The creator of Disaster Report 4, Kazuma Kujo, may have suffered a small setback when his game was canceled following the earthquake in Japan last year. But it hasn't turned him off of game development for good: he reports via Twitter that his new studio at developer Granzella is hard at work on a new title for both the PS3 and the PS Vita. Kujo says that the game will be downloadable, though the PSP isn't planned to be supported at this time. It's a completely original IP, he says, but wouldn't tell Twitter followers in what genre it would be. Granzella is working on at least two titles for the PS3 and the Vita, and this is presumably one of them. Kujo also says he'd like to make a war strategy game at some point, similar to the old R-Type Tactics games, and that he knows followers are looking for a Steambot Chronicles sequel in the future as well. Let's just hope production for all of these goes a little smoother than last time.

Ha! Did you really think Atlus was done announcing PSP games for this year? The PSP love continues with Steambot Chronicles Battle Tournament, scheduled to arrive in the US this Summer. This four-player mech battling game lets you create your own robots and use them in hot robot-on-robot action. Take on missions, kick some ass, get new parts, upgrade your robot, and repeat. One of the most exciting features supported by Steambot Chronicles is the Ad-Hoc Game Sharing mode. With this feature, four PSPs can play against each other with just one copy of the game. It's a good way of giving friends a small taste of the action.%Gallery-49798%

  • Gamestop sells demo disc as new game

A disgruntled NeoGAF poster bought what he thought was a new copy of Steambot Chronicles from Gamestop, only to find out later that the US retail chain actually sold him a demo disc for the game, with the "Demo: Not for Resale" watermark scribbled out in sharpie marker. This sort of thing is entirely possible thanks to Gamestop's policy of holding discs from new games behind the counter. The customer brings the empty case up front when purchasing, and the underpaid Gamestop employee finds the corresponding disc and puts it in its box. The major problem with this system becomes abundantly apparent with incidents like this: consumers have no real way of knowing if the disc they're being handed is the one that Gamestop employees originally yanked out of the packaging. The best advice we can offer is to double-check Gamestop purchases for scratches, scuffs, or sharpie scribblings before walking out of the store. Unfortunately, we doubt that Gamestop's policies are going to be changing anytime in the near future.[Via Gemaga]

Irem's Kazuma Kujou (the producer of Disaster Report and Steambot Chronicles), is reportedly working on a new PSP title. In an interview with Gpara, he mentions that he's working on a sci-fi strategy game for our beloved system. He unfortunately didn't reveal any other details about the game. Later in the interview, he did say that he'd like to explore player freedom in an upcoming game. Though it is unknown if that desire specifically applies to this upcoming PSP release. I quite enjoyed both Disaster Report and Steambot Chronicles. They still stand out as being unique, even in the crowded PS2 gaming space. Let's hope he can bring that same quirky and creative gameplay to the PSP.[Via IGN]
