Look away now if you're desperate for a beach holiday, because the above video features a Sony camera chilling out in the sand, before some lucky fella picks it up for a quick snap of the calm sea. Now, the clip doesn't actually indicate which model this camera is, but the video uploader -- with a fresh account hosting just this one video -- simply wrote "Sony Alpha A77?" in the title, along with "Taiwan" in the description. Our gut feeling tells us that this leak comes straight out of Sony's Taiwanese PR team, who's keen to show off this mysterious camera's quick autofocus in live view mode (presumably there's a translucent mirror inside to enable this), as well as its sand-friendly body. That said, the folks should really get that Zeiss lens inspected -- as pointed out by Sony Alpha Rumors, we seriously doubt it shares the same level of protection as the body. Poor thing.

Focusing on the camera again: we only get to see its back, but this alone is enough to prove that we're looking at a never-before-seen model from Sony -- while it sports a similar swivel screen as the A55's (whereas the A560 and A580 only have tilting screens), it also has a different set of buttons. In fact, said button layout is identical to that on the transparent prototype manhandled by Pocket-lint back in March! Combining these factors together, we say this A77 teaser is pretty legit. Now, how about a date and some prices for this 24 megapixel beast, Sony?

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Update: The original video's been taken down, but fear not, as we've already thrown in our backup copy. We still aren't sure what Sony's series of teaser videos for its forthcoming S1 and S2 tablets are really all about. What we do know is that we love the films' cheery soundtracks and the wondrous contraptions they showcase. This fourth spot has the now-familiar pale figurines wandering though a mechanical wonderland, with marbles whizzing overhead and bubbles floating about. Alas, like those that precede it, the latest video provides no new info on the slates Sony's shilling, but feel free to enjoy the visuals in the bit of esoteric advertising after the break.
Continue reading Sony unveils its fourth tablet teaser video, Rube Goldberg aficionados rejoice

Sony unveils its fourth tablet teaser video, Rube Goldberg aficionados rejoice originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 03 Aug 2011 01:11:00 EST. Ready for yet another S1 / S2 teaser video that tells you more about the marketing team's potential extra-curricular indulgences and absolutely nothing new about the tablets? Well, drop those tabs and strap in for some doll-voiced la la la's as Sony leads us even deeper into the late-night realm of desktop toys and the tablets they love. Shots of the stylish slates displaying video and gaming functionality are all but hidden in a "filled with fun" maze of booby-trap triggered contraptions. It's a romp through the sort of endearing Tim Burton-esque, high-art nightmare Sony's dabbled in for past Playstation campaigns -- so we're not too surprised. Hit the break to hitch a ride on this video wonderland.
Continue reading Sony's latest tablet teaser plunges deeper into the rabbit hole, still tells us nothing

Sony's latest tablet teaser plunges deeper into the rabbit hole, still tells us nothing originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 13:33:00 EST. Before stumbling back to work this morning, you might wanna take a minute to give your neurons a well-deserved massage with this new teaser for Sony's S1 and S2 tablets. Much like last month's spellbinding ad, this sequel features plenty of balls, levers and bizarre figurines moving together in serpentine synergy. If you look closely, you might even spot one of Sony's Honeycomb slates. This is only the second installation in what could very well be a never-ending series -- but we'd be OK with that, because these clips make our brains happy. Click play to get the ball rolling and let the symphony begin.

Woosh. Plonk. Snap. Like a highly atmospheric scene from your favorite film noir, Sony's teaser video for the S1 and S2 tablets starts off with isolated sounds and a bit of quick motion before settling into a sumptuous, deliberately paced feast for your eyeballs. You might say it's high art posing as a consumer electronics promo, particularly if you compare it to ASUS or Huawei's efforts in the field. There's sadly little in the way of new information, all we really get to witness are the reassuring Android Honeycomb software keys on the larger S1, but this "first impression" clip is the start of a series of ads revolving around a pair of alabaster figurines and their tablet-assisted love affair. Give the play button a bash for your recommended daily dose of awesome.
Sony tablet teaser video is breathtaking, not overly informative originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 17 Jun 2011 02:25:00 EST. We're not sure how this slipped past us at the Sony Android tablet event, but turns out the electronics giant also teased a couple of interesting VAIO laptops. First up is a "Freestyle Hybrid PC" that slides between tablet mode and laptop mode -- very much like the Samsung Sliding PC, but with a seemingly slimmer bottom-half sans trackpad (though we can just about spot a pointing stick on the keyboard). No word on specs, prices, or availability here, but you may recall our proven tipster mentioning a 9.4-inch screen and a $799 launch in the fall. Could this be it? We shall see.

Also shown alongside is a swanky "Ultimate Mobile PC" -- pictured after the break -- with a hint of USB 3.0 and HDMI on a slim body, but again, there's not much else to go with this slide. Hey, at least we now know it's time to start saving up for these bad boys.
Continue reading Sony teases 'Freestyle Hybrid PC' tablet slider and next-gen ultra-portable laptop

Sony teases 'Freestyle Hybrid PC' tablet slider and next-gen ultra-portable laptop originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 27 Apr 2011 01:10:00 EST. Sony's CES banners have been unfurled around the Las Vegas Convention Center here and one of them has a particularly alluring, and particularly skinny, phone to show us. The above image of half a touchscreen handset (more closeup photography of which you'll find in the gallery below) shows a Sony Ericsson brand and what looks like a 3.5mm headphone jack -- the latter of which would suggest that this phone is no more than six or seven millimeters thick. Even more enticing is the promise of "more entertainment at the touch of a button," suggesting some processing and graphics firepower contained within as well -- could it be SE's answer to the dual-core LG Optimus 2X? We get the feeling we'll love this thing whatever the hell's inside it.

Update: Closer investigation of the imagery has led us to believe this is probably the Anzu / X12 that we first saw back in November. That device's claim to fame was a 4.3-inch display allied to a "very, very thin" profile.

Update 2: The mysterious handset has now been revealed as the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.
News has been a bit barren on the DSLR front lately (not counting Pentax's color explosion earlier on), but that's not going to last for much longer. Sony is starting up the fall refresh cycle with "never-before-seen" Alpha models, which will be shown off at an event on August 24 alongside the NEX-VG10 and some 3D-capable Cyber-shots. We've no way of knowing what's in store, but if you're in a speculative kind of mood, Sony Alpha Rumors suggests the new shooters will include a semi-transparent mirror (most intriguing!) and a pleasingly fast 10fps burst shooting mode. That's enough to whet our appetite, now bring on the full dish of details already.
Sony's website is slowly ticking down the hours, minutes and seconds until the company's latest product launch, but like all other Sony teasers in recent memory, there's little real doubt. If references to "X10" peppered through the site's source code left any doubt, this picture should clear it up -- mark our words, that's an Xperia X10 underneath the clock. Apparently the four-inch Android smartphone is finally ready for its US debut, though whether it's "smarter" or no will probably depend on which version of the OS it ships with. Expect an AT&T launch, and be sure to read our full review.

Update: As numerous commenters and tipsters have pointed out, Sony hasn't gone to much trouble to hide what's going on -- all you need to do to see the trademark Xperia logo is drop that image into a photo editor and crank up the brightness.
Like Sony's new NEX3 and NEX5 compact cameras with APC-C-sized sensors? Better yet, it'll also work with A Mount lenses built for Sony's existing Alpha DSLRs. Interesting. Sony's teasing a new VAIO "Ultra Mobile" in Japan. No idea what this could be: refreshed VAIO X lappie, VAIO P netbook, or a new take on its venerable VAIO UX micro PC? With Intel's Moorestown just around the corner we're leaning towards the latter, hoping for it anyway -- Sony doesn't tease just any old product without good reason. Oh, wait.

Update: A previously proven Sony tipster tells us that a new VAIO P is the mystery device. In fact, it's orange and the paper clip to the left actually represents the unit as viewed from the side. Sony is continuing its drip drip of teasers on a new entry to its VAIO line with a Japanese placeholder sure to pique just the slightest bit of curiosity. When you venture over to the company's co.jp landing page, you're greeting with a quick Flash animation of a woman pulling a long, thin rectangle out of her clutch... which ends up being an envelope reading "VAIO New Mobile, Coming Soon." Your guess is as good as ours -- as long as you're guessing it's this thing.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Sony VAIO Japanese teaser suggests something long, thin, and "coming soon" originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 24 Dec 2008 08:54:00 EST. Sony Style is running a rather large teaser on its main page, featuring a quite distinctive power button and the blurb "Performance / Style / Mobility. Redefined." Hrm. Sony sure loves to tease, and while the Rolly campaign finally resulted in an actual product, we're still scratchin' our noggins on this one. There's not a lot to go on when looking at the teaser page for the simply-titled Drive, and aside from that delightfully green bow and a seductive "Coming soon" phrase, all we can make out is something akin to a scaled-down treadmill with a turgid windscreen. Okay, so maybe it's just an all-in-one PC of some sort (we can almost imagine a floating LCD behind that ribbon), but we'll leave the real guessing to you.

[Thanks, Cheek]

Sony teases us with Drive originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 28 Sep 2007 16:10:00 EST. Remember Sony's rumored Rolly something-or-other? Well, it's official with a full-blown Rolly teaser campaign launched by Sony in Japan. No details other than confirmation of its audio entertainment roots. By the looks of things, we'll be getting the full poop around September 10th when the "Rolly Special Party" kicks off. Gotta say, it's been awhile since we've seen Sony market a new product so heavily. And with keywords such as "communication," "small," "share," "free," "shuffle," and "kurukuru" (translated: go round and round) splattered around the page, color us intrigued -- although barely after being subjected to a gaggle of giggling chicks in the throes of the chicken dance. See what we mean after the break, if you dare.

[Via Engadget Japanese]

Read -- Rolly special party registration
Read -- Rolly-show Blog
Read -- Rolly
Continue reading Sony launches Rolly teaser campaign -- makes girls chicken dance

Sony launches Rolly teaser campaign -- makes girls chicken dance originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 20 Aug 2007 03:41:00 EST. It ain't exactly the full disclosure we were hoping for, but hey, baby steps... Sony Ericsson's at least admitting the W880 "Ai" exists now, and that counts for something, right? The press release couldn't possible be more sparse, simply stating that the handset "will blend astonishing good looks with all of the music-centred features that fans have come to expect" from Walkman phones and more details will be provided closer to release in the first half of '07. And, oh yeah, there are a couple teaser shots that manage to be even less revealing than the plethora of spy shots we've already scored; at least they're kinda artsy.

[Thanks, Mike]
Continue reading Sony Ericsson teases us with W880 "Ai" shots

Sony Ericsson teases us with W880 "Ai" shots originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 08 Jan 2007 05:36:00 EST.
