Sega peeks into its storied past this week with the Humble Sega Bundle, a pay-what-you-want collection featuring a handful of classics adapted from the Saturn and Dreamcast eras. Pay any amount for the bundle and you'll get the surreal score-attack action game Nights Into Dreams, kart racer Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, and the Dreamcast Collection, which includes PC versions of Sonic Adventure, Sega Bass Fishing, Crazy Taxi, and Space Channel 5 Part 2. The package also offers Total War: Rome II's "Caesar in Gaul" expansion and the Miles' Tactic DLC for Football Manager 2015. Beat the bundle's average purchase price (currently $3.68) and you'll unlock Empire: Total War, Company of Heroes 2 - The Western Front Armies: Oberkommando West, and additional games that will be revealed as the bundle enters its final week. Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai is up for grabs as a $12 incentive, and you can also get an exclusive Dreamcast-themed t-shirt with a purchase of $50 or more. The Humble Sega Bundle will be available through December 9. [Video: Humble Bundle / Sega]

The latest full game to take its toll on your PS3 hard drive (but not necessarily your wallet) is Borderlands, joining the PlayStation Plus "Instant Game Collection" in North America September 4. Download it this month and you'll have it as long as you're a member of the Sony premium service. Not a bad way to build excitement for the sequel! Also next week, PS Plus members will be able to get Daytona USA for $3 (it'll be on sale for everyone else for $5) and Greed Corp for @$2.50.Before that, Space Channel 5 Part 2 and Spelunker HD are on sale this week, for $3 and $5, respectively. Spelunker HD is also getting a free update with extra DLC this week.

With our review of Orcs Must Die! already up, it's time to take a look at this week's other XBLA releases, NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, Sega Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5 Part 2. In other words, we have two old Dreamcast games, and one game that's trying to make you remember old games. There are new Xbox Live Arcade games released every week. We realize that our readers are busy, attractive people, and may not have time to download and examine each and every new XBLA game. You've got busy, attractive person stuff to do, after all. Not to worry though, because we've done the work for you, downloading every single trial game and giving you a taste of what to expect. Watch XBLA in Brief every week to see which games deserve a closer look. When you have the time, of course.

If you declined to pick up the Dreamcast Collection, either because you only wanted one of the included games or you just have a PS3, you'll have access to the HD-ified Space Channel 5 Part 2 and Sega Bass Fishing soon. Sega just announced that the games will be released simultaneously in North America on PSN October 4, with an Xbox 360 release following the next day -- it's another delay past the "late summer" date, but at least it's a date. Each game will run 800 Points or $9.99 -- which means that, if you want more than one of these, and you have an Xbox 360, you should really check out that collection. Either way, it's a great time to catch up with all your favorite characters, including Ulala, Space Michael, Pine, and ... a bass, we guess ...

  • Space Channel 5 Part 2, Sega Bass Fishing coming to XBLA and PSN 'late summer'

Before the launch of the Dreamcast Collection -- which somehow discovered commonality between Sonic Adventure, Sega Bass Fishing, Space Channel 5 Part 2 and Crazy Taxi -- Sega had announced plans to release Space Channel 5 Part 2 and Sega Bass Fishing via Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. Despite missing the "early 2011" release window, Sega tells Joystiq that the rhythm 'n' reeling pair will still become available as downloadable games at a later stage. "Space Channel 5 Part 2 and SEGA Bass Fishing are definitely coming to XBLA and PSN, look for them sometime in late summer," Sega brand manager Ben Harborne told us. Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi are already available on both services for $10 each, and all four games can be bought individually on Steam for $8.99 apiece. The Dreamcast Collection disc is only available on Xbox 360, so PS3 owners will have to hang on until summer. (If you're really desperate and have a backwards-compatible system or a PS2 handy, you could try to track down the Agetec-published Space Channel 5: Special Edition.)

  • Dreamcast Collection puts four whole games on PC and Xbox this Feb.

The "Dreamcast Collection," first spotted on GameStop in November, is official. Sega announced the disc-based collection today, and we're a bit disheartened to see that it's exactly what we expected, because what we expected was pretty sad. The collection contains Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, Sega Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5 Part 2 (all with "enhanced graphics"). In other words, the Dreamcast Collection is composed of just the four totally random games that have already been released (or announced for release) on PSN and XBLA, burned onto a disc for Xbox 360 and released digitally on PC. We suppose it could be good news for PC gamers who weren't going to have access to the games otherwise. The Dreamcast Collection will be available on February 22 in North America and February 25 in Europe. Pricing has yet to be confirmed by Sega, but GameStop's original listing showed $30, which would at least be cheaper than purchasing all four downloadable versions of the games separately. Yay?

Sega's next batch of high-definition Dreamcast ports (following Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure) is a good reminder of the failed console's eclectic and enduring selection of games. The first has reeled in hundreds of scaly creatures who can only stare vacantly at their captor, mouths agape -- the other one is Sega Bass Fishing. According to Eurogamer, the all-singing, all-dancing Space Channel 5 Part 2 will arrive on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in "early 2011," alongside the aforementioned aquatic catch-em-up. Interestingly, Sega has never published Space Channel 5 Part 2 in North America. The Dreamcast version never made it out of Japan, and a PlayStation 2 port -- bundled with the first game as Space Channel 5: Special Edition -- was released in America by Agetec. Overseen by Rez and Child of Eden designer Tesuya Mizuguchi, Space Channel 5 was unique in melding a goofy story with rote rhythm-based mechanics. Part 2 ditched the first game's pre-rendered video backdrops and added instrument battles, impromptu singing showdowns and expanded on the original's catchy, Austin-Powers-in-space music.
