Star Wars: The Force Awakens is nearly upon us, and Engadget's gaming crew can barely contain itself. Life for Sean, Tim and Jess has been a constant struggle between the pain of being patient and the fear of encountering spoilers out there on the internet. How does one cope with such stress, such anticipation? By playing old Star Wars games, of course! Today we'll be taking a look at the PlayStation 4 ports of Star Wars: Racer Revenge and Super Star Wars, as well the classic Tie Fighter space sim on PC and, if there's time, the cinematic adventure of Rebel Assault II.

  • A sleek, Star Wars-inspired music box

That's no moon -- it's the MusicMachine 3, a state-of-the-art music box from designer Maximilian Busser, largely inspired by the TIE Fighter from Star Wars. It doesn't hook up to your iPhone, it can't stream Spotify and it doesn't have a USB input anywhere along its bulbous, spider-like chrome body. It does, however, play music. The MusicMachine 3 plays six songs via a roller lined with metal pins that catch on the teeth of a comb as they rotate. With these pins, Busser's latest music box plays the themes from Star Wars, Mission: Impossible, James Bond, The Godfather, The Persuaders and Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence. The MusicMachine 3 has 72 musical teeth in total and the entire piece is designed to amplify and enrich the sound of each note. Hear for yourself below.

You've had the option of playing X-Wing and TIE Fighter (aka some of the finest Star Wars games ever) on modern PCs for a while, but let's face it: you've been waiting to buy them on Steam, haven't you? If so, you now have your chance. X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance have reached Valve's store, complete with their expansion packs. In the case of the first two spaceflight titles, you even have your choice of playing the DOS-based originals or their Windows re-releases. They normally cost $10 each ($30 as part of a bundle), but a promo will knock 10 percent off the price if you pick any of them up by May 7th.

Last year, when 50 Cent's SMS Audio released a line of Star Wars-themed headphones, it was something for the fans. This year, 50's riding on some good timing. With the movie trailer for The Force Awakens still lingering in many people's retinas, SMS Audio is launching a second line of on-ear cans inspired by the franchise. This year it's R2D2, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and the TIE Fighter that get immortalized as headphones (joining Rebel Alliance, Stormtrooper, Galactic Empire and Boba Fett models from 2014). There's mention of passive noise canceling, as well as 40mm drivers to deliver the sound. Each pair costs $200 and will available sometime in Q2 this year -- much less of a wait than for the next movie installment, at least.

LucasArts may no longer exist thanks to Disney, but that doesn't mean its legendary games are lost forever. Like we pointed out yesterday, Good Old Games posted the download links to the likes of TIE Fighter and X-Wing a bit prematurely. Well, the classic-game emporium's fixed that wrong and now you can grab those games from a galaxy far, far away right now. Need something a bit funnier perhaps? That's what Sam and Max: Hit the Road and Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition are for. Now if you'll excuse us, we have a Death Star to destroy.

Wesco Limited is offering up a TIE Fighter webcam, which -- truth be told -- would look completely ridiculous sitting atop your LCD. That being said, those of you already chatting it up with your fellow nerds on an R2-D2 webcam won't mind one bit. You'll also be interested to know that there's a complete dearth of specifications, though we do know that a pair of LEDs just below the camera lights up to brighten your cheery face. It's available for now around $40, and proceeds go directly into funding George Lucas' next extravagant vacation.[Via DigitalDrops]
