The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot's playerbase knows well the busywork of sorting heaps of loot to find great items, but now they can leave the task to a sidekick and focus on earning glory. Ubisoft Montreal has added four pets to the free-to-play dungeon crawler, which tag along for castle raids if you're willing to part with the involved funds. Players can pick between Lil Flameo, a miniature crimson dragon, Lil Arachbro, a spider Ubisoft describes as "adoragross," Snugglemuffin, a hamster that rolls around in a protective ball, and Mr. Squiddlins, a bucket with an eye and a tentacle. They all serve the same purpose, but Mr. Squiddlins can be purchased with 7,000 gold, while the other three pets are available in exchange for 575 Blings, the game's currency that's exchanged for real-life money. Adventurers seeking a particular grade of loot can tell their pet which types of items to covet and which to ignore via the Options menu. If you're ready for a sidekick, you can adopt a pet at the in-game Cornelius' Emporium. [Image: Ubisoft]

This should come as little surprise to consistent Steam users, but the digital distribution platform is holding a sale on some video games over the weekend. Italics. A smattering of tempting deals are lined up right now, starting with The Bureau: XCOM Declassified for under $12.50 (and also now available for Mac). Episodic crime adventure series The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief is also part of this weekend's deals and on sale for $6.24. A digital deluxe version, including the game's soundtrack and other digital goodies, is on sale for $7.50. Coffee Stain Studios' tower-defense shooter hybrid Sanctum 2 is free to play this weekend and only $2.24 if you want to buy. Free to play game Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign is holding a sale on three booster packs, each unlocking various characters in the puzzle offshoot. Early Access dungeon crawler The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot is down to $13.39. These deals will last for varying lengths – some games you've only got 48 hours to grab, while others are cheap until January 27 – so if you're interested, boot up your Steam client and give 'em a gander.

  • The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot traps you for hours of fun

It might sound like a bad thing, but my favorite part of playing Ubisoft's The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot is logging into the game. I just love it when I get past the loading screen that warns "closed beta" to see who has attacked my castle and how the attackers fared during the attempt. Usually they have just blown past my defenses and humiliated me, but thanks to a wonderful replay feature, I can see exactly where my castle is at its weakest and can adjust accordingly. Every player in the game gets a castle like mine. They're all floating in the sky, chock-full of riches that are up for grabs as long as the attacking player can get past the castle's defenses. The gameplay is nothing really new. We have been playing castle defense or action-based puzzlers for a long time, but The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot delivers everything in such a polished, unique-looking package that it gets props for being unique. There's much more to the game, but you'll have to get past my glue traps to read the details!

The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, the game with the cheeky title that turns into a monstrosity of an acronym, has arrived on Steam. Ubisoft Montreal's free-to-play game is available as part of Steam's Early Access program, and while it's free, there are several bundled packages for sale. The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot is a multiplayer action game that incorporates castle-building (and pillaging) and is currently in closed beta. Massively will be taking a closer look at this game in the near future, but in the meanwhile, why not give it a whirl and sound off in the comments?
