Super Stardust Ultra, an upgrade of Resogun developer Housemarque's original 2007 release known as Super Stardust HD, will bring the twin-stick shooter's fast-paced, spherical battlegrounds to the PlayStation 4 in early 2015 for $12.99. As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, Super Stardust Ultra will offer new planets, new game modes and visual upgrades, as well as an Interactive Streaming mode that lets viewers "vote periodically to change up your gameplay." High score rivalries can run rampant via leaderboards, but players will also be able to send challenges directly to their friends. Should things get heated, Ultra can host splitscreen battles for up to four players, and once you're done sacrificing a friendship for points, you can try mending things in the returning co-op mode. Just remember: Bragging rights are highly effective at instantly dissolving truces. [Image: XDEV, D3T]

Although the game statistics page may mention modes like Survival Mode, players have had a hard time finding them in the game. Problem? They're not in the game. IGN smartly realized that many features listed in the promo text for the game is not included in the $10 download. Rather, the game will follow its PS3 older brother, and will offer these modes as future DLC.While we're willing to shell out more for more Stardust, we're not sure how well the online microtransaction system will work for the handheld crowd. Considering $10 isn't much to start a game, we're hopeful that portable gamers won't mind paying a bit more for additional content.[Via Joystiq]

If there's one classic concept that video games have taught us, it's that things from outer space are coming to kill you. In the case of Super Stardust Portable, said things are mainly calamitous asteroids, intent on colliding with your puny spaceship and the planet below. The downloadable PSP title, a handheld rendition of the popular rock-blasting shooter on PlayStation 3, will become available on the PlayStation Store next Thursday, December 4th, for $9.99.Those used to the chaotic action of Super Stardust have a new "Impact" mode (bombs and boosts only!) to look forward to in this version, as well as a new final boss. Not that we thought you'd be bored without them -- the PSP version promises to hurl over 1,000 objects at the field at any given time. As programming lead Kimmo Lahtinen points out, "That's a lot of things to shoot."

The upcoming PSP version of the popular shooter Super Stardust may be arriving in November, if importer Play-Asia is to be believed. The game has a release date of November 20th for Asian markets on UMD.Considering Super Stardust Portable is supposed to be a PSP downloadable title, it appears that it will get a simultaneous UMD/download release -- at least in Asia. Hopefully, it won't be long until Sony confirms a date for this sweet addition to the PSP lineup.[Via PSPHyper]%Gallery-27754%

What is Super Stardust Portable? Well, it's exactly what it sounds like. It's a PSP version of Super Stardust HD, ready to play anywhere you go. The PSN download-exclusive title is making the big jump from PS3 to PSP, and Housemarque (developers of the original SSHD) have succeeded in creating an authentic Stardust experience for the handheld. There are obviously going to be two big questions on everyone's mind regarding SSHD. Firstly, the controls. PSP may not have a second analog stick, so how will this work? Well, you simply use the face buttons to shoot in the direction you'd like. It may take a little while to get accostmed to, but SSHD vets will be boosting, bombing and shooting in no time. (ProTip: To do a circular attack with the Gold Melter, press all the face buttons at once.) Secondly, the graphics. While the visuals are obviously toned down from the PS3, the PSP version is able to render a surprising amount of enemies on screen while maintaining a silky smooth framerate. It may not be PSP's best looking game, but for a quick pick-up-and-play title, SSP offers more than enough detail.%Gallery-27754%
