Tales from the Borderlands is dressed to kill in its first screens, which aptly showcase Telltale's dialog choices alongside Gearbox's penchant for violence. The upcoming collaboration stars data-miner Rhys and con-artist Fiona as the two playable characters, Of course, some familiar faces from the Borderlands series show up, including mysterious Borderlands 2 assassin Zer0. Telltale says its wasteland adventure is "premiering" in the summer, although we're still waiting to find out which systems are on the red carpet. There's a clue that some form of Xbox is on the guest list, and we're guessing it's most likely the original Xbox. [Image: Telltale Games]

George R.R. Martin's series of fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, is immensely popular, especially thanks to HBO's Game of Thrones adaptation. It's to be joined by another take on the property from adventure gaming studio Telltale Games. To help Telltale keep its adaptation of Martin's source material in check, HBO assigned sci-fi author and Martin's personal assistant Ty Corey Franck to the developer as its story consultant, according to The New York Times. Telltale announced its Game of Thrones adaptation at the VGX awards in December. The partnership between Telltale and HBO spans multiple years and games, and NYT reports that it began with a little persuasion from the developer in the form of a 10-minute presentation of what the game may look like when it launches this year. Game of Thrones is just one project that's keeping the 200-person developer busy, as it recently launched the third episode of The Wolf Among Us, as well as the first two episodes of the second season of The Walking Dead on Vita. We recently met with Telltale's producers and The Wolf Among Us voice actor Adam Harrington, the voice behind Bigby Wolf, for a special one-hour livestream of the game filled with funny and interesting stories. Joystiq Streams is already the stuff of legend, so it's no wonder we're drawn to Bill Willingham's long running Fables comic book series. Like its supernatural stars Snow White, Bigby Wolf, and Cinderella, we, too, are nigh-on immortal and in constant combat with evil despots forcing us to live exiled in New York City. That last part isn't true. What is true is that we'll be playing the very first episode The Wolf Among Us on Joystiq Streams alongside its creators and we'll be giving away heaps of codes for both that episode and Steam season passes. Tune in right here to this post or the Joystiq Twitch channel at 4PM EST as we stream The Wolf Among Us: Faith alongside Telltale Games producer Chris Schroyer and actor Adam Harrington, the voice behind Bigby Wolf. While the Vita still lags behind its console and computer counterparts, fans of Telltale's critically beloved The Walking Dead won't have to wait much longer for the second season of the emotionally charged zombie adventure. Barring any unforeseen catastrophe, The Walking Dead: Season 2 will make its Vita debut on April 22. To make up for the delayed release, Telltale has opted to launch both Episode 1 and Episode 2 of the new season simultaneously. Come April 22, both episodes will be available from the PlayStation Network Store at a price of $5, though if you plan to eventually play through all five planned episodes of Season 2, you'll find that the $15 Season Pass offers a 20 percent discount over purchasing each episode individually. Additionally, Telltale has announced that The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season is now available on Android devices including the Nvidia Shield, Amazon Fire TV and Amazon Kindle HDX. Telltale has lupus'd in on when we can fetch the third The Wolf Among Us episode. It'll be April 8 for PC/Mac and PS3 in North America, followed by Xbox 360, PS3 in Europe and iOS the next day. Telltale put out a trailer for episode three yesterday, but if you've yet to begin the adventure game from The Walking Dead studio, you'll want to skip watching it and wolf down the first two episodes first (there be serious spoilers in the trailer). Telltale Games is bringing three of its story-driven adventures to Amazon Fire TV starting with the first season of The Walking Dead, which launched today with the media streaming device. The second season, in addition to The Wolf Among Us and the developer's Game of Thrones-based adventure, will arrive on Fire TV later this year, Telltale confirmed with Joystiq and Engadget. Amazon launched the $99 game and video streaming machine today, announcing it alongside a $40 game pad (though developers have the option to support other Bluetooth controllers). Telltale unveiled its own Game of Thrones adaptation in December before launching the second episode of The Wolf Among Us in February. The developer offered a new trailer for the third episode of the game today, though no release date was given for it. [Image: Telltale Games]

Spoiler warning ahoy! The middle episode in Telltale's "Fables" adaptation was always going to be an important one, so no surprises the launch trailer exposes a few surprises. However, the most eyebrow-raising thing about the video is the lack of any launch date to go with it - not often you see that with a launch trailer, even for a Telltale game. Still, it's a strong sign we'll soon be scouring the streets of Fabletown with Bigby Wolf, and no doubt a welcome one after the four-month wait for Episode 2. In any case, we'll keep you updated on all the dates and launch news for Episode 3: A Crooked Mile as it arrives. [Image: Telltale Games]

  • Tales From The Borderlands first details emerge from SXSW vault

    03.09.2014

A panel at the SXSW festival has shed new light on Tales From The Borderlands, the story-driven adventure game collaboration between Telltale and Gearbox. Polygon reports that the two main characters, Rhys and Fiona, will narrate the story from a future perspective - in other words, what you play is what the characters say happened. Telltale President Kevin Bruner told the panel's audience, "You never really play what actually happened, you're playing this Big Fish version of what happened." Given that Rhys works for megacorporation Hyperion (which is led by Borderlands 2 villain Handsome Jack) and that Fiona is a con artist, that's shaky ground to stand on. The characters' backgrounds also means that they won't be world-saving heroes; these are people motivated primarily by greed. Unlike Telltale's The Walking Dead or The Wolf Among Us, which often force players to choose between bad and worse, Tales From The Borderlands will present players with two extremely desirable options. The game's tone will also set it apart, as it will be a lighter, more humorous affair than Clementine or Bigby's misadventures. Tales From The Borderlands is due later this year. "A House Divided," the second episode in Telltale Games' second season of The Walking Dead, hits iOS devices today, following up on its recent launch via Steam and for console digital platforms. The latest episode in Telltale's post-apocalyptic adventure game series finds the young Clementine and friends in the midst of a conflict between rival factions of survivors. To celebrate today's release of its second episode, Steam's Midweek Madness Sale has reduced the price of The Walking Dead season two by 33 percent. As of this morning, those visiting Steam can pick up season two of The Walking Dead for $16.74. That price grants access to the two episodes that have already launched and the three slated for release later this year. While we can't speak to the quality of those sections we've yet to play, the first two episodes have been quite good. Episode one earned 4.5 of 5 stars in our review, while episode two picked up 4 of 5 stars. Being a Steam sale, this promotion only applies to the PC and Mac incarnations of The Walking Dead season two. Those hoping to get in on the deal should hurry: That $16.74 price point is only available until March 7 at 10AM PT. [Image: Telltale Games]

  • The Walking Dead Season 2, Episode 2 review: Body count

Clementine is holed up with two factions of angry, desperate survivors. One group cowers on the floor, while the second flashes their guns and makes an example of a rival survivor with two quick, non-lethal snaps. Clementine watches the torment from a raised landing, where she's hiding with two allies who argue about their next move. They reach an impasse and turn to Clementine for advice. Let's get that straight: Two adults, who have weathered the zombie epidemic for more than a year, pause in their argument about a serious, life-or-death situation to take tips from the 11-year-old girl. An 11-year-old-girl that they would have easily shot two weeks ago. She still has pigtails. She also has good advice. "A House Divided," the second episode of The Walking Dead's second season, presents Clementine as a complete, independent character for the first time. Though she is surrounded by people – mostly adults – she doesn't answer to any of them, and she doesn't depend on any one person for survival. She can hold her own and she has demonstrated her skills to her new companions. They trust her, and she trusts herself.

There's no point trying to hide on Xbox 360 and iOS, Clem, because A House Divided is also headed their way this week. After originally leaving the platforms in release date limbo, Telltale revealed the second episode of The Walking Dead Season 2 hits Xbox 360 on March 5 - that's tomorrow - and iOS on March 6. The PC/Mac version is due today, as is the PS3 version in North America - as ever, PSN users in Europe have to wait until tomorrow. Also, Telltale says Season 2 is "tracking" for Vita by the end of this month, and it's set to launch with the first two episodes. [Image: Telltale Games]

Update 2: Telltale sends us word that Windows PC/Mac is also confirmed for March 4, in addition to PS3 in North America. Dates for the PS3 in Europe, Xbox 360, iOS "will be confirmed shortly." Update: Sony says Episode 2 hits PSN for PS3 in North America next week on March 4. No confirmation yet, but we expect that means a same-day release on Xbox 360 and PC. Also, Sony notes the Vita version of Season 2 is "tracking" for the end of March, and will launch with the first two episodes. Clementine's misadventures of death, betrayal, heartbreak, and more death continue in the second episode of The Walking Dead Season 2. • Makeshift fix for The Wolf Among Us 360 season pass issue

    02.06.2014

Yesterday, we brought you word of an issue which left Xbox 360 players who purchased the season pass for Telltale's The Wolf Among Us unable to download the game's second episode. Today, Microsoft offers a solution. "All The Wolf Among Us season pass owners will be sent Xbox 360 console system message codes that will allow them to download Episode 2 for no additional charge," reads a message recently added to Telltale's support page. "If you intended to buy a season pass for The Wolf Among Us, but haven't yet, you can continue to do so. New season pass purchasers will also receive codes by console system message while the title update is in progress." Following this, the site offers players a detailed walkthrough on how to use their new codes. Though this doesn't solve the ongoing issues Xbox Live is experiencing with certain downloadable content offerings, it does allow users to enjoy the game they've already paid for in a timely manner. Microsoft and Telltale are currently working together on a title update that will prevent such problems from happening in the future, but a timeframe for when that fix might debut remains unknown. • The Wolf Among Us bitten by season pass issues on Xbox 360

Following yesterday's release of the second episode of Telltale's The Wolf Among Us, those who purchased a season pass on the Xbox 360 began reporting problems with their game. "I bought the season pass but there is only an option to buy [Episode 2], no option to download it with the season pass," reads one of the few complaints suitable for publication. 17 pages of comments follow that remark, the majority of which claim that owners of the season pass are not being given immediate, gratis access to Episode 2, despite having already paid for the entirety of The Wolf Among Us. Telltale Games has yet to offer users a solution, but says that Microsoft is looking into the issue. "Note: Microsoft is investigating a current issue regarding season passes for TWAU on 360 and will supply progress updates via @XboxSupport," Telltale tweeted. So far, the @XboxSupport Twitter account hasn't mentioned The Wolf Among Us, nor provided additional information on this problem. Update: Telltale has issued a more comprehensive statement, noting that the issue stems not from the developer but instead from ongoing problems with DLC on the Xbox 360. "We are aware of the issue on XBOX Live Marketplace affecting Season Pass owners of The Wolf Among Us where the user is still prompted to purchase Episode 2 even though they own the Season Pass. There appears to be an issue on XBOX Live affecting multiple titles with DLC offerings and Microsoft is actively working to resolve the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and are hopeful it will be resolved soon." [Image: Telltale Games]
