Curious to see how the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/02/sony-tg3e-worlds-smallest-1080i-camcorder-unboxed-sized-up-wi/">world's smallest 1080i camcorder</a> holds up under the intense pressure of shooting a family vacation on an absolutely stunning island, are you? Good news -- our brethren over at Engadget Classic have spent some quality time with the HDR-TG3E / HDR-TG1 (model dependent on region), and sure enough, they wrote up an in-depth review to give you all the information you need to make the right choice. No spoilers here, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/15/sony-tg3e-tg1-camcorder-review/">head on over</a> and take a gander for yourself.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/reviews/" rel="tag">Reviews</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sony/" rel="tag">Sony</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/15/sonys-hdr-tg3e-hdr-tg1-hd-camcorder-reviewed/">Sony's HDR-TG3E / HDR-TG1 HD camcorder reviewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 15 May 2008 14:15:00 EST. We had the good fortune to receive a Sony <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/02/sonys-worlds-smallest-tg3e-1080i-camcorder-unboxed-sized-up-w/">HDR-TG3E</a> (aka, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tg3e">HDR-TG1</a> for North America) review unit on the day we departed for a bit of tropical relaxation. As such, we return with a real world look at how the Titanium-shelled TG3E performed in the sun, surf, and sand of an honest to goodness family holiday. We set off with high hopes for the world's smallest 1080i (1920 x 1080/60i @ 16Mbps) camcorder, high enough that we left our trusty <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/26/sanyos-xacti-dmx-hd700-is-worlds-smallest-and-lightest-720p-ca/">Xacti HD700</a> at home. Not high enough to leave behind our aging, but proven 5 megapixel point-and-shoot still camera though. So, how did it do? Review after the break.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Update</span>: Added .m2ts formatted video samples for download.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/15/sony-tg3e-tg1-camcorder-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sony TG3E / TG1 camcorder review</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/15/sony-tg3e-tg1-camcorder-review/">Sony TG3E / TG1 camcorder review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 15 May 2008 12:49:00 EST. Get a load of what just arrived at the doorstep of our European HQ -- the world's smallest 1080i camcorder, Sony's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/tg3e">TG3E</a>. Otherwise known as the TG1 in the US, this pup is small and sturdy and definitely looks the part of a Full HD (as it's defined for camcorders) 1080i shooter. Hell, Sony somehow managed to turn that boxy design into something sexy to hold. However, Sanyo's 720p Xacti DMX-HD700 (in red) still trumps the TG3E in size and weight. Unfortunately, it gives up significant lines of resolution in the process and uses inferior materials to boot. We'll be back later with a full review of this pup as soon as we find a nice, tropical island which can pamper this beast in the luxury a $900 camcorder deserves. So until then, check the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-worlds-smallest-tg3e-1080i-camcorder-unboxed-sized-up-with-720p-champ/">gallery over at Classic</a> and call out in the comments with any questions you'd like us to tackle.<br /><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/other-hardware/" rel="tag">Other hardware</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sony/" rel="tag">Sony</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/02/sony-tg3e-worlds-smallest-1080i-camcorder-unboxed-sized-up-wi/">Sony TG3E: world's smallest 1080i camcorder unboxed, sized-up with 720p champ</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 02 May 2008 05:10:00 EST. Whether you call it the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/03/sonys-900-hdr-tg1-worlds-smallest-1080p-camcorder/">HDR-TG3E</a> (as it's known in Europe) or the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/03/sonys-900-hdr-tg1-worlds-smallest-1080p-camcorder/">HDR-TG1</a> (as it's been dubbed everywhere else), it's still the world's smallest 1080i camcorder. Tracy and Matt got their hands on an early unit for all your unboxing and first-impression pleasures. They're already "very impressed" with the "fabulous" image quality when viewed on their 50-inch plasma. Don't let the Queen's English and SCART adapter fool you, this is pretty much exactly what you can expect to land Stateside next month. Click through for the moving pictures then hit up that read link for a more detailed analysis -- looks like Sony's got themselves a winner.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/11/video-sonys-worlds-smallest-tg1-tg3e-1080i-camcorder-unboxe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: Sony's TG1 / TG3E -- world's smallest 1080i camcorder unboxed, previewed</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/11/video-sonys-worlds-smallest-tg1-tg3e-1080i-camcorder-unboxe/">Video: Sony's TG1 / TG3E -- world's smallest 1080i camcorder unboxed, previewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 11 Apr 2008 04:21:00 EST. We'll go ahead and let those <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/16/panasonic-announces-worlds-smallest-sdhc-based-camcorder/">other guys</a> battle <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/01/panasonics-hdc-sd7-dons-title-of-worlds-smallest-hd-camcorder/">it out</a> for the "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/24/micro-camcorder-dubbed-the-worlds-smallest/">world's smallest</a>" camcorder title -- meanwhile, Sony's just cranked out the one to <em>really</em> pay attention to. The HDR-TG1 Handycam checks in at just 1.3- x 4.7- x 2.5-inches and weighs ten ounces, all while boasting the ability to capture those oh-so-precious vacation moments and unannounced streaking episodes in <strike>1080p</strike> 1080i. Aside from that, it'll snag stills at 4-megapixels and holds everything on MS Pro Duo / Pro Duo Mark2 cards, while the 2.7-inch touchscreen keeps your eyes glued to the action.
