Twitter has released a list of the top ten re-tweeted Twitterers for 2010. Yes, it was a landmark year in which Colbert -- who takes home the top prize -- made a funny about the oil spill, Drake said something vaguely wise, Lil Wayne announced his return from prison, Bieber said something we couldn't be bothered to translate, fake Al Qaeda knew what was up with geo-location, Joe Jonas made fun of someone with less cred than himself, Lady Gaga reavowed her freakdom, Kanye said he was sorry to Taylor Lautner for calling him a wimp, Rihanna made fun of someone with less cred than herself, and some random person's dad said some mildly amusing stuff. Yup, that about sums it up.
Twitter's 2010 Most Retweeted list includes Colbert, Gaga, and Bieber, reminds us how boring we all are originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 15 Dec 2010 13:35:00 EST. Last night the man behind the Keep Fear Alive campaign sat down with one of tech's luminaries -- Google's Eric Schmidt -- for a frank discussion about just exactly what it is that his company does. While the focus was on Google's precarious relationship with our personal data, it would be hard to sum up the entirety of the conversation in a quick post (that's why Skynet invented video). It is interesting to see Schmidt dodging what are incisive and extremely sharp questions (though veiled in sarcasm they may be) from Mr. Colbert. Put aside the next five minutes or so and do yourself a favor: watch the thing.
Continue reading Google's Eric Schmidt faces off with Stephen Colbert

Google's Eric Schmidt faces off with Stephen Colbert originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 22 Sep 2010 11:05:00 EST.
Dean Kamen showed up on The Colbert Report last night to show off Luke -- the advanced prosthetic arm he's been working on with DARPA and the Defense Department for the past few years. Besides the requisite Segway jokes (and Colbert's are pretty funny, we'll give him that), it's pretty heart-warming to see Kamen and his crazy awesome arm hanging out with our favorite faux Republican. Just more proof that Colbert is a major gadget nerd. Let's get straight to the meat. The iPad was doing the talk show rounds last night, with heavy hitters David Letterman and Stephen Colbert one-upping each other on who can do the sillier thing with it. Letterman went with the old school "if you don't know what to do with it, lick it" routine, while his competitor brought out a more sophisticated salsa preparation act. Pick your favorite from the videos after the break. In more material news, Apple has announced that MobileMe now includes the iPad among its supported devices, while some eager souls over at MacStories have spotted that iTunes 9.1 now references an "iPad remote," which suggests the nearly 10-inch tablet will soon be able to function as one of the most luxurious channel changers around. And you thought you wouldn't find a use for it.
Continue reading iPad roundup: Letterman licking, Colbert chopping, MobileMe and Remote support

iPad roundup: Letterman licking, Colbert chopping, MobileMe and Remote support originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 02 Apr 2010 08:03:00 EST. What caused the wait until 2010? Apparently that's how long it took to upgrade the control room for these shows that are continuously in production, but at least we'll get to see how many CNBC thumbnails Stewart can squeeze into a 16x9 frame before the Mayan calendar runs out.
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert begin HDTV broadcasts January 4 originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 18 Dec 2009 15:56:00 EST. Taking aim at Microsoft's recently unveiled Project Natal, Stephen Colbert unveiled a new-new console on The Colbert Report the other night. The XXbox (or Ex-Xbox, one of our readers cleverly pointed out) bests Natal's lack of controller by at least one point, lacking a console and games. For about 500 bucks, it sounds like a steal. But you know, we'll buy any new gadget. Video is after the break.
Of course, it all seems so obvious now! How did we not interpret El Jobso's true meaning of the iPhone kill-switch -- it actually kills you. We have noted iPhone expert Stephen Colbert to thank not just for this brilliant deduction, but also for sticking up for the lot of us and giving the iPhone 3G a cold staredown -- but not before declaring, "I knew I should have gotten a Zune! They can't kill me... or do anything else." Zing! Clip after the break (iPhone at 5:45).

[Thanks, Matt]
Continue reading Colbert's top threat of the week: killer iPhones.

You'd think that after begging for, and apparently receiving, a free iPhone last year, Stephen Colbert would have figured out how to hold the damn thing by now. Katie Cotton's not going to toss you an iPhone 3G freebie acting like this. Oh wait, fake television news isn't real? The "t" is silent? Oh bum bot. We remember when you were fresh out of the hands of creator Rufus Terrill. Now look at you -- featured on the Colbert Report. You may have seen photos of this vagrant-deterring robot before, but you haven't lived till you've seen the hard-hitting, in-depth coverage that Stephen Colbert delivers on it. Take a look at the video after the break to see a defender of America (and bot) on the front lines of battle.

[Thanks, Tony S.]
Continue reading Homemade security 'bum bot' turns up on the Colbert Report

Homemade security 'bum bot' turns up on the Colbert Report originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 25 Apr 2008 13:57:00 EST. For most of us, having Steve Jobs' direct attention is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (well, actually, it's a never-in-a-lifetime event for the overwhelming majority of the populace, but stay with us here). Stephen Colbert got his this week, introducing Viacom CEO Phillipe Dauman via video clip at D5. Jobs was, of course, a big player at D, and Colbert did his best to take advantage by suggesting that a gratis iPhone in his pocket -- followed by a mention on his show -- might be just the trick to spurring sales (notice that he's ogling an imaginary iPhone in this screen grab). We suspect the effort was for naught; iPhones are as scarce now as they've ever been, never mind the fact that the media has generated pretty much all the buzz Apple can handle free of charge. Might we suggest working a company that's a little less stingy with prerelease units, Stephen?
Continue reading Stephen Colbert makes play for iPhone at D5

Stephen Colbert makes play for iPhone at D5 originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 01 Jun 2007 11:49:00 EST.
