What can you do when no one's got a phone to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/20/iband-like-the-velvet-underground-but-with-iphones/">jam</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/14/iphone-musicians-invited-to-perform-live-with-indie-legends-good/">with</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/07/iphone-orchestra-at-the-vanguard-of-smartphone-music-making-push/">you</a>? Why, you can be a geeky one-man band, of course! Web developer Steffest (just one name, like Sting or Madonna) managed to do just that by strapping a couple of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/android">Android</a> devices (possibly an Archos 5 and a HTC Desire), a couple of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/windows+mobile">WinMo</a> handhelds (looks like a HP iPAQ h1940 and a HTC Touch Diamond), and an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipod+touch">iPod touch</a> on top of a portable speaker. All this just for a forthcoming presentation on mobile cross development -- Steffest had to painstakingly write the same audio program "in Java for Android, in C# for Windows Mobile and in Objective-C for iPhone." Oh, and it doesn't just end there -- turns out this dude can also <strike>pluck</strike> tap away a good Neil Diamond classic on this five-way nerd-o-strummer. Get on board and check out the video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/08/phone-guitar-iphone-os-windows-mobile-and-android-got-all-nigh/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Phone guitar: iPhone OS, Windows Mobile and Android got all night to set the world right (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/08/phone-guitar-iphone-os-windows-mobile-and-android-got-all-nigh/">Phone guitar: iPhone OS, Windows Mobile and Android got all night to set the world right (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 08 May 2010 04:58:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">If there's any better argument for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/17/windows-phone-7-series-everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know/">rigid spec requirements</a> for Windows Phone 7 Series hardware, it's this video of an HTC Touch Diamond running the OS at an especially syrupy pace. Indeed, the lag is so severe that it could very well be some trickery in the form of a RDP client running on a 7 Series emulator, which is in turn running on a PC -- which, now that we think of it, is a pretty good possibility. Whichever way they achieved this feat, it's certainly not a recipe for a viable handset. But we do know that these sort of "ports" are only going to increase as time goes on. See for yourself after the break.<br />
<br />
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Sure enough, the author of the video has fessed up that this is an RDP hack job -- in other words, it has absolutely zero bearing on how WinPho 7 would actually perform in some post-apocalyptic future where it's been successfully ported to the Touch Diamond (that being said, we certainly wouldn't be surprised if the herky-jerky action ends up being just about accurate).</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/29/windows-phone-7-series-screwed-and-chopped-onto-htc-touch-diamon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Windows Phone 7 Series screwed and chopped onto HTC Touch Diamond (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/29/windows-phone-7-series-screwed-and-chopped-onto-htc-touch-diamon/">Windows Phone 7 Series screwed and chopped onto HTC Touch Diamond (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 29 Mar 2010 16:51:00 EST. <div align="left">Looks like Verizon's up to something (and we're not talking about <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Sholes/">Sholes</a>). A quick trip over to VZW's site has confirmed that $99 -- and a two-year contract -- will land you just about any smartphone that they offer (one notable exception being the Samsung Saga), including HTC's Touch Pro and Touch Diamond. Could this mean that the new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/verizon,touchpro2">Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2</a> are soon to rear their pretty little heads? We'd be down with that.</div>

Remember that pretty <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/26/oh-by-the-way-july-26-2009/">Windows Mobile 6.5-ish skin</a> for AT&amp;T's Warhawk (a.k.a. HTC <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/TouchDiamond2/">Touch Diamond2</a>) we saw last week? Looks like it (or another very similar skin) is ready to make another appearance. <em>The Inquirer</em> managed to get a walkthrough of what's being called the final build of WinMo 6.5, and while there isn't a lot of new functionality shown -- large portions of the video are devoted to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/myphone/">My Phone</a> syncing and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/10/microsoft-co-opts-qr-codes-pet-shop-boys-not-stoked/">QR codes</a> -- we do get to seem a few Zune inspired ideas and a brief glimpse of how it handles flash. It's still on track for release by Christmas, and if you want your glimpse now, check out the video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/02/windows-mobile-6-5-htc-touch-diamond2-and-flash-collide-on-vid/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Windows Mobile 6.5, HTC Touch Diamond2, and Flash collide on video</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/02/windows-mobile-6-5-htc-touch-diamond2-and-flash-collide-on-vid/">Windows Mobile 6.5, HTC Touch Diamond2, and Flash collide on video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 02 Aug 2009 03:27:00 EST. If you'd take your eyes off the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/TouchDiamond2/">Touch Diamond2</a> for five seconds, we could point you in the direction of a couple fixes for your still-awesome phone that might give it a little more staying power for you and keep your hard-earned dollars (or pounds, euros, whatever) stowed in your pocket for at least a few weeks or months longer. First up, we've got a hotfix for eradicating skipping audio, which is about the most annoying thing imaginable when you're trying to chill out to some tunes, drift away, and just forget the Touch Diamond2 for a few frigging minutes, right? Next up -- and this probably isn't something you've ever noticed -- there's another hotfix for fixing an incorrectly grayed-out Repeat option in the Sound &amp; Notifications control panel. Go on, make it happen.<br />

We're pretty <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/more-details-on-htcs-touch-diamond-touch-pro-for-verizon-and/">baffled</a> by the immensely large $299.99 on-contract sticker (after $70 mail-in rebate), and honestly, we just don't see VZW moving too many of these before a price drop. "Better late than never," so they say. Perhaps -- but with Sprint's version of this in the rear view mirror <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/09/14/sprints-touch-diamond-now-available/">for half a year now</a>, just how relevant is a <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/TouchDiamond/">Touch Diamond</a> on Verizon these days? Odds are we'll find out next month -- or, at least, that's where the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/03/07/touch-diamond-xv6950-finally-hitting-verizon-next-month/">latest rumors</a> have it lined up for launch -- but in the meantime, we've got one floating around in the wilds looking pretty much like any other Touch Diamond you've seen in the past. Like <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/11/24/htc-touch-pro-breaks-free-on-verizon/">its Touch Pro</a>, it seems Verizon went ahead and nerfed the Diamond's memory down to 128MB of RAM and 256MB of ROM (why is anybody's guess), which only serves to reinforce our concerns that this thing is being launched months too late. We love you <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/category/HTC/">HTC</a>, seriously -- but with the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Omnia/">Omnia</a> at $99 on contract right now, we're not exactly seeing the line starting to form at 8PM the night before release, if you know what we're saying.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/08/verizons-touch-diamond-in-the-wild/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Verizon's Touch Diamond in the wild</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/08/verizons-touch-diamond-in-the-wild/">Verizon's Touch Diamond in the wild</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 08 Mar 2009 03:54:00 EST. It's sort of baffling that Verizon Wireless has <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/26/verizon-training-schedule-hints-at-blackberry-storm-touch-diam/">yet to launch</a> HTC's now aged <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/11/verizon-tidbits-versa-touch-diamond-pearl-8230-and-more/">Touch Diamond</a>, and honestly, we're not even sure that late is better than never in this scenario. While Sprint has had the thing out for a good while now, Big Red has been lallygagging around while staring aimlessly at those spectacular BlackBerry Storm sales figures. Now, <em>phoneArena</em> has it that the XV6950 could finally be arriving on the carrier's airwaves next month, and while it has yet to be confirmed, we're hearing that it shouldn't vary from the Sprint edition in terms of specs -- something that conflicts with information <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/more-details-on-htcs-touch-diamond-touch-pro-for-verizon-and/comments/13533849/">we heard</a> about a century ago. At any rate, we'd ask you to just be patient here, but chances are you're already over this thing, anyway.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/verizon-wireless/" rel="tag">Verizon Wireless</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/07/touch-diamond-xv6950-finally-hitting-verizon-next-month/">Touch Diamond XV6950 finally hitting Verizon next month?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 07 Mar 2009 12:12:00 EST. Jerk.<br /><br />[Thanks, Jack G.]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/06/keepin-it-real-fake-part-clxxxix-meet-the-htc-a296-and-its/">Keepin' it real fake, part CLXXXIX: meet the HTC A296 -- and its gaping maw</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 06 Mar 2009 13:41:00 EST. HTC is following up on its ultra-sexy touchphone, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/TouchDiamond/">Touch Diamond</a>, with the new Touch Diamond2, which seems quite worthy of the title of successor. This time around there's much more room for screen, with a huge 3.6-inch 480 x 800 LCD up front, and around back there's a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus. The other main addition is a "touch zoom bar" below the screen -- just like on big brother Touch Pro2 -- which we presume provides expected (and welcome) functionality. There's also the new version of TouchFLO 3D running on Windows Mobile, but under the hood there's the same old 528MHz processor, and the whole kit is actually a tad thicker a 0.54-inches. Still, memory is up to 512MB ROM and 288MB RAM, and if HTC keeps hoisting pixels and sexy on us at this rate we can hardly complain. This phone should hit major markets in Europe and Asia in "early Q2 2009," with more spots to follow later in the year.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/16/htcs-touch-diamond2-adds-zoom-bar-mega-screen-surprisingly-fe/">HTC's Touch Diamond2 adds zoom bar, mega screen, surprisingly few diamonds</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Feb 2009 05:30:00 EST. Aww, isn't that cute? Everyone got together for one last picture before graduation -- that magical time everyone goes their separate ways to retail shelves across the country where they'll be picked up by subscribers and adopted into loving families of their own. Here we've got four hotties that are due on Verizon in the next few months: the Touch Diamond and Versa, both of which <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/11/verizon-tidbits-versa-touch-diamond-pearl-8230-and-more/">we expect by mid-March</a>, the Nokia 7205 Intrigue, which <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/25/motorola-w755-and-a-pair-of-nokias-come-to-light-for-verizon/">we've expected for over a frigging year now</a>, and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/03/blackberry-pearl-8230-caught-in-verizon-garb/">BlackBerry Pearl 8230</a>, which will launch when it damn well feels like it. Nothing particularly amazing about this shot, but we've got to say, the Intrigue looks absolutely <em>stellar</em> -- assuming it actually comes off this good in the flesh.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/lg/" rel="tag">LG</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/nokia/" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/rim/" rel="tag">RIM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/verizon-wireless/" rel="tag">Verizon Wireless</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/12/verizons-touch-diamond-versa-intrigue-and-pearl-8230-take-a/">Verizon's Touch Diamond, Versa, Intrigue, and Pearl 8230 take a family photo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 12 Feb 2009 12:27:00 EST. <div align="left">It seems that early '09 has been the time of firmware updates for all kinds, and now Sprint's Touch Diamond has had its moment. At a quick glance, this isn't just a few bug fixes to keep the squeaky wheels smiling, but rather some major reworking of what's going on under the hood. Changes are rumored to include <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/29/shots-of-microsofts-internet-explorer-6-on-6-emerge-deepfish/">Internet Explorer 6</a> --and we thought they <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/19/microsoft-says-no-6-on-6-upgrade-for-current-devices/">weren't</a> going to do this -- new Radio, Opera, YouTube, and a pile of other treats. If you're inspired and can't wait for the inevitable, we're sure with some diligent searching you'll get your mitts on, for the rest of you, we're sure it'll pop up soon enough.<br /><br />[Thanks, Malatesta]<br /></div>

HTC's <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/diamond/">Touch Diamond</a> and QWERTY-packin' <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/TouchPro/">Touch Pro</a> have run into some stiff competition here in the US of A, but as Adam Smith would certify, all that competition is only for the best. Now that you've seen what these two can do, not to mention their rivals, we're wondering how you would change whichever handset it is (of these two, obviously) that you own. Implement a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/TouchHD/">Touch HD</a>-style display? Load it up with Android? Round those edges a bit more? Add a bigger battery at the expense of style? Say it loud, say it proud, say it down in comments below.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/09/how-would-you-change-htcs-touch-diamond-pro/">How would you change HTC's Touch Diamond / Pro?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 09 Jan 2009 05:05:00 EST. We understand that there's a snowstorm underway at HTC's website, but we're pretty darn confident that the HTC Touch Diamond there in the middle is white not from hours under the powder, but from a certain <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/24/white-htc-touch-diamond-spotted-in-the-wild/">hue of paint</a>. Last we heard from Cellular South, it was making waves by <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/26/cellular-south-wants-you-so-bad-itll-pay-your-early-terminatio/">offering to pay early termination charges</a> in order to hook new subscribers. Now, it's trying to lure even more paying customers in with the launch of the HTC Touch Diamond. The carrier, which serves much of Mississippi and portions of surrounding states, is now offering the touchscreen-based handset for $199.99 on a 2-year agreement, or if you're not really down with a data plan, it'll cost you a stiff $449.99. We're also told that a few new service plans have emerged, with family plans starting at $50 and packing in 700 to 1,400 nationwide minutes along with unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling with other CS users. Also of note, the Total Unlimited plan includes unlimited talk, text, mobile web and email for $80 / $100 per month for featurephones / smartphones.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=3678">phonescoop</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/04/cellular-south-hosts-htc-touch-diamond-for-199-99/">Cellular South hosts HTC Touch Diamond for $199.99</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 04 Dec 2008 16:38:00 EST. Not that you can't <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/01/bell-mobilitys-htc-touch-diamond-gets-video-unboxing/comments/15261107/">snag</a> an HTC Touch Diamond in Canada <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/06/htc-touch-diamond-headed-to-telus-on-august-14th/">right now</a>, but those loyal to Rogers are still waiting. As of this moment, we still can't locate the WinMo 6.1-based handset on the outfit's website, but <em>MobileSyrup</em> has it that the phone will soon be released for as low as $199.99 on a 3-year contract (with a minimum $45 voice / data plan). Oddly enough, we're also told that it'll be available with voice-only plans for $449.99 (3-year), $549.99 (1 to 2-year) and $599.99 (month-to-month), while a data-only plan is available on the $499.99 handset (3-year). Weird, we know -- which makes us all the more anxious to hear this gibberish from the horse's mouth.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/rogers-wireless/" rel="tag">Rogers Wireless</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/02/rogers-launching-htc-touch-diamond-at-199-99-on-contract/">Rogers launching HTC Touch Diamond at $199.99 on contract?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 02 Dec 2008 14:07:00 EST. Though there are fully sixteen devices comprising Softbank's latest round of phones, most are sitting in the giant -- quite literally giant, in fact -- shadow of the mighty 931SH. With the exception of a USB modem and two Nokias that are looking a little irrelevant in the face of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/27/nokia-pulls-out-of-japan-nobody-notices/">Espoo's decision to pull out of Japan</a>, though, we're going to give everyone equal time here -- so read on for the full batch!<br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-931sh.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>Sharp 931SH</strong><br /><br />Let's just jump right into the big guns, shall we? Closed, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/931SH/">931SH</a> from Sharp looks just a bit like an iPhone, but opening it reveals a d-pad and numeric keypad. What's more, the 931SH's ridiculous 3.8-inch 1024 x 480 touchscreen puts the iPhone's to shame, as does the color selection -- Black, Silver, Pink Gold, and Red -- and the camera, which measures 5.2-megapixels strong.<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-930sc-2.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>Samsung 930SC OMNIA</strong><br /><br />Everyone's getting in on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/OMNIA/">OMNIA</a> action lately, so naturally, the Japanese version has to kick it up a notch or three. To do that, it swaps out the WQVGA display found on global units with a wide VGA one, but otherwise, some of the specs should sound familiar: 8GB of onboard memory and 7.2Mbps HSDPA, to be specific. The backside is available in Black, White, and Red -- all options we'd like to see in other parts of the world.<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-x04ht.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>HTC Touch Diamond X04HT</strong><br /><br />Turns out that NTT DoCoMo isn't the only Japanese carrier that wants in on HTC's mojo. They're launching a version of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/TouchDiamond/">Touch Diamond</a> as the X04HT, but unlike the once-over the OMNIA received, the X04HT is basically a dead ringer for its international cousin. VGA, 3.2-megapixel cam, Windows Mobile -- we all know the drill by now -- and it's available in any color, as long as it's black.<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-x05ht.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>HTC Touch Pro X05HT</strong><br /><br />There's an old saying that goes something like this: "Where there's a Touch Diamond, there's a Touch Pro." Never heard that? Well, Softbank apparently has, putting its own version of the Touch Pro -- the X05HT -- right alongside the X04HT. It offers the same VGA display, 3.2-megapixel cam, and QWERTY (albeit localized) keyboard as other Touch Pros around the globe.<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-930sh.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>Samsung 930SH</strong><br /><br />At first, you might not make much of Softbank's claim that the 930SH's 15.2mm-thick shell is markedly thin -- but then you realize that it's packing an 8-megapixel camera, which elicits an "ohhhh, that explains it." Unfortunately, it looks like all the engineering went into that cam, because it's a pretty boring, unassuming flip otherwise. At least it's available in your choice of Blue Green, Black, Pink, White Silver, and Silver Violet, right?<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-830ca.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>Casio 830CA</strong><br /><br />What's this, wide QVGA? You've already lost our attention, Casio -- but let's go through the paces here: 5.2-megapixel camera, one-seg mobile TV, a trick (well, trick outside Japan, anyway) translucent dot-matrix LED display on the face, and availability in White, Gray, Black, and Orange.<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-fanfun2-830t.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>Toshiba fanfun.2 830T</strong><br /><br />A wide QVGA display, 2-megapixel camera, and artfully-angled corners should tell you that the fanfun.2 830T from Toshiba is more about looking totally awesome with the phone plastered to the side of your face than it is about taking the perfect photo. To that end, it's available in five fun (some might say "fanfun") colors: Pink, Black, White, Vivid Pink, and Gold.<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-fanfun-petit-831t.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>Toshiba fanfun.petit 831T</strong><br /><br />The important specs of the 831T are essentially the same as the 830T, but the fanfun.petit (seriously, where do these names come from?) ups the designer ante by offering changeable faceplates. The phone itself comes in White or Pink, then you choose one of six plates (or none at all, if that's how you roll) to customize the flip and make it your own.<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-830p.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>Panasonic 830P</strong><br /><br />The 830P's being billed as a simple, super-readable handset -- and the 2-megapixel camera and WQVGA display certainly back up that billing -- but it's still reasonably attractive, we suppose. Gold, Silver, Black, and Pink are your options on this one.<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-830sh.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>Sharp PANTONE 830SH</strong><br /><br />The 830SH <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/26/softbanks-spring-07-collection/">isn't the first PANTONE-branded set</a> to grace Softbank's airwaves -- and if we can keep getting crazy colors like this eye-searing green, we hope it's not the last. Yeah, it's only got a WQVGA display and 2-megapixel camera like several other of the lower-end devices here, but come on -- green. <em>Bright</em> green. Cut it some slack, alright? If the green isn't to your liking, there are fourteen other colors to choose from, so dig in.<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-830sh-s.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>Sharp 830SH s</strong><br /><br />The 830SH s continues Softbank's GENT branding -- an indication that the phone's targeted at the mature crowd with big, easy-to-read fonts and huge buttons that are virtually impossible to mispress. It looks a whole heck of a lot like the 830SH and features the same technical specs, but the color selection isn't quite as varied or vibrant: Natural Brown, Warm Pink, Deep Green, and Mat Silver.<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-730sc.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>Samsung 730SC</strong><br /><br />Who goes to Japan for a phone this boring? Not us -- and we're not sure why anyone would want this up against any other phone in the lineup -- but alas, Samsung is offering the meager 730SC for folks who are looking the simplest, most basic phone imaginable (by Japanese standards, anyhow). QVGA display -- no "wide" about it -- 1.3-megapixel cam, and just black and white shells to choose from. That's all she wrote.<br /><br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/12/softbank-823sh-tiffany.jpg"  alt="" /><br /></div>
<br /><strong>Sharp 823SH Tiffany</strong><br /><br />If you're just now reading about this phone, you're already <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/10/131k-softbank-823sh-tiffany-handset-sells-out-in-three-days/">too late</a> to get one -- but at over $100,000 a pop, it probably a moot point for you (and if it's not a moot point, we'd love to talk about some business opportunities with you). Just ten examples of the diamond-laden testament to conspicuous consumption were made, and Tiffany's even kind enough to provide owners with a lovely leather case that looks like it could've come out of a Crackerjack box. Beauty's in the eye of the beholder, eh?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sharp/" rel="tag">Sharp</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/softbank-mobile/" rel="tag">Softbank Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/toshiba/" rel="tag">Toshiba</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/01/softbank-mobiles-winter-2008-collection/">Softbank Mobile's winter 2008 collection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 01 Dec 2008 09:00:00 EST. Remember that white Sega Game Gear that you always read about -- maybe even saw in a picture -- but never managed to actually find in real life? In the minds of average Game Gear owners, it reached near-legendary status; it didn't matter that the white wasn't necessarily any better-looking than the black, the sheer rarity of the darned thing made it an object of pure, unadulterated lust. Yeah, well, that's pretty much where we are with the white Touch Diamond right now -- <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/24/white-htc-touch-diamond-spotted-in-the-wild/">we know it exists</a>, but finding one is nigh impossible, and that alone makes it a thousand shades of awesome as far as we're concerned. Taiwanese site ePrice has some hands-on shots up and we think we're loving the look of the prism effect in the new color along with the two-tone action up front; yes, we'd like to see it launch everywhere, but a certain (perhaps nostalgic) part of us wants it to stay impossibly rare.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://dailymobile.se/2008/11/29/pictures-htc-touch-diamond-white/">Daily Mobile</a>, thanks Daniel]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/30/mythical-white-touch-diamond-gets-handled/">Mythical white Touch Diamond gets handled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 30 Nov 2008 07:47:00 EST. The long, agonizing wait for Alltel to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/24/touch-diamond-release-on-alltel-looks-imminent/">come clean</a> with this gem is over. Starting today, subscribers can phone up the carrier with questions about the Touch Diamond and receive a response other than "Whatcha talkin' 'bout Willis?" 'Course, it's no shock whatsoever to see this Windows Mobile 6.1-based handset surface on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/04/fcc-approves-verizons-alltel-buy-deal-all-but-done/">soon-to-be-Verizon's network</a>, but those who've been waiting patiently will be utterly stoked to know that you can now plop down $249.99 (after all rebates and a 2-year agreement) in order to take one home.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/alltel/" rel="tag">Alltel</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/14/htc-touch-diamond-pops-official-on-alltels-site/">HTC Touch Diamond pops official on Alltel's site</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 14 Nov 2008 18:05:00 EST. Not that you haven't seen the HTC Touch Diamond <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/08/htc-touch-diamond-hands-on-up-close-and-personal-this-time/2">unboxed</a> before, but have you seen <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/25/bell-getting-touch-diamond-soon/"><em>Bell Mobility's Touch Diamond</em></a> unboxed on video before? Nah, we reckoned not. It's an HTC Touch Diamond. And it's white. Must be a white HTC Touch Diamond! Right <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/16/htcs-touch-diamond-coming-in-white/">on cue</a>, HTC's lavishly colored Touch Diamond has surfaced in the wild, and reportedly, it'll be on sale soon in the Netherlands (among other places). We're also directed to an interesting "Pimp My Diamond" website, which will seemingly enable any Touch Diamond owner to snap on a new shell to fit their mood. Wait, does that mean the white one isn't so special anymore? It hasn't been officially put up for sale just yet, but a handful of lucky <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/Alltel/">Alltel</a> types have already managed to land branded <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/touchdiamond">Touch Diamonds</a> as evidenced by a full-on unboxing that has recently surfaced on HoFo. For all practical purposes, it looks identical to Sprint's version, albeit with a different branded TouchFLO skin that could be perceived as less annoying if you hate that splash of Sprint yellow or more annoying if you prefer the dark look. At any rate, can't be long now, guys.<br /><br />[Thanks, Jeff E.]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/alltel/" rel="tag">Alltel</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/24/touch-diamond-release-on-alltel-looks-imminent/">Touch Diamond release on Alltel looks imminent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 24 Oct 2008 14:55:00 EST. When it comes to the retailin' biz, apologies don't really mean a lot to us -- unless they're accompanied by some sort of financial recompense, of course. Canada's Future Shop is graciously extending an offer to sell <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/18/telus-htc-touch-diamond-gets-video-review/">Telus' HTC Touch Diamond</a> for just $99.99 CAD on a three-year contract (a $100 discount) after it was unable to deliver on its flyer's promise of a Touch Pro this week for $239.99. The store blames the "vendor's shipping delay" for the gaffe, and you know what? We believe them.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://mobilesyrup.com/2008/10/17/future-shop-apologizes-for-htc-touch-pro-error-gives-us-diamond-for-9999/">MobileInCanada</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/telus-mobility/" rel="tag">Telus Mobility</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/17/future-shop-feels-really-bad-about-touch-pro-mixup-offers-touch/">Future Shop feels really bad about Touch Pro mixup, offers Touch Diamond blowout as peace offering</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 17 Oct 2008 16:18:00 EST. With Sprint snagging the vast majority of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/XOHM/">WiMAX limelight of late</a>, we aren't going to complain with a similar network halfway across the globe yanking it back. Out of absolutely nowhere comes HTC's first WiMAX-enabled handset, the sure-to-be-delightful T8290. Reportedly, this bugger packs a 3.8-inch 800 x 480 resolution display, 802.11g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, GSM <em>and</em> WiMAX radios and is expected to launch soon on Russia's Yota. Granted, we can't take this as hard truth or anything quite yet, but the images that reside in the read link are more than convincing. Oh, and HTC -- given that you're <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/07/htc-not-bringing-touch-hd-to-the-states/">passing on the US</a> with the Touch HD, do you think it'd be possible to get this over here for use with XOHM? Let's do a quick recap, shall we? So we pretty much know everything there is to know about Verizon's forthcoming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/storm">BlackBerry Storm</a> save for the price and release date, and so far as we can tell, Verizon's version of the Touch Diamond is still expected to be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/more-details-on-htcs-touch-diamond-touch-pro-for-verizon-and/">totally underpowered</a> compared to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/hands-on-with-sprints-touch-diamond/">Sprint's iteration</a>. Now that we've rounded the tables, let's have a look at this image above. This here is Verizon's internal training schedule, and given that employees have to complete their Storm courses before November 2nd and their Touch Diamond courses before December 3rd, we'd say you now have a pretty good idea of when these two will be landing. Hey VZW -- think you could make that "Blocking Features Assessment" available to the public? We're guessing it'd be a real hit.<br /><br />[Thanks, Anonymous]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/rim/" rel="tag">RIM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/verizon-wireless/" rel="tag">Verizon Wireless</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/misc/" rel="tag">Misc</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/26/verizon-training-schedule-hints-at-blackberry-storm-touch-diam/">Verizon training schedule hints at BlackBerry Storm / Touch Diamond release dates</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 26 Sep 2008 12:22:00 EST. Hey, Bell, you can't let <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/06/htc-touch-diamond-headed-to-telus-on-august-14th/">Telus hog all the spotlight</a> over there with its shiny (literally) new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/06/htc-touch-diamond-headed-to-telus-on-august-14th/">Touch Diamond</a>, now can you? Nah, 'course not -- we knew we could count on you! All signs are pointing to Bell launching its own version of HTC's hottest CDMA WinMo set <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/touchpro">this side of a QWERTY keyboard</a>, possibly as soon as October 15 if sales reps are to be believed. Pricing is looking like $149.99 CAD on a three-year plan with a minimum monthly plan of $45, or $449.99 contract-free if that's how you prefer to roll.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/htc/" rel="tag">HTC</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/bell-mobility/" rel="tag">Bell Mobility</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/windows-mobile/" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/25/bell-getting-touch-diamond-soon/">Bell getting Touch Diamond "soon"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 25 Sep 2008 12:32:00 EST.
