British Airways just set a new record for subsonic flight -- with some help from nature. The airline has confirmed Flightradar24 data showing that one of its Boeing 747s completed a New York to London flight in just 4 hours and 56 minutes, handily beating the previous best of 5 hours and 13 minutes set by Norwegian in 2018. A typical version of this flight takes 6 hours and 13 minutes, Flightradar24 said. The aircraft was helped by a stronger-than-usual (200MPH-plus) jet stream that took the 747 up to 825MPH -- technically faster than the speed of sound, but not supersonic as the winds would have prevented the aircraft from breaking the sound barrier.

  • Album of inaudible animal sounds puts you inside the head of a bat

Even with fancy Hi-Fi equipment, the weak link is often our ears and their limited 20Hz-20,000Hz hearing range. As pointed out by Motherboard, artist Jane Winderen wants you to get a feeling for what it's like to be a whale or bat with her "Out of Range" album. To do that, she used special equipment to record bat echolocation signals, marine vocalizing and other sub- and ultrasonic sounds from glaciers, oceans, and forests. From there, she slowed frequencies as high as 100KHz until they became audible, then mixed them with other exotic sounds that are within our hearing range. The end result (below) is hypnotic 40 minute recording of sounds that normally pass you right by.

A question out there for our young friends: is Totally Spies really that popular? We might be out of touch with what kids like, but our experience with it was that it was just an unexceptional, poorly animated, anime-looking cartoon. But apparently it's enough of a big deal to have its own games, and now its own line of game accessories in Europe.French accessories manufacturer Subsonic has revealed their Totally Spies DS accessories, including cases, styli, and chargers. The, uh, "WOOHP Bag" seen above actually looks pretty useful, if you don't mind the, uh, flower stuff and Totally Spies pictures.%Gallery-21385%

Wii Fit owners will have a relatively wide selection of Balance Board covers from which to choose -- especially vast given that most will probably choose the option of no cover. It's no surprise -- as long as it's easy to produce, requires no electronics, and serves a mass-market game, accessory companies are going to be all over it. The Balance Board cover is the new fake tennis racquet. In addition to the perfectly-fine-looking "Silicon Fit" mat, the European accessory company Subsonic is also releasing two more Wii Fit-minded accessories. The "Fitkit" contains a battery pack for the Balance Board -- which we'd be too scared to try -- as well as a cleaning kit. The "Fitbag" is a carrying case for the Balance Board that includes space for the game and various other accessories. Plus it has a name that sounds totally filthy to us for some reason. %Gallery-19155%[Via GamesPress]
