If you're trying to get the achievement In The Hall Of The Thunder King, get working on it not, because as soon as Patch 6.0 drops the achievement becomes a Feat of Strength, and the key will no longer drop. That's the word from Kaivax on the forums. Kaivax - Treasure Room Achievement -> Feat of Strength n WoW Patch 6.0.2, we will be retiring the Achievement In The Hall Of The Thunder King, as the treasure room will no longer be accessible. That achievement will become a Feat of Strength, and Elder Charm of Good Fortune will drop in place of the key to the room. source I admit I don't understand the reasoning behind this. First the legendary cloak, then the Brawler's Guild, and now the Treasure Room, all effectively removed in a few weeks. Seems strange to see so much content going inaccessible like this. But you've been warned, so if you're working on this, get a move on.

Along with a new raid, patch 5.2 introduced several solo scenarios into the mix. Some are purely for furthering the plot, but one is far more interesting than that. The Troves of the Thunder King allows you to walk into Lei Shen's treasure vaults, steal as many items and as much gold as you can, and get out. Unlike other scenarios, the Troves of the Thunder King is timed -- you aren't allowed to loiter around aimlessly in there. While some players may be confused as to the relative difficulty level of this particular scenario, there's no reason to be. This scenario is not a walk in the park. It will not allow you to grab everything in one run. It contains elements that will in fact kill you if you aren't paying attention. But it will also test every sneaky skill you have as a solo player, making the thing ridiculous amounts of fun if you approach it the right way. And that's where we come in. Let's take a brief look at the Troves of the Thunder King and how best to plunder all that plunder!

You may recall WoW Insider posting a while back about the Treasure Room solo scenario added in patch 5.2. It's a timed, five-minute all-you-can-grab loot fest, to be carried out while avoiding traps and mobs to get the most out of your run. Entry is secured by looting a Key to the Palace of Lei Shen from any creature on the island, then heading over to find Taoshi with the Shado-Pan in their cave, where the Throne of Thunder raid entrance is. The key is used to start the scenario, via a quest. Bashiok has confirmed that players can, unfortunately, only obtain a drop of this key once per week. Once you have looted a key, you will not find another on that character until the week is up, no matter how much you farm for them. This is likely a measure to keep the number of runs through the Treasure Room in check, as runs on the PTR could easily net several hundred gold, not to mention a plentiful stash of Motes of Harmony, Elder Charms and the like. Having a source for these sorts of things that was only limited by the number of mobs a player is willing to kill could have resulted in some minor issues. Bashiok does add that "Additional keys can potentially drop from other select sources, but are extremely rare and not something you can try to farm." What's more, the same is true for Shan'ze Ritual Stones, used to summon elites. Only one stone can be looted per character per week. Hit the break for Bashiok's full post.

So you quit playing WoW. That's okay: we understand. All of us here at WoW Insider have been playing the game an awfully long time, and we know it can get old sometimes. Once you've played through all the content and there's nothing but the same dailies and the same raids over and over again... well, there's only so many times you can go through the same content before it starts to lose its shine. We don't judge. However, even if you've moved on to new games, Blizzard's latest content bonanza might be enough to come back to WoW (at least for a little while). So let's talk about why patch 5.2 is worth coming back for. A huge array of new content with Isle of Thunder and Throne of Thunder We'll start with the obvious: patch 5.2 introduces a brand new zone to explore. The Isle of Thunder will unlock in stages as players on your realm complete daily quests (not unlike the Isle of Quel'Danas in The Burning Crusade). Would-be heroes join forces with one of two new factions, The Kirin-Tor Offensive (Alliance), led by Jaina Proudmoore, and Sunreaver Onslaught (Horde), led by led by Lor'themar Theron. And though we know new factions and their associated dailies sound like yet another grind, the new faction quests will at least be fun the first time. And, as with all factions, with reputation comes reward, and we're pretty sure everyone enjoys new loot.

  • All-you-can-grab loot in Patch 5.2's Treasure Room

Wowhead recently took a trip to Thunder Isle's Treasure Room to check out this new scenario, as mentioned by Blizzard on their Under Development page for patch 5.2. Blizzard's page describes it as a "single-player loot-grabbing scenario", so it seemed like a good spot for Perculia and friends to check out! As previously mentioned in the patch notes, the Treasure Room is one of the many things unlocked by gaining a lead in the War Effort on your server's copy of the Isle of Thunder, principally by carrying out different daily quests. Getting ahead in the War Effort also allows access to the Lightning Forge, one of many new Blacksmithing additions. The scenario is located in the Thunder King's Citadel, and has two steps, which were pretty simple at the time of writing: Stage 1 – Speak to Taoshi You will only have a limited amount of time to gather as much treasure as you can. Speak to Taoshi when you're ready to begin. Final Stage – Reach the Exit Grab as much treasure as you can and reach the exit before the timer expires. Looking at the image above, the treasure chests not only appear pretty clearly, but also appear very unencumbered by any enemy mobs. It's highly unlikely that this will remain the case! Wowhead's venture into the scenario also revealed more rooms whose doors were opened by levers, some of which were a considerable distance from their target doors. There's also an achievement to open ten chests in the scenario which implies that they're far harder to get to than the header image might imply. Loot so far has included things like Spirits of Harmony, Elder Charms (note: not the new Mogu charms), and the stones used to summon patch 5.2's rare bosses. Of course, this is PTR, so the loot tables could vary considerably before this launches on live servers. All in all, it looks like a fun scenario, and perhaps the first attempt at using the solo scenario technology in anticipation of the much-vaunted Proving Grounds feature! Mists of Pandaria is here! The level cap has been raised to 90, many players have returned to Azeroth, and pet battles are taking the world by storm.
