Yes, these are the pun-heavy ones we anticipated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/23/creative-teases-sound-blaster-axx/">last week</a>, but now we have a lot more detail. There are three different sizes of speaker, but only the larger two (the SBX-20 and SBX-10) are Bluetooth -- the smaller and cheaper SBX-8 must be tethered. All contain the new SBAxx-1 hardware processor, and even the SBX-20 can be powered over USB from a mobile device (with sufficient current output) or a power pack. The speakers are designed to bring Creative into the Internet Age with a number of voice-enhancing features for video chat apps like Skype. These include highly-focused directionality and noise reduction, to frame out peripheral sounds, and also Smart Volume, which automatically adjusts audio levels as you move closer to or further from the mic. This same processing technology is also claimed to assist with voice-recognition platforms like Siri when you use a Sound BlasterAxx speaker to communicate with your device instead of its regular microphone. There's also some quirky stuff like comic voice effects, just in case you're not embarrassed by how you sound on a mic already. The SBX-8 and SBX-10 will be available in the UK from early July for &pound;80 and &pound;130 respectively, while the flagship SBX-20 will arrive in August for &pound;180.</p><p> <strong>Update:</strong> Now with added gallery and video after the break!</p><p> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sound-blasteraxx-hands-on/">Sound BlasterAxx hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sound-blasteraxx-hands-on/#5053750"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc1643_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sound-blasteraxx-hands-on/#5053751"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc1649_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sound-blasteraxx-hands-on/#5053752"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc1650_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sound-blasteraxx-hands-on/#5053753"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc1651_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sound-blasteraxx-hands-on/#5053754"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/dsc1653_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/30/creative-sound-blasteraxx-speakers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Creative announces Sound BlasterAxx wireless speakers with mics (update: hands-on!)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/30/creative-sound-blasteraxx-speakers/">Creative announces Sound BlasterAxx wireless speakers with mics (update: hands-on!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 30 May 2012 07:49:00 EST. Its first Glowtunes speaker tower, the new iP76, comes packed with LEDs in seven different hues that can fade, pulse or strobe as your playlist requires. The three-foot iP76 sports a dock for your iPhone or iPod and packs four speakers with Reson8 technology. There's also Bluetooth for streaming from other devices. The iP76 will go on sale for $200 in July. Already dreaming about all the sonic light shows you'll host? They are <em>everywhere</em>, in constantly evolving iterations, smaller and more versatile than ever before. Singaporean manufacturer <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Xmini/">X-mini</a> has a pretty good foothold in this game with a consistent brand message of "Sound Beyond Size." That indicates the portability, mass, and reproductive capacity of its products in a pretty nebulous fashion, so we decided to grab its latest offering, the Bluetooth-toting KAI, and place it in our real lives for a few months. It's available now for $99, which will take it off the table for many casual listeners, but those who crave what's next in distributed audio might find KAI to be quite the ear-opener. We got pretty close with it (but not <em>weird</em> close), and we have a couple of things to say about that whole size / sound relationship they're so keen on.</p><p>
</p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/16/x-mini-kai-capsule-bluetooth-speaker-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>X-mini KAI capsule Bluetooth speaker review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/16/x-mini-kai-capsule-bluetooth-speaker-review/">X-mini KAI capsule Bluetooth speaker review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 16 May 2012 15:00:00 EST. It's a common phrase in the mobile industry, but if <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/kyocera">Kyocera</a> has its way, the saying could quickly become a thing of the past, thanks to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/bone%20conduction">tissue conduction</a> technology that it plans to integrate into future handsets. Rather than operating with a traditional earpiece, we were told the display itself vibrates to create sound waves. The end result is an aural experience that can be perceived with your facial tissues and bones, and it's said to dramatically improves perceived audio quality within noisy environments.</p><p> Bone conduction technology was initially created for those with hearing difficulty, and while Kyocera isn't the first to reveal a novel implementation within mobile phones (a distinction that belongs to KDDI), the technology is Kyocera's own. During our brief hands-on demo, we were rather impressed by the noticeable difference created by tissue conduction in comparison to a traditional handset -- this applies to both quiet and noisy environments. In case you're curious, no, the vibrations aren't jarring, and yes, we'd genuinely like to see the technology take to the mainstream.</p><p> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyoceras-tissue-conduction-audio-technology/">Kyocera's tissue conduction audio technology</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyoceras-tissue-conduction-audio-technology/#5008445"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/05-07-2012dsc0180701_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyoceras-tissue-conduction-audio-technology/#5008447"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/05-07-2012dsc0180902_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyoceras-tissue-conduction-audio-technology/#5008448"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/05-07-2012dsc0283103_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyoceras-tissue-conduction-audio-technology/#5008449"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/05-07-2012dsc0283204_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kyoceras-tissue-conduction-audio-technology/#5008450"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/05/05-07-2012dsc0283506_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/07/kyocera-teases-bone-conduction-audio-technology-for-mobile-phone/">Kyocera teases tissue conduction audio technology for mobile phones at CTIA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 07 May 2012 21:12:00 EST. The BeoPlay V1 TV, which we got a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/22/new-beoplay-v1-shows-up-ahead-of-time-hearts-and-wallets-flutte/">sneak peek at</a> just over a week ago, has a slot to connect your Apple TV without wires spoiling the look of your upscale loft. Both 32- and 40-inch versions have relatively powerful speakers, too, with as many as three 32W amps in the 40-inch version being joined by discrete treble / mid speakers and a bass unit. Either of the 1080p TVs carries a 100Hz refresh rate, five HDMI inputs, and a USB port for your music and photos. Just as new is a BeoPlay A3 speaker dock for the iPad, which nestles your first- or second-generation iPad into what Bang &amp; Olufsen calls a "stable wedge" that not only keeps the iPad comfy but adapts the speakers to get maximum output depending on its orientation. An <strike>eight-hour</strike> 10-hour battery keeps the speakers completely wireless, although it won't charge your iPad in the process. The company will have the V1 in British shops on May 3rd at a comparatively frugal <span>&pound;1,999 </span>($3,238) and <span>&pound;2,499</span> ($4,047) for the respective 32- and 40-inch sizes, while fans of Hamlet's homeland will have to wait until May 23rd to pay <span>&pound;449 (<strike>$727</strike>) for an A3 dock, a picture of which you can find after the break.</span></p><p> <strong>Update:</strong> As it turns out, the A3 will priced at $550 with it hits the US later this month, not $727 as we previously reported.</p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/02/bang-and-olufsen-v1-tv-and-a3-ipad-dock/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bang &amp; Olufsen caters to the iOS crowd with Apple TV-friendly BeoPlay V1 TV set, A3 iPad speaker dock (update)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/02/bang-and-olufsen-v1-tv-and-a3-ipad-dock/">Bang &amp; Olufsen caters to the iOS crowd with Apple TV-friendly BeoPlay V1 TV set, A3 iPad speaker dock (update)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 02 May 2012 17:29:00 EST. This modern take on the drum pad delivers Arduino-powered interactivity in its simplest form -- hands-on time with ordinary household objects. Simply place a cup, or a plastic ball, even a business card on the DrumTop to make your own original music.</p><p> The prototype on display today includes eight pads, which are effectively repurposed speakers that tap objects placed on top, with an FSR sensor recognizing physical pressure and turning it into a synchronized beat. There's also a dial in the center that allows you to speed up or slow down the taps, presenting an adjustable tempo. DrumTop is more education tool than DJ beat machine, serving to teach youngsters about the physical properties of household objects, be it a coffee mug, a CD jewel case or a camera battery. But frankly, it's a lot of fun for folks of every age. There's no word on when you might be able to take one home, so for now you'll need to join us on our MIT visit for a closer look. We make music with all of these objects and more in the video after the break.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mit-media-lab-drumpad-hands-on/">MIT Media Lab: DrumTop hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mit-media-lab-drumpad-hands-on/#4983384"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/04/zshmitdrum001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mit-media-lab-drumpad-hands-on/#4983385"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/04/zshmitdrum002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mit-media-lab-drumpad-hands-on/#4983386"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/04/zshmitdrum003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mit-media-lab-drumpad-hands-on/#4983387"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/04/zshmitdrum004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mit-media-lab-drumpad-hands-on/#4983388"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/04/zshmitdrum005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/24/mit-media-lab-drumtop-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>MIT gets musical with Arduino-powered DrumTop, uses household objects as a source of sound</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/24/mit-media-lab-drumtop-hands-on/">MIT gets musical with Arduino-powered DrumTop, uses household objects as a source of sound</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 24 Apr 2012 12:35:00 EST. Constructed nearly entirely of cardboard, save for some metal- and plastic-based essentials, the speaker rig ships disassembled in a flat cardboard box. Getting the Boombox up and running shouldn't require much effort, however -- the designer states that you won't need any tools during the quick assembly process. After you're done, you can connect the setup to any source with a 3.5mm headphone jack, then control volume with the large aluminum power/volume knob. The Berlin Boombox also ships with four AA batteries, though it's not clear how many hours of music you'll be able to pipe through the speakers with that initial set of cells. We also can't speak to sound quality, though there is a free custom sound profile available for iOS devices -- audio "will be remastered in real-time to use the full potential of the Berlin Boombox."</div><br /><div> You can pre-order your own with a $50 pledge, saving you 9 bucks off the estimated retail price. There's also a "limited edition" two-tone box, available with a $100 pledge, while $250 will net you a custom-designed model, which can also be paired with a dinner and tour of Berlin with the inventor if you're willing to fork over $500 or more. There's just shy of two weeks left during the funding period -- you'll need to provide that financial support before noon on April 25th. The project is on track to meet its $14,000 funding goal, however, so it's fairly safe to say that you'll be able to snag one of these cardboard contraptions even if you aren't ready to take the plunge just yet. Jump past the break to see the Berlin Boombox in action, and to catch up with our last <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/InsertCoin/">Insert Coin</a> project: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/10/insert-coin-the-powerpot/">The PowerPot</a>.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/11/insert-coin-berlin-boombox/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Insert Coin: Berlin Boombox recyclable cardboard stereo (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/11/insert-coin-berlin-boombox/">Insert Coin: Berlin Boombox recyclable cardboard stereo (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 11 Apr 2012 16:00:00 EST. (It made it here well after the holidays passed. Better late than never, right?) While Sony is billing the Z as a Walkman first and foremost, its spacious 4.3-inch display and 1GHz <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/nvidia+tegra+2/">Tegra 2</a> SoC ensure it's powerful and well-sized for playing games and generally making the most of Gingerbread. The device will be available in a variety of flavors, with up to 32GB of storage ($330), though for the purposes of this review we've been rocking the entry-level 8GB model ($250). Although we haven't exactly been charmed by <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/12/galaxy-player-4-0-review/">similar devices</a> vying for a piece of the iPod Touch's market share, the Walkman Z has plenty of promise. The question is, does it deliver? And does it deserve your $250 when it goes on sale in March? Let's find out. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-z-series-walkman-player-review/">Sony Z series Walkman player review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-z-series-walkman-player-review/#4819878"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/dsc0022_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-z-series-walkman-player-review/#4819879"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/dsc0023_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-z-series-walkman-player-review/#4819880"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/dsc0025_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-z-series-walkman-player-review/#4819881"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/dsc0027_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-z-series-walkman-player-review/#4819882"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/dsc0031-1329249948_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/14/sony-z-series-walkman-player-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sony Z Series Walkman Player review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/14/sony-z-series-walkman-player-review/">Sony Z Series Walkman Player review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 14 Feb 2012 15:00:00 EST. The dock will blast "My Name is Jonas" from a pair of 1.6-inch stereo speakers and a 3-inch subwoofer. As you'd expect, the kit charges your Apple slate in a cradle that sports both landscape and portrait orientations alongside tilt positioning for the optimum viewing angle. If you find yourself needing to switch over to a smartphone to bump your tunes, the bassDOCK has a 3.5mm aux jack for just that purpose. The speaker dock is available now via the source link for $149.99 and a closer look awaits you in the gallery below.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/scosche-bassdock-for-ipad/">Scosche bassDOCK for iPad</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/scosche-bassdock-for-ipad/#4807266"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/bassdock-horiz_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/scosche-bassdock-for-ipad/#4807268"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/bassdock-settings_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/scosche-bassdock-for-ipad/#4807269"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/bassdock-vert_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/09/scosche-bassdock-now-shipping-150/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Scosche bassDOCK blasts Weezer from any iPad, available now for $150</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/09/scosche-bassdock-now-shipping-150/">Scosche bassDOCK blasts Weezer from any iPad, available now for $150</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 09 Feb 2012 17:51:00 EST. The partnership sees the original iPod dock covered in smooth glass and cut metal, which certainly sets it apart from pretty much <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipod+dock">any other dock</a> we've ever seen. The dock connector sits at the top, and being inset, isn't suitable for iPads, but if you're getting one of these, we imagine you don't want to ruin the aesthetic by perching a slate on top anyway. There is, however, a USB connection meaning this isn't an iDevice only affair. If you've got the estimated &pound;10,000 (or about $15,840) lying around, it'll have to keep burning that hole in your pocket until some time in March. We managed to get a quick hands -- and ears -- on with the only two units in the UK, but couldn't explore much beyond how it looked in-store, bar an awkward moment when we placed an iPhone on it, only to discover it set to full volume. Earlier this year, iLuv outted its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/12/iluv-outs-ism524-artstation-pro-worlds-first-galaxy-tab-comp/">iMM514</a> for Sammy slates, enabling you to jam some Kelly Clarkson and charge the device at the same time. For $149.99, we weren't expecting to be blown away but we're hoping it'll be a serviceable kit for at least a few Android tablets. We spent a few minutes with the iMM514 and we walked away with some observations.<br /><br />Right off, there are noticeable differences between the ArtStation Pro and some of the high-end speaker docks that we've <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/14/jbl-onbeat-xtreme-review/">handled recently</a>. Lacking a top-side LED, there is no visual indication as to whether or not the peripheral is powered on, which was a bit perplexing. Once docked, you'll have the option of portrait or landscape orientations coupled with the ability to make minor tilt adjustments. Controls were pretty standard for playback and responded quickly to our finger commands. As far as sound quality goes, the iMM514 was about what you'd expect from a sub-$200 dock -- it's serviceable and we didn't notice <em>a ton</em> of distortion at maximum volume. Granted, we were smack dab in the middle of CES so our keen hearing could've been slightly thrown off. Oddly, the dock can also be paired with a Bluetooth keyboard if you're into that, however it was nowhere to be found during our demo. Looking for a quick tour? Hit the video after the break. It'll make you stronger, we promise.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iluv-imm514-artstation-pro-hands-on/">iLuv iMM514 ArtStation Pro hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iluv-imm514-artstation-pro-hands-on/#4747593"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/iluv-imm514-artstation-pro-hands-on-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iluv-imm514-artstation-pro-hands-on/#4747594"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/iluv-imm514-artstation-pro-hands-on-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iluv-imm514-artstation-pro-hands-on/#4747595"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/iluv-imm514-artstation-pro-hands-on-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iluv-imm514-artstation-pro-hands-on/#4747596"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/iluv-imm514-artstation-pro-hands-on-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iluv-imm514-artstation-pro-hands-on/#4747597"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/iluv-imm514-artstation-pro-hands-on-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/13/iluv-artstation-pro-for-samsung-galaxy-tabs-hands-on-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>iLuv ArtStation Pro for Samsung Galaxy Tabs hands-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/13/iluv-artstation-pro-for-samsung-galaxy-tabs-hands-on-video/">iLuv ArtStation Pro for Samsung Galaxy Tabs hands-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 13 Jan 2012 12:53:00 EST. Soul Electronics (rapper <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ludacris/">Ludacris'</a> line of audio products) has today unveiled its first non-headphone device, dubbed Party in a Box. The name may seem a bit silly, but this speaker system is packing some serious specs. The PIAB is large enough to dock an iPad, and features both <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/airplay/">AirPlay</a> and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. On top of ensuring nearly any modern mobile device should be able to stream audio to it sans wires, the mini-rig also comes with 5.8GHz two-way transceiver that'll allow you to play your tunes over multiple PIABs, or even other speakers. Speaking of speakers, internally you'll find a duo of 6.5-inch woofers, to 3-inch mid-purposed drivers, and finally, a quartet of 1-inch tweeters.<br /> <br /> For wired connectivity, the rig packs an HDMI output, an auxiliary connection for wired hookup, and a best of all, a balanced mic input (XLR?) so you can MC from just about anywhere there's power. Considering that Party in a Box features a carry handle, shoulder strap and will plug plug into wall and car sockets or run off of its own rechargeable batteries, we'd imagine it's a very feasible proposition. For a bit of extra spice, the system also has a a pair of VU meters that'll bump to your jams, and even customizable mood-lighting.<br /> <br /> Aside from PIAB, Soul is also introducing a few new color-schemes for its<em> </em>SL49, SL99 in-ear headphones, as well as its SL300 over-ear model. There's no specific word on pricing or availability just yet, but if we hear anything from the show floor, you can be sure we'll keep you post. Full press release just past the break.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/soul-electronics-intros-party-in-a-box-wireless-speaker-system/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Soul Electronics Party in a Box wireless speaker system: Ludacris' new way to keep your festivities bumping</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/soul-electronics-intros-party-in-a-box-wireless-speaker-system/">Soul Electronics Party in a Box wireless speaker system: Ludacris' new way to keep your festivities bumping</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 Jan 2012 16:15:00 EST. Following the release of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/21/klipsch-gallery-g-17-air-soundbar-review/">Gallery G-17 Airplay speaker</a> is the RoomGroove Air, Stadium and Console AirPlay speakers:</div><ul> <li> The RoomGroove Air packs dual 1-inch soft-textile tweeters with Round Tractrix horns and 2.5-inch woofers promises big sound from its small package. It'll be available in fall of 2012, but we don't have any word on pricing yet.</li> <li> The Stadium (pictured) is a 2.1 tabletop speaker that's packing dual 1-inch titanium LTS tweeters with beefier 3-inch midrange woofers and a dual 5.25-inch subwoofer to make sure whatever table this speaker winds up on, it'll shake in tune to your <em>Yacht Rock</em> playlist du jour and also arrives in fall.</li> <li> The Console is a 2.1 audio system that doubles as furniture, capable of running HDMI, Optical-in and USB inputs as well as AirPlay. It's packing dual Tractrix Horns with a 1.75-inch titanium dome, high compression LTS drivers and 10-inch folded cone Cerametallic woofers. It can also double as a center speaker for a beefy home cinema system, but still thy beating heart people, it's not coming out until winter of 2012.</li></ul><div> We've got more details after the break, neatly organized into a press release for your edification.<br /> <br /> <strong>Update:</strong> We just met with Klipsch and got brief look at the the Console 2.1 and as well as a mock-up of what the Stadium. Truth be told, Klipsch admits that they're undoubtedly aimed at high-rollers, rocking respective estimated price points of about $7,000 and over $1,500 -- be still, our hearts yet again. The Stadium takes up nearly the same footprint of the G-17 Air, but in all, it's almost double the size.<br /> <br /> The Console 2.1 cabinet-system was partly functional, and although we couldn't gauge sound quality, we can say that it was exceptionally <em>loud</em> against the busy show floor. Notably, the massive system manages to pump out all that volume without much in the way of vibrations -- so much so that the water inside of a wine glass place on its top remained impressively placid. You can see for yourself in the video past the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-stadium-and-console-2-1-airplay-speaker-systems-eyes-on/">Klipsch Stadium and Console 2.1 Airplay speaker systems (eyes-on)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-stadium-and-console-2-1-airplay-speaker-systems-eyes-on/#4739044"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0086_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-stadium-and-console-2-1-airplay-speaker-systems-eyes-on/#4739045"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0087-1326250050_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-stadium-and-console-2-1-airplay-speaker-systems-eyes-on/#4739046"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0088-1326250054_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-stadium-and-console-2-1-airplay-speaker-systems-eyes-on/#4739047"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0089-1326250059_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-stadium-and-console-2-1-airplay-speaker-systems-eyes-on/#4739048"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0090-1326250063_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <br /> <em>Joe Pollicino contributed to this report.</em></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/klipsch-airplay-speakers-ces/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Klipsch planning to 'rule the air' at CES (update: eyes-on, video and pricing)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/klipsch-airplay-speakers-ces/">Klipsch planning to 'rule the air' at CES (update: eyes-on, video and pricing)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 09 Jan 2012 13:40:00 EST. Griffin's rounded off its hat-trick of new devices for CES with the Twenty: a digital audio amplifier that'll turn any pair of speakers into a wireless HiFi by docking your Airport Express. Once you've hooked up a pair of <em>noisyboxes</em> you've got lying around, you can mosh to 2.1 sound with a maximum of 20 watts coming out of each driver -- it'll even accommodate a powered subwoofer that has an active crossover at 80Hz. Check out the sneak peak of the device after the break.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Griffin has confirmed that the Twenty will cost under $200 (without the Airport Express)<br />

Remember that Rukus solar-powered Bluetooth sound system we just told you about <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/08/rukus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system/">a few minutes ago</a>? Well, we just got a little bit of hands-on time with the thing. The speaker set was plugged in, of course -- there's not a heck of a lot of natural lighting in the Venetian hotel, here in Vegas. Also, for the record, in spite of the model's rather boastful name, the speaker couldn't really get all that loud, sadly -- though that's sort of the curse of the Bluetooth speaker system, we suppose. It also often comes with the territory for portable systems, and the Ruckus, again, in contrast to its name, is reasonably compact and portable. We fiddled with the volume and bass buttons, but the speaker didn't get all that much louder than the roaring crowd around us.<br />
<br />
The decision to include an e-ink display was a pretty novel one -- its uses aren't quite as broad as an LCD, but it's hard to deny that it was extremely readable, as it no doubt would be in direct sunlight, as the company claims. And let's face it, if you use the solar panel as intended, you're gonna have this thing outside in the sun a lot, right? The Ruckus will run you $150 when it drops in Q2, just in time for you to actually want to go outside again.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rukus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system-hands-on/">Rukus solar-powered Bluetooth sound system hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rukus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system-hands-on/#4724139"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/img2089-1326073362_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rukus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system-hands-on/#4724140"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/img2090-1326073366_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rukus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system-hands-on/#4724141"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/img2091-1326073368_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rukus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system-hands-on/#4724142"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/img2093-1326073370_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/rukus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system-hands-on/#4724143"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/img2094-1326073372_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ruckus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system/">Rukus solar powered bluetooth sound system</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ruckus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system/#4723678"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/ruckus-solar-2011-12-2716-49-56800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Ruckus solar powered bluetooth sound system" title="Ruckus solar powered bluetooth sound system" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ruckus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system/#4723679"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/ruckus-solar-2011-12-2716-51-14800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ruckus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system/#4723681"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/ruckus-solar-2011-12-2717-22-40800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ruckus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system/#4723682"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/ruckus-solar-2011-12-2717-29-28800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ruckus-solar-powered-bluetooth-sound-system/#4723683"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/ruckus-solar-2011-12-2717-43-36800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />

What's got Bluetooth, big solar panels and an e-ink display? Not a heck of a lot of gadgets prior to today's introduction of the Rukus portable sound system from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/eton/">Eton</a>. The solar-power speaker system can stream music wirelessly from your Bluetooth devices, bumping it in style through two full-range speaker drivers. The system is powered by a solar panel (though you can also power it the old fashioned wired way, when the sun's nowhere in sight), but don't worry about reading the screen in the sunshine -- the Rukus has an e-ink display, which also helps the thing conserve a fair amount of power. Eton also says that the player is "virtually indestructible," a claim we're sure some folks will want to put to the test when it drops in Q2 for $150.<br />

While 3D video is already running rampant throughout the latest HDTVs, another new bullet point feature is 3D sound, and naturally LG's newest home theater systems have it. LG will have four new home theater systems on display this week at CES, but the first one it's showing off is the BH9420PW, which uses "3D Sound Zooming" to match the positioning of sounds with 3D video being displayed on one of LG's TVs. It achieves this thanks to four upright speakers added to the traditional 5.1 layout and algorithm that detects depth of effects being watched in 3D. According to LG, this makes for a wider sweet spot than usual, but as always we'll let our ears be the judge. There's a few more details in the press release after the break along with a couple more pictures to tide you over until the press conference kicks off at 11AM ET, January 9th.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/07/lg-home-theater-system-adds-vertical-speakers-for-9-1-surround-s/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LG home theater system adds vertical speakers for 9.1 surround sound</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/07/lg-home-theater-system-adds-vertical-speakers-for-9-1-surround-s/">LG home theater system adds vertical speakers for 9.1 surround sound</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 07 Jan 2012 20:51:00 EST. In the midst of Yet Another iPod Sound System-palooza, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Soundfreaq/">Soundfreaq</a> has managed to craft some pretty differentiated pieces. Here in the run-up to CES 2012, the outfit's ushering in its most edgy device yet, the Sound Kick. It's a mobile wireless speaker that touts a unique speaker chamber, which shuts compactly for travel and then opens up whenever there's room. It's able to push on through seven solid hours of on-the-go listening (thanks to that internal Li-ion battery), and it can even share the juice with any USB-chargeable device -- similar to Spar's own <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/15/spars-zepher-portable-bluetooth-speaker-lineup-streams-your-mus/">Zephyr</a>. In related news, the company's also using the show to introduce its Sound Step Recharge in white and red. Expect the new lot to ship this spring, and if you're hungry for more, the full release is just after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/04/soundfreaq-gets-edgy-with-sound-kick-mobile-bluetooth-speaker/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Soundfreaq gets edgy with Sound Kick mobile Bluetooth speaker</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/04/soundfreaq-gets-edgy-with-sound-kick-mobile-bluetooth-speaker/">Soundfreaq gets edgy with Sound Kick mobile Bluetooth speaker</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 04 Jan 2012 03:01:00 EST. You could take the time to make your cat feel loved. Or you could augment a robot to do it for you. Software engineer Taylor Veltrop has accomplished this by combining a 21-inch-tall <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/nao">Nao</a> robot, a few Wiimotes, a Kinect sensor bar, a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Omnidirectional%20Treadmill/">treadmill</a> and a head-mounted display. The configuration, which represents about a year's work and several thousand dollars in parts, uses the Kinect and Wii remotes to control the robot's arms, the sensor bar and treadmill to provide movement and the head-mounted display to move the Nao's head and adjust its camera angle. This is still a work in progress, and doesn't include things like two-way audio, which Veltrop plans to implement using an integrated microphone and speakers. Click past the break for a video of robotic feline grooming action.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/03/developer-pairs-robot-with-gaming-controllers-for-remote-cat-gro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Developer pairs robot with gaming controllers for remote cat grooming, affection expression</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/03/developer-pairs-robot-with-gaming-controllers-for-remote-cat-gro/">Developer pairs robot with gaming controllers for remote cat grooming, affection expression</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 03 Jan 2012 16:53:00 EST. Because it's never too early to get a start on Christmas 2012, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/zvox/">ZVOX</a> has announced the release of three new Z-Base models, the most affordable members of that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/soundbar/">soundbar</a> line, all designed to live beneath flat screen TVs. The low-end Z-Base 220 packs three full-range speakers, a subwoofer and a 35-watt amplifier in a DVD player-sized footprint for $200. The 320 measures 24 inches and will run you an extra $50. At the high-end is the Z-Base 420, a 28-incher with five speakers, a 5.25-inch subwoofer and a 45-watt amplifier. That one'll cost you $300. All three soundbars also feature the company's proprietary PhaseCue II virtual surround sound system. More info after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/28/zvox-intros-three-new-z-base-models-lowers-the-pricing-soundbar/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>ZVOX intros three new Z-Base models, lowers the pricing soundbar</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/28/zvox-intros-three-new-z-base-models-lowers-the-pricing-soundbar/">ZVOX intros three new Z-Base models, lowers the pricing soundbar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 28 Dec 2011 04:26:00 EST. We've been following the onslaught of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/airplay/">AirPlay</a> / <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/bluetooth+speaker/">Bluetooth speaker systems</a> in recent months, carefully combing through the prospects to find the true contenders. We were recently impressed by <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/21/klipsch-gallery-g-17-air-soundbar-review/">Klipsch's Gallery G-17 Air</a> and now we've given the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/jbl/">JBL</a> OnBeat Xtreme a testdrive. This beast is step up from the regular ol' <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/29/jbl-intros-onbeat-ipad-iphone-ipod-speaker-dock-prices-it-a/">OnBeat</a> dock, both in stature and cost. Priced a cool $500... it's sandwiched between the pricey <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/05/bowers-and-wilkins-zeppelin-air-review/">B&amp;W Zeppelin Air</a> and the more modest <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/27/ihome-iw1-airplay-wirless-audio-system-finally-available-now-ag/">iHome iW1</a>. So is the JBL dock extreme enough to warrant a purchase? We've been blasting beats through this bad boy for a fortnight, so read on to find out if you should snatch one up for yourself.<br />

		If you'll recall, it was back at CES when we realized that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/airplay/">AirPlay</a> devices would be "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/08/apple-airplay-devices-set-to-explode-in-2011/">set to explode</a>" by this year's end -- and it's certainly proving true as a storm of new speakers have hit the market over the last few months. Of all the speakers we'd spotted on the show floor, however, a select bunch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/06/klipsch-unveils-airplay-enabled-gallery-studio-forum-and-arena/">AirPlay-enabled speakerbar prototypes</a> from Klipsch's newly unveiled Gallery lineup of high-performance home audio wares really perked our ears -- and widened our pupils. It wouldn't be until July that the smallest version, known then as the $400 Gallery Studio, would be officially unveiled as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/20/klipschs-airplay-enabled-gallery-g-17-air-pleases-ears-sans-cor/">Gallery G-17 Air</a>, priced at a spendier $530.<br />
		<br />
		Now, nearly four months later the G-17 is finally hitting retail (albeit with a $20 price increase), aimed just a notch below $600 options like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/05/bowers-and-wilkins-zeppelin-air-review/">B&amp;W's Zeppelin Air</a>, but well above others including <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/27/ihome-iw1-airplay-wirless-audio-system-finally-available-now-ag/">iHome's $300 iW1</a>. We've been testing a model G-17 Air for a few days now, so join us past break to find out whether its beauty is deeper than its insanely glossy black shell. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-gallery-g-17-air-review/">Klipsch Gallery G-17 Air soundbar review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-gallery-g-17-air-review/#4622756"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/dsc0146-1321633782_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-gallery-g-17-air-review/#4622757"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/dsc0147-1321633783_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-gallery-g-17-air-review/#4622758"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/dsc0149-1321633784_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-gallery-g-17-air-review/#4622759"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/dsc0151-1321633785_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/klipsch-gallery-g-17-air-review/#4622760"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/dsc0152-1321633786_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div>

Sure, you could buy an outdoor speaker with <em>native</em> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AirPlay/">AirPlay</a> support, or you could stuff that spare AirPort Express you have laying around into the AirGo Outdoor Sound Station. This weather resistant speaker forgoes the usual baked in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/08/apple-airplay-devices-set-to-explode-in-2011/">BridgeCo silicone</a> for an integrated AirPort Express dock. Of course, this kind of ad hoc integration isn't cheap -- the AirGo will set you back almost $400, and that's <em>without</em> an Apple AirPort Express. The AirGo's AC cord (that's right, no batteries) ensures that you won't get too far into the great outdoors with this rig, but Russound's CEO is confident that weather won't be a problem. Rain? "Break out the Slip 'N Slide," he says "and continue to rock on." Sounds good to us. Slide on past the break for the official press release.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/11/airgo-outdoor-speaker-adopts-airport-express-shrugs-off-rain/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>AirGo Outdoor Speaker adopts AirPort Express, shrugs off rain</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/11/airgo-outdoor-speaker-adopts-airport-express-shrugs-off-rain/">AirGo Outdoor Speaker adopts AirPort Express, shrugs off rain</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 11 Nov 2011 15:32:00 EST. Libratone managed to pique our interest with its brightly-colored, cashmere-ensconced <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/21/libratones-airplay-enabled-soundbars-want-to-cozy-up-with-your/">Live and Lounge AirPlay speakers</a> this summer, and it's now finally announced that they're both available in the US. They come in at an expectedly hefty $699 for the smaller Live model and $1,299 for the larger Lounge soundbar (add an extra $100 to each for that aforementioned cashmere option -- yes, really), and they'll both be available at Apple stores and other select design retailers. Despite that sizable price difference, both units have the same 150W of total output power (coming from five dedicated amplifiers), although the Lounge promises some expanded range that's better suited for a living room -- it's also much bigger than it appears in the not-to-scale image above (40 inches wide, to be specific, while the Live is just under eight). The official press release is after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/02/libratone-live-and-lounge-airplay-speakers-now-available-in-the/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Libratone Live and Lounge AirPlay speakers now available in the US</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/02/libratone-live-and-lounge-airplay-speakers-now-available-in-the/">Libratone Live and Lounge AirPlay speakers now available in the US</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 02 Nov 2011 15:01:00 EST. Remember back to September 26th when <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/03/ihome-iw1-airplay-wireless-audio-system-review/">iHome's iW1 AirPlay speaker</a> was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/01/ihomes-airplay-iw1-wireless-speaker-system-available-on-septemb/"><em>supposed</em></a> to be available? Curiously, the company's website continually listed the $300 system as "coming soon" (at least the times we checked), leaving <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iOS/">iOS</a> and iTunes users yearning for this cable-free audio ware in the proverbial dust. Now, a full month later, iHome has again announced the release of this flagship wireless speaker, even though it's still out of stock itself. According to the company, a quick trip to an Apple Store, Best Buy or Crutchfield should let you snag one, although, the latter's site won't have any until November 3rd. Here's to hunting -- and waiting for the smaller <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/07/ihome-iw2-and-iw3-airplay-wireless-speakers-hands-on-sneak-peek/">iW2 and iW3</a> units to get proper release dates. <div>
	At a glance, one could confuse Twelve South's BassJump 2 for a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/27/editorial-apples-officially-over-the-optical-drive-for-better/">2011 Mac Mini</a> -- don't be fooled though, this USB subwoofer aims for sound that's anything but. Much like the original <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/24/twelve-souths-bassjump-subwoofer-improves-your-macbook-experien/">BassJump</a>, this guy's aimed at aiding <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Macbook/">MacBook</a> speakers by adding extra low end boost, and employing proprietary software to keep it in all in check. Improving on the original, however, the BassJump 2 pumps out eight extra decibels of volume and comes with "remastered software," notably featuring iMac and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Thunderbolt+Display/">Thunderbolt Display</a> support. If it piques your fancy, the BassJump 2 is now available for about $70 -- much like a pair of utilitarian Grado headphones (or similar), but we digress. Full press release past the break.<br />
	<br />
	<strong>Update</strong>: For clarification, the BassJump 2 is physically identical the first. According to Twelve South, its updated software is the key new feature and can be downloaded for free if you already own a BassJump.<br />

	<div style="text-align: left;">
		Believe it or not, it was way back at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/06/ihome-iw1-airplay-wireless-speaker-hands-on/">CES</a> that we first caught an in-person glimpse of iHome's flagship <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/airplay/">AirPlay</a>-enabled audio system -- a guy dubbed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/01/ihomes-airplay-iw1-wireless-speaker-system-available-on-septemb/">iW1</a>. We've seen a steady trickle of AirPlay devices announced in the time since, but the iW1's been one of the earliest to splash down for the fall season. Priced at a moderate $300, it's a potential option for A) those who aren't keen on smacking down at least <em>double</em> the Benjamins for systems like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/05/bowers-and-wilkins-zeppelin-air-review/">B&amp;W Zeppelin Air</a> or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/21/libratones-airplay-enabled-soundbars-want-to-cozy-up-with-your/">Libratone's Live</a> or B) an alternative to other wireless systems like the similarly priced <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/01/sonos-play-3-review/">Sonos Play:3</a>.</div>
	<div style="text-align: left;">
		<br />
		Despite the iW1's low(ish) cost of adoption, though, it's packed with a bevy of tantalizing features (including app support, capacitive controls and a rechargeable battery), and a classy appearance, to boot. We put this modern-age boom box through its sound-reproducing paces for the past few weeks (much to our neighbors dismay). So, if you want to find out whether or not the iHome iW1 will pack a bang for your buck, hit that "read more" link below for our full review. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ihome-iw1-airplay-speaker-unboxing-and-hands-on/">iHome iW1 AirPlay wireless audio system review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ihome-iw1-airplay-speaker-unboxing-and-hands-on/#4471861"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/dsc0301-1316710928_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ihome-iw1-airplay-speaker-unboxing-and-hands-on/#4471862"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/dsc0304-1316710929_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ihome-iw1-airplay-speaker-unboxing-and-hands-on/#4471883"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/dsc0383_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ihome-iw1-airplay-speaker-unboxing-and-hands-on/#4471845"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/dsc0249-1316710918_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/ihome-iw1-airplay-speaker-unboxing-and-hands-on/#4471880"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/dsc0363-1316710939_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div>

	Have a soft spot for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/15/bose-unveils-soundlink-wireless-mobile-speaker-fancies-up-a2dp/">wireless speakers</a>? There were tons of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/21/cue-acoustics-ps1-wireless-speakers-do-audio-over-dlna-we-go-ha/">options</a> out there already, but <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/11/jbl-ships-airplay-enabled-on-air-speaker-dock-charges-stiff-pre/">JBL</a> just threw one more into the ring with its On Tour iBT. As we'd expect form the audio gurus, the system boasts wireless audio internals that play nice with both A2DP and AVRCP Bluetooth devices. In addition to four JBL Odyssey transducers, the kit packs a built-in microphone for Facetime or hands-free calls, an adjustable <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/29/jbl-intros-onbeat-ipad-iphone-ipod-speaker-dock-prices-it-a/">iPad</a> stand and a USB connector for charging -- when the Katy Perry tune blastin' device is plugged in itself, of course. Interested? It can be yours now via the source link for $150, but if you'd care to take a closer look before committing, peep the gallery below.<br />

We know <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/EV">EVs</a> of the future will lose their ability to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/13/senate-approves-pedestrian-safety-enhancement-act-ensures-a-fut/">silently kill</a>, but how about replicating engine noise for the enjoyment of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/editor/tim-stevens">bonafide petrolheads</a>? Eagle-eyed readers will note that's a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/14/fisker-karma-hybrid-sports-car-to-generate-motor-noise-through-e/">promised feature</a> of the upcoming (but ever-delayed) <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/fisker+karma">Fisker Karma</a>, but here beating it to market is BMW's upcoming M5 -- sort of. M&uuml;nchen's implementation coined "Active Sound Design," won't blast engine machinations on the outside, but instead internally overlays the harmonic soundtrack of the twin turbo V8 over internal speakers as you drive. That audial racket is based on throttle position, engine revs and speed, and gets even louder when the car is set in Sport or Sport+ modes. No word on if you'll be able to customize with other soundtracks (a la Karma), but there's nothing a little enthusiast hackery can't fix...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/26/bmws-active-sound-design-is-like-putting-your-head-under-the-ho/">BMW's Active Sound Design is like putting your head under the hood of the new M5</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 26 Sep 2011 06:19:00 EST. <span>A while back, you probably splurged for that </span><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/16/altec-lansing-debuts-new-ultraportable-imt630-speakers-for-iphon/">insert</a>-<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/16/sony-unveils-300-rdp-x500ip-speaker-dock-gives-your-ipad-some/">iPod</a>-<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/12/airplay-enabled-music-tap-systems-touted-by-pioneer-free-us-fro/">sound</a>-<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/31/revo-k2-is-a-mountainous-slab-of-music-blasting-aluminum/">system</a>-<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/25/altec-lansing-mix-imt810-is-big-loud-desperately-seeking-ione/">here</a><span> thinking you'd get some pretty good mileage out of it. If you also jumped ship at some point along the way (read: switched to Android), <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/22/dualink-cable-charges-two-iphones-on-one-usb-port-no-problem/">CableJive</a> can help keep your bookshelf system cranking for a little while longer. </span>The dockBoss+ adapter features micro-USB and audio plugs opposite a 30-pin connector, the latter of which fits nicely in one of the eight quadrillion iOS-compatible sound systems currently on the market.<span> </span>Now, you can port that valuable charging action to your existing handset -- plus,<span> the accessory also features a built-in charge converter for FireWire-enabled cables and docking stations, if needed. Not only that, but the dockBoss+ will also work in tandem with your iOS-centric car or home stereo -- </span>unless you're still clinging to the factory head unit in your VW Beetle... bummer.<span> </span>Those looking to pick one up can do so starting September 28th for $30<span>; a handful of Lincolns is much easier on the ol' wallet than a brand new one of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/08/soundfreaqs-sfq-01-bluetooth-audio-system-exemplifies-gorgeous/">these</a>, that's for sure.</span><br />
<br />
*<em>Assuming, of course, that you're cool with a few cables hanging out, and that your handset actually uses micro-USB.</em><br />

Alright, so check this out -- that thing above is both a 5W LED light bulb <em>and </em>a 10W wireless speaker. Around the edge is a ring of glowing diodes with a four-stage dimmer, while the center is a 2.25-inch driver that speaks to a dock via 2.4GHz wireless. The AudioBulb from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/giinii">GiiNii</a> is a fairly unique way to kick out the jams anywhere in your abode and they disappear into practically any lamp. A basic setup of two bulbs, a dock and a remote will set you back a surprisingly steep $299, but you can add on up to six more bulbs for $99 a pop. Speaking of rooms and bulbs, you can configure the speakers to work in stereo pairs or in mono, and set up two zones with different volume levels.<br />
<br />
The dock is a chintzy feeling piece of plastic with an integrated iPhone/iPod connector and around back you'll find an auxiliary jack for the non-Apple fans. The dock can connect to the speakers from up to 100 feet away, depending on the environment, and comes pre-paired with the bulbs in the box. Adding additional speakers requires just the push of a button on the base and bulb simultaneously to get the party started. It was tough to hear the tunes over the din in the hall at Pepcom's event, but we're confident it can't quite compare with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/01/sonos-play-3-review/">Play 3</a>. They did, however, give off enough light to keep their little corner of the convention well lit. Check out the gallery below as well as the PR after the break.<br />

Had your eye on an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/06/philips-fidelio-ds3801w-another-ring-shaped-airplay-speaker-do/">AirPlay accessory</a> for your iPhone or iPod touch? Well, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/25/pioneer-appradio-hands-on/">Pioneer</a> is looking to help you pull the trigger on one. The company has announced a new set of AirPlay Music Tap systems that enable access to your music library without being chained to a peripheral. By connecting one of these bad boys to your home WiFi or ethernet network, you'll be able to access your entire iTunes library in various locations throughout your home -- 'course, having Apple's free Remote app will ensure maximum utility. Other features include a 2.5-inch full-color LCD display, Pandora, iHeartRadio, vTuner internet radio and Air Jam, which allows for playlist sharing on your arsenal of the company's Music Tap systems. When this pair drops in October, you'll have your choice of the X-SMC-3-S for $400 or the more dapper, bluetooth-enabled X-SMC4-Elite for $480. You can take a peek at the Elite, along with the full PR, after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/12/airplay-enabled-music-tap-systems-touted-by-pioneer-free-us-fro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>AirPlay-enabled Music Tap systems touted by Pioneer, free us from living room control</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/12/airplay-enabled-music-tap-systems-touted-by-pioneer-free-us-fro/">AirPlay-enabled Music Tap systems touted by Pioneer, free us from living room control</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 12 Sep 2011 02:03:00 EST. What can you get for $300 these days? A bunch of stuff, probably, including the latest <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/23/yamaha-yht-s400-sound-system-packs-ultraslim-soundbar-sub-infus/">soundbar from Yamaha</a>. The YAS-101 Front Surround System offers up 7.1 sound, a built-on 60-watt subwoofer and support for Dolby Digital and DTS. The UniVolume feature, meanwhile, helps maintain a constant level through loud volume increases during commercials. IR codes can also be sent through the speaker bar, so you don't have to worry about it blocking the set. Check out some press info after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/11/yamaha-yas-101-walks-into-a-soundbar-orders-a-stiff-glass-of-7/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Yamaha YAS-101 walks into a soundbar, orders a stiff glass of 7.1</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/11/yamaha-yas-101-walks-into-a-soundbar-orders-a-stiff-glass-of-7/">Yamaha YAS-101 walks into a soundbar, orders a stiff glass of 7.1</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 11 Sep 2011 18:41:00 EST. Okay, we admit it, we want one of these <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AngryBirds/">Angry Birds</a> speaker docks from Gear4 seen on the floor of IFA here in Berlin. They're available in both iPod dock varieties (pigs) and as plug-and-play speakers (angry, angry birds). Both will begin shipping in the next few weeks in Europe and the US. The non-dock version should sell for around &euro;69. They'll likely hit the spot for those casual gamers who aren't getting enough of the irate fowl between their <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/11/angry-birds-gets-a-web-version-in-google-chrome/">web browser</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/19/roku-2-hd-xd-and-xs-officially-launch-same-price-smaller-siz/">set-top box</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/08/rooted-nook-wifi-loaded-with-angry-birds-soars-then-stalls-vid/">e-reader</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/02/life-size-angry-birds-comes-with-giant-slingshot-more-realistic/">university</a> and local <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/02/london-philharmonic-orchestra-goes-cover-band-with-tribute-to-vi/">Philharmonic</a>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/">Angry Birds Speakers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/#4419312"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/angry-birds-speakersdsc1402gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Angry Birds Speakers" title="Angry Birds Speakers" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/#4419313"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/angry-birds-speakersdsc1404gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/#4419314"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/angry-birds-speakersdsc1405gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/#4419315"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/angry-birds-speakersdsc1407gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/angry-birds-speakers/#4419316"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/angry-birds-speakersdsc1408gall_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/06/angry-birds-speakers-are-too-adorable-to-slingshot/">Angry Birds speakers are too adorable to slingshot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 06 Sep 2011 22:02:00 EST. Those of you who kinda dug <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/11/jbl-ships-airplay-enabled-on-air-speaker-dock-charges-stiff-pre/">JBL's On Air</a>, but wished it was just a tad more wheel-like, will probably love this AirPlay-enabled speaker from Philips that just passed through the FCC. Burdened with the name DS3801W, this ring-shaped Fidelio unit not only packs WiFi, but a USB port for charging and playing back music from your iDevices, as well as an "MP3-Link" jack (which appears to be just a 3.5mm audio plug) for all your non-Apple players. We got a brief hands-on with its battery-packing sibling, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/22/philips-fidelio-speakers-with-airplay-hands-on-video/">DS3881w</a>, at IFA and we expect this unit to ship for a little less than that model's $330 price point. Check out the source link for a bunch more images, as well as the user manual and all the RF exposure reports you can handle.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/06/philips-fidelio-ds3801w-another-ring-shaped-airplay-speaker-do/">Philips Fidelio DS3801W, another ring-shaped AirPlay speaker, does the FCC tango</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 06 Sep 2011 09:58:00 EST.
