Super Stickman Golf is a great title that I've been playing for years -- it's a big standby for games journalists in particular for some reason, and every time I come to a conference full of games writers, like this week at GDC, there's always someone playing it at any given time. The company behind the app, NoodleCake Studios, has just released a sequel called Super Stickman Golf 2, and it's now available for US$0.99. In terms of gameplay, the sequel is basically the same as the original. You are still playing golf on a 2D course, with some wacky obstacles and layouts in your way, and just a single "Go" button to take your shot and then set your power. But of course, as it's a sequel, there is plenty of new content included, with lots of new courses, new powerups and new ways to customize your characters. Hats are a big deal this time around, with some of them providing extra bonuses and stat boosts as you play. There's also a new turn-based mode, so you can pass turns back and forth among your friends, and there's lots of new social integration in the game itself as well. The race mode is back, and in general, the gameplay seems much smoother and better-built. And there are lots of other fun extras, including iCloud support and Bluetooth multiplayer again. Super Stickman Golf 2 is an excellent app -- it's not a groundbreaking update over the first game, but it's a solid sequel, and definitely worth the 99 cent price.

LittleBigPlanet 2 How fitting that for my last contribution to Joystiq's Game of the Year list, I should learn the bitter sting of having my number one choice not breach the Top 10. LittleBigPlanet 2 improved upon the original -- already one of my favorite games of all time -- in every conceivable way, offering one of the most user-friendly, charming UGC systems in gaming history. There is nothing I've thought of that LBP2 wasn't able to create, and that includes a level about interstellar poultry abduction.

Hothead Games' great freemium card game for iOS, Kard Combat, has gotten a big update this week in the App Store. The biggest new feature is a new "pass-and-play" multiplayer mode, which allows for two players with one iOS device in the same place to play their cards out, and then pass the device on to the next person. Obviously, it requires a little bit of honor on the part of players, but if you just want to play a friendly game of Kard Combat, it's a cool mode to try. Game Center multiplayer has also been added to the game to work inside iOS 5, and there are new UI updates and a few other new features in there as well. Firemint's line-drawing stealth game Spy Mouse has also gotten an update, bringing in new global leaderboards, new challenges, and a few other bug fixes and other tweaks. Kiska, the in-game cat which will help you get past some of the tougher levels, can now also be used once per hour rather than just once per day. Artistic platformer Contre Jour also got a nice update, adding 20 new levels to play through, featuring a cool opposite visual style from the rest of the game. And finally, while it hasn't been updated recently or anything, I'll also just mention that Super Stickman Golf is free today as well. If you haven't picked up this great little 2D fantasy golf game for iOS, now's the time.

One of our absolute favorite iOS games here at Joystiq HQ is undoubtedly Super Stickman Golf. Our Android-owning ilk have long watched in envy as we battle each other in brutal, Bluetooth multiplayer when we're in meatspace and action-packed asynchronous leaderboards while in the digi-verse. So, for the Android users out there, we have good news and bad news. First, the good news: Super Stickman Golf is coming to Android this Thursday for the not unreasonable price of $0.00. And unlike some of Android's most popular free games, Super Stickman Golf is ad-free. Developer Noodlecake Studios has added in microtransactions, founder Jordan Schidlowsky tells us. "You can purchase more 'powerups' mid round if you run out," he said. While the Android release has "all the holes, hazards and heartbreak fans have come to expect from Super Stickman Golf" it is missing one major, massive feature: Multiplayer. When asked on Twitter if the Android release would support multiplayer, Schidlowsky replied, "Not at launch, but we're working on it." For the price, you're going to want to grab SSG regardless of that (hopefully temporary) shortcoming. %Gallery-134320%

Super Stickman Golf is a golf game, and a pretty good one at that. But it's not like any golf game you've ever played before. For one thing, it's played in 2D. Like Worms, you line up a shot, hit an energy meter right where you want it to go, then send your ball across a variety of 2D stages. But this is a wacky game of golf -- some of the stages have floating islands and other obstacles in them, and some of your shots can either get hit or roll off at weird angles. Fortunately, you have some help in the form of ball power-ups, so your golf balls can stick to the walls, freeze in midair or otherwise careen around the stages. It's a lot of fun; it's still golf, but it's more of a wacky arcade sport than the "good walk ruined." The presentation is great, with solid controls and good music to back up the proceedings. There's an amazing amount of content, with six clubs, over 250 holes to play, multiplayer and Game Center leaderboards and more content on the way. At just US$0.99 during a current sale, Super Stickman Golf is a bargain. If you're still not sold, there's a free version to check out as well.
