IMAX's laser projectors are worth the pricier ticket

I'm no fan of movie theater gimmicks. 3D glasses, giant screens, 4D "sensory experiences," food and drink service have simply never been worth the added ticket prices for me. That was, at least, until I sat down to watch Captain America: Civil War on IMAX's newest 3D laser projector system.

  • The Suicide Squad comes to Lego Batman 3 in early 2015

Following Warner Bros.' recent announcement that a film based on DC Comics' Suicide Squad will debut in 2016, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham will soon receive Suicide Squad-themed DLC. Excuse me, that should read "The Squad." Despite taking place within Belle Reve prison and granting players control of iconic Suicide Squad fixtures like Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and Deathstroke, the DLC and its characters are only ever referred to as "The Squad." Much as comic book devotees might hate the change, this makes sense. The grim moniker isn't central to the group's appeal and Lego Batman 3 is aimed at a younger crowd. Plus, the DLC's description makes no mention of the explosive collars that earned the Suicide Squad its name, so it seems likely that the more graphic elements of the comics have been excised from the DLC or purposely shied away from. Still, any excuse to feature Amanda Waller in a video game is a good one, even if her team is less sociopathic than usual. The Squad will be available in early 2015. It will be priced at $3, but can also be purchased alongside all of the other Lego Batman 3 DLC packs in the game's $15 season pass. [Image: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment]

  • Batman animated film based on Arkham series gets suicidal trailer

The DC Animated film based on the Batman: Arkham series of video games, which we initially reported on back in February, has been given its first trailer. The film will feature appearances from several Arkham series mainstays such as Joker and Harley Quinn, as well as the first Arkham universe appearance of the Suicide Squad, a supergroup of villains who team up for the greater bad. If you know nothing of the Suicide Squad, here's all you need to know: one of the villains in the film calls himself Captain Boomerang. Say no more, we're onboard. While the Suicide Squad was teased and hinted at during both Arkham Origins and Arkham Origins Blackgate, it looks like this will be the first time we see the group as a cohesive whole in the Arkham universe. Kevin Conroy will reprise his role as Batman, while Troy Baker will once again voice Joker. The film is not yet rated, nor does it have a release date. [Image: DC Animated]

  • Questionable EVE attack deals 30 billion ISK in damage

reddit_url = "http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/10/10/questionable-eve-attack-deals-30-billion-isk-in-damage/"; reddit_target="gaming"; Tweet It's often said that EVE Online is a game that revolves around PvP. Even people who engage only in PvE aren't safe from the wrathful influence of other pilots. Players are almost forced to compete with each other in a ruthless open sandbox where all the rules are thrown out the window. Even in the relative safety of high-security space, the threat of harm isn't completely removed. Scams, spies, corporate infiltrations and suicide attacks are a common occurrence in New Eden, forcing players to stay aware of their surroundings and exercise good judgment. This week, a player by the name of Solarius became the unfortunate target of EVE's more ruthless player element. Solarius, CEO of Quantanamo Corporation, was running missions in high-security space in his Paladin when players destroyed his ship in a coordinated suicide attack. What makes this particular suicide attack special is the sheer magnitude of the loss. Solarius had fit the ship with an impressive array of rare and expensive officer modules, putting the total value of his ship at over 30 billion ISK. Since a destroyed ship drops around half of its modules as loot, flying a ship with such an expensive setup is almost guaranteed to draw some unwanted attention. Pilots from the corporations Honorless Internet Jerks, Ex Obscuritas, Suddenly Ninjas, Alarm Clock Corp and Defner.org jointly participated in the attack and split the proceeds from the loot. To put the magnitude of this kill into perspective, 30 billion ISK could currently buy over 80 PLEX, which is around seven years of game time. To buy the same number of PLEX with cash would cost over $1200 U.S., making this a costly warning to all EVE players that you're never completely safe in New Eden.

  • Suicide Squad game in production, says DC's Geoff Johns

During a DC Universe panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, DC Comics chief creative officer Geoff Johns revealed plans for a game adaptation of the .... less than well-known Suicide Squad. According to Comics Alliance, Johns revealed as much during a panel on the ever-expanding DC Universe, only saying that the game would be "hardcore violent." Comics Alliance believes it could be released alongside the film of the same name, currently in-production. Unfortunately, Johns didn't give any further details, or even an idea of when we might hear more about it. Given that DC Comics HQ isn't too far from our offices, though, we might assemble a Suicide Squad of our own and head over to find out more. We've already said too much!
