &yen;5,000 (about $46 tax inclusive) release on October 30th in Japan along side SOCOM:CONFRONTATION, the Bluetooth 2.1+EDR headset with noise cancellation will automatically pair with your PS3, making it ready for games supporting on-line chat like SOCOM and Resistance 2 coming November 13th. The bundled USB cradle will charge the headset for up to 8-hours of voice. As a bonus, when used with the PS3 you'll be treated to on-screen indicators showing your connection status, battery charge and speaker levels and microphone mute status all at the push of a button. And for those of you wondering, yes, it should pair just fine with your cellphone since it supports both the HSP and HFP Bluetooth profiles.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-ps3-bluetooth-headset-get-official/">Sony's SOCOM PS3 Bluetooth headset get official</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-ps3-bluetooth-headset-get-official/#1012894"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/09/headset_ê≥ñ éœçfl_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-ps3-bluetooth-headset-get-official/#1012895"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/09/headset_ê≥ñ _thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-ps3-bluetooth-headset-get-official/#1012896"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/09/headset_îwñ éœçfl_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-ps3-bluetooth-headset-get-official/#1012897"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/09/headsetcradle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-ps3-bluetooth-headset-get-official/#1012903"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/09/headset_cejh-15002_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://www.i4u.com/article20061.html">I4U</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gaming/" rel="tag">Gaming</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/wireless/" rel="tag">Wireless</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/02/sonys-socom-ps3-bluetooth-headset-get-official/">Sony's SOCOM PS3 Bluetooth headset gets official</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 02 Sep 2008 07:28:00 EST. Remember that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/27/playstation-branded-socom-bluetooth-headset-revealed/">PlayStation-branded SOCOM Bluetooth headset</a> we told you about a while ago? Not surprisingly, it's for real, and we spotted it in Sony's booth alongside <em>SOCOM Confrontation </em><a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/e3">here at E3</a>. It looks to be a relatively nice unit, a bit bigger than your standard Bluetooth headset intended for phones, and the USB charger it comes with is clearly intended to hang out with your PS3. Sony points out that the headset sports a giant mute button for your in-game arguments with significant others, and battery time is promised to be "exceptional." They wouldn't tell us exactly <em>how</em> exceptional, but we'll believe them for now. Finally, they did confirm that you'll be able to pair this with your cellphone in case you want to show off your SOCOM love while away from your living room.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-bluetooth-headset/">Sony's SOCOM Bluetooth Headset</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-bluetooth-headset/#927075"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/socom_bt_gal1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-bluetooth-headset/#927077"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/socom_bt_gal6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-bluetooth-headset/#927078"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/socom_bt_gal4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-bluetooth-headset/#927074"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/socom_bt_gal7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-socom-bluetooth-headset/#927076"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/07/socom_bt_gal5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gaming/" rel="tag">Gaming</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/16/playstation-branded-socom-bluetooth-headset-spotted-touched-pi/">PlayStation-branded SOCOM Bluetooth headset spotted, touched, pictured</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 16:12:00 EST. Now that you've already picked up one of those <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/14/metal-gear-solid-4-gets-its-own-bluetooth-headset/">Metal Gear Solid 4 headsets</a>, what on Earth are you to do with another? We're hearing that the Blu-ray retail version of <em>SOCOM Confrontation</em> will indeed include a Bluetooth headset, and as you can clearly see above, it's a PlayStation-branded one at that. You'll also find a much needed mute button for keeping everyone else out of your whooping coughs, and a bundled USB cradle will keep it charged up when the battle subsides. As for pricing, that tidbit remains a mystery, but you can count on picking one up sans the game should you be so inclined. Head on down to the read link for a gallery of shots.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/official-ps3-bluetooth-headset-revealed-bundled-with-socom/">Joystiq</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gaming/" rel="tag">Gaming</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/27/playstation-branded-socom-bluetooth-headset-revealed/">PlayStation-branded SOCOM Bluetooth headset revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 27 Jun 2008 13:12:00 EST.
