After having played with it back at CES, we'd argue that the Xperia Arc is a pretty stunning phone purely by virtue of its design; there's not really any need to spice it up with a crazy color. But hey, if you want to, you'll be able to -- if you're on Japan's NTT DoCoMo, anyway. The carrier has announced the Xperia Arc as the SO-01C in the local market with retail availability coming on March 24th -- right around the same time Europe should be getting it, too -- and the in-your-face "Sakura Pink" is joining Misty Silver and Midnight Blue for the launch palette. Retina damage seems inevitable in this particular segment of the visible light spectrum, but we'll admit: ultra-thin Gingerbread devices seem like a pretty good excuse to sustain said damage.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc turns pink in Japan for March 24th launch originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 27 Feb 2011 16:01:00 EST. We weren't shy about telling Sony that it ought to bring some of those NEX-3/5 color concepts from Photokina out on the market, and the Japanese manufacturer has clearly taken note. To be fair, our pining was more concerned with the white variant than this pink number, but whatever, a new hue is a new hue. Japanese lovers of small cameras with big sensors and rosé color schemes will be able to enjoy their slice of nirvana on November 19 for around ¥80,000 ($975), while the rest of the world sits and ponders the crazy price. It's no higher than the standard NEX-3 kit, mind you, which can currently be had in silver, black, or red. And if Sony Japan's scheme to conquer the female market with a lick of new paint pays off, we might see the pink camera -- along with the litany of matching accessories also introduced today -- sailing out to new shores as well. One can only hope.
Should the classy white, or the patriotic red and blue PlayStation controllers not take your fancy, Sony's rolling out another hue just for you, discerning consumer: pink! The Japanese maker of everything with an electronic pulse has a bit of a tradition with this color and it's not like the great PS3 hasn't been licked by a few strokes of red lite before. Pricing is your typical $54.99 for this wireless console commander and GameStop should have them in within a couple of weeks.
Pink DualShock 3 arriving September 21, who's manly enough to buy one? originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 10 Sep 2010 07:18:00 EST. One problem with owning a phone as diminutive as the X10 Mini (or Mini Pro) is that it's pretty hard for others to notice -- and let's be honest: what's the point in owning a sweet little Android device if no one's going to spontaneously walk up to you and compliment you on your fantastic taste in gadgets? To that end, Sony Ericsson looks to be rolling out two new rather unabashedly in-your-face shades: a shiny gold (complete with gold highlights on the front) for the Mini, and pink for the Mini Pro. As you might imagine, they're both an acquired taste, which might explain why the company will only be deploying them to "select markets" starting next month.
Sony Ericsson adds gold X10 Mini, pink Mini Pro, infinite class originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 11 Aug 2010 08:44:00 EST. ¥21,000 ($232), Japan, March 4. All of the foregoing should be irrelevant information because we're absolutely, positively, definitely sure you're not going to actually buy one. Right? Look, even if you genuinely don't object to Blossom Pink as your color scheme, and if you quite rightly find yourself attracted by the handy soft pouch for ensconcing your new PSP-3000 in, don't you care about what other people might think? And that's entirely aside from the generic and lazy expectation that women will buy anything so long as it bears a hue from the pink portion of the spectrum. Either way, this bundle of corporate greed and malevolence is coming in about a month's time, if you're weird enough to care.
Sony's announced it will support Breast Cancer Awareness month by outing two new bundles -- and both of them are super pink. The first bundle will include a Berry Pink 10.5-inch Vaio W with an Intel Atom N280 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive, plus a matching sleeve and mouse. The second bundle will include the special edition Rose Pocket Edition reader with a gold clutch case, plus download codes for four e-books. Sony has said it will donate $110,000 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation in conjunction with October sales for these bundles. The Vaio W bundle will run you $499, while the reader bundle is $199. Both can be ordered now at Sony Style.

[Via Slashgear]

Sony outs pink Vaio W, Pocket Reader bundles for Breast Cancer Awareness Month originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 02 Oct 2009 13:54:00 EST. Josh Topolsky and Paul Miller walk into a bar, but the bar is a recording studio.

The bartender, who is the recording engineer, asks, "Why the long faces?"

"Sigh," Paul says, and looks down at his feet. "Nothing but a buncha crummy phone rumors and probably fake slim PS3 pictures this week."

"It's hard to podcast when there's no exciting news to podcast about," says Josh, staring off into the distance.

The door slams open: it's Nilay Patel. "I know what'll cheer you guys up!" he says as he slams three stiff drinks down on the table. "Trashing AT&T about the Slingplayer app!"

Smiles creep over Josh and Paul's faces. They nod, the engineer hits the record button, and history is made: The Engadget Podcast, volume 146.
Not much has been said of Sony's unique W Series Walkman since its unveiling at CES this year, but now the player is on sale and available in a vivacious pink hue for all the ladies in attendance. Or fashion-forward gentlemen, whichever. At any rate, said player -- which is more formally known as the NWZ-W202 -- is expected to start shipping out as early as tomorrow, bringing with it 2GB of inbuilt storage space, support for MP3, AAC and WMA files, a battery good for a dozen hours and a three minute "quick charge" feature that provides up to 90 minutes of playback. Catch it right now in black or the aforementioned pink for $69.99.

[Via ChipChick]

Sony's wraparound W Series Walkman on sale and in pink originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 30 Mar 2009 05:19:00 EST. Up first is the 14.1-inch VGN-CR290EAP laptop (starting at $1,369.99), which features a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 200GB of hard drive space, DVD writer, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, integrated X3100 graphics, 2GB of DDR2 RAM and a slew of ports to boot. The 4GB NWZ-A816PNK Walkman ($149.95) boasts a 320 x 240 display, up to 33-hours of battery life (8-hours when playing back videos) and support for MP3, WMA, AAC, MPEG4 and M4V formats. Finally, the 8-inch DVP-FX810/P portable DVD player ($189.99) offers up a swiveling flip-screen and promises around 5.5-hours of life on a full charge. And just so you know, Sony will be donating $75, $10 and $10 (respectively) from the sale of each aforementioned gadget to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

[Via ChipChick]
Filed under: Handhelds, Laptops, Portable Audio, Portable Video

Sony paints gadgets pink, donates to breast cancer research originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 09 Oct 2007 18:12:00 EST. It's that time again. In hopes of resurrecting the, uh, hype surrounding the NW-A800 Walkman players, Sony just loosed a white and pink version of their top-end NW-A808. 8, as in 8GB of flash. Nothing new on the specs which is fine by us -- it already holds its own against the competition. On sale in Japan starting July 10th for ¥32,800 or about $267.
Filed under: Portable Audio, Portable Video

Sony's NW-808 Walkmans for powderpuffs originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 28 Jun 2007 03:48:00 EST. Here at Engadget, we know the terrible ordeal of holiday shopping you're about to face, and we only want to help through this trying time. That's why we've produced this handy guide to pretty pink PSPs, 'cause every little decision counts. So, here's the breakdown: if your sister/girlfriend/mom is skanky (and/or a Sunday Night Football fan), then buy her the P!nk Limited Edition PSP. If your sister/girlfriend/mom is not skanky, buy her the Pink PSP, and toss in Locoroco for good measure -- she deserves it. Don't thank us, we're just glad to help.
Filed under: Gaming, Handhelds, Portable Audio

Pink PSP vs. P!ink PSP, or, Classy vs. Trashy originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 04 Nov 2006 13:50:00 EST. Topping off a month full of pink gadgetry - with most items proudly supporting breast cancer research -- is Sony's own P!nk Memory Stick Micro. Contrary to popular assumption, this 512MB M2 card is actually black, but similar to its P!nk-branded PSP, is stuffed in pink colored packaging fit for a pop star, and also touts compatibility with the K790i / K800i, M600i, K610i, Z530i, Z550i and W300i Sony Ericsson mobiles. It comes bundled with a MS PRO adapter for use in one of your many flash card readers, and also sports a pre-loaded MPEG4 video interview of the artist as well as a DRM-free (albeit shortened) MP3 of "Stupid Girls." Should you just so happen to be a rabid P!nk fan, or just need a clever excuse to purchase an M2 card, the "special edition" MS-A512A should hit stores in November for an undisclosed price.

[Via ShinyShiny]

Sony unveils black P!nk-branded MS-A512A M2 memory card originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 31 Oct 2006 14:43:00 EST. Sony was a little lax about making sure we knew they were going pink with Pink on the PSP today, too, but it does indeed look like we can chalk up another color for the portable. Apparently the singer's just doing the usual sponsored / co-branded business, releasing the P!nk Limited Edition PSP with headphones, remote, 32MB Memory Stick, but what raised a couple eyebrows over yonder is the fact that she's not signed with Sony, and what's more Sony will also offering Pink downloads on their YourPSP site. Anywho, from what we understand Sony pulled the official release, so they're apparently not yet prepped to discuss the ramifications of the PSP getting femmed out even though we now know it will run you €229 or £169 when it debuts October 27th.

PSP goes pink with Pink originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 21 Aug 2006 19:55:00 EST. It's a little late in the game for you to have to justify a PS2 to your ladyfriend, and it's way late in the game if your ladyfriend is of the ilk to want a PS2 of her very own. That said, as we all know well from Motorola and their best-selling RAZR, when you're late getting your new product out the door, the thing to do is release the old product in a new color. Enter the pink PS2. We're not yet entirely sure when (or if) it's hitting US shores, but it's launching on the 8th of November over in Old Blighty. Oh, and for our gamer pals across the pond: thanks to the Leipzig Games Convention, which kicked off today, you'll see a dip in price of that PS2 as well. It'll only set you back £94.99 and €129.99 now, which doesn't help us over in the States too much, but we can't complain as our PlayStation 2s still cost significantly less. Unfortunately that price dip won't help out your purchase of pink there, which is still going to go for £129.99 (bundled with SingStar Pop), and €159.99 otherwise.

[Thanks, Steve]

The pink PS2 hits UK in November originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 21 Aug 2006 12:27:00 EST.
