This week wasn't the best as far as Virtual Console content goes, but we managed to still bring forth a video wrap-up on the day's games, despite our lack of enthusiasm to do so. Oh well, at least we got Sonic 3, right?

Today's Virtual Console update gifts us with our favorite 2D Sonic the Hedgehog title in the franchise: Sonic the Hedgehog 3. As for the other two titles, well ... we've not had much experience, if any, with them. But, that's the great thing about the VC. It allows us to experience titles of old we may have missed out on.Games available for download after 9am PST are: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) NES Play Action Football (NES, 1-4 players, 500 Wii Points) Neutopia II (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points) Be sure to stop back later for our video wrap-up.

Wow! Five games on the Virtual Console this week -- you guys in Europe must be doing something right. Surely everyone can find something to their tastes among these five titles ... and we know what to recommend if you're just particularly fond of getting your ass kicked over and over again while wearing naught but undies. Crack Down -- Sega Mega Drive -- 800 Wii points ESWAT: City Under Siege -- Sega Mega Drive -- 800 Wii points Ghouls 'n Ghosts -- Sega Mega Drive -- 800 Wii points Shining in the Darkness -- Sega Mega Drive -- 800 Wii points Sonic the Hedgehog 3 -- Sega Mega Drive -- 800 Wii points

You know how boxart is always better in Japan than in the US? You're looking at the counterexample. The Japanese Sonic 3 cover is arguably the worst thing to happen to the series right up until the creation of Shadow. Apparently Sega was doing their best to kill their flagship series in Japan, by throwing some Cross Colours-tinted doodles and tiled "THE MOST FAMOUS HEDGEHOG IN THE WORLD" signs on a white background and throwing it out like it's acceptable. The US box, in comparison, is spectacularly beautiful.Pretty good game, though. Other games on the list include a forgotten launch-era NES sports game and Ordyne, the adorable Namco horizontal shooter that we totally already have! This week's Japanese Virtual Console releases are: Volleyball (Famicom, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points) Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Mega Drive, 1 player, 600 Wii Points) Ordyne (PC Engine, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points)

Australia getting a Virtual Console game before anyone else? Maybe! We can't be sure when Sonic 3 and Super Mario Bros. 3 will find their way onto the VC, but at least we know they're on their way, thanks to the Office of Film and Classification. The Aussie equivalent of the ESRB keeps a database of ratings just like the ESRB does. A bunch of games have been added, including a lot that are already out in other regions, and a few, like Mario 3, that are news. Of course, the best part of this for people who don't happen to have Australian consoles is that if a game is planned for one region, it's terribly likely it'll be out soon in others! Other things on the list that make us happy: Strider (although we don't know if it's the Genesis version or the NES version), Galaga '90, and Probotector II-- which is Super C. The full list of new updates is after the break![Via Vooks]
