It's taken them a while to admit it, but publisher Codemasters is finally ready to confirm the existence of Overlord on PS3, due for release this summer.Titled Overlord: Raising Hell (ouch), the PS3 version will include all the downloadable content previously released for the Xbox 360 and PC versions on one shiny, blu-ray disc. Aside from this additional content, the game will remain unchanged from its predecessors, for better or for worse. Minions ahoy![Via PS3 Fanboy]

  • Three Overlord DLC packs on Live Marketplace

In last year's onslaught of groundbreaking, AAA titles, there was a a good chance for smaller gems to get lost in the shuffle -- case in point: Overlord. With wallets tightened in preparation of the year's later blockbuster releases, not many people shelled out the cash to pick up this clever Pikmin-esque treat, and our hopes for the previously announced trio of downloadable expansions for the game faded as the winter months passed. However, just as surreptitiously as the game hit American store shelves, the three Overlord DLC packs recently crept onto Xbox Live Marketplace. For 800 MS Points you can grab the "Raising Hell" expansion, which adds some new levels and challenges to the single player campaign. The "Challenge Pack" goes for 400 MS Points, and adds 7 new multiplayer maps and a new campaign difficulty. And, for the low, low price of free, you can download a split-screen multiplayer mode to enjoy with a good friend, or better yet, your most trusted minion.

  • Codemasters overrules Overlord PS3 rumor

Speaking to Eurogamer, a Codemasters spokesperson has made it inescapably clear that evil minion sim Overlord will not be conquering the PlayStation 3 anytime soon. "We are not porting Overlord to PS3." Gosh, that's a lot more direct than we're accustomed to in the world of video game news. Usually we'd expect something along the lines of "Codemasters may fail to not rule out considering the possibility of not creating a version of Overlord for the PS3 currently at this time not." The rumor initially sprang from a job listing by developer Triumph Studios which politely asked for a PS3 programmer, one capable of "porting X360/PC code base to PS3." We have no idea what game Triumph is working on next, but we sincerely hope someone sends Overlord writer Rhianna Pratchett a PS3 by the time it comes out.

  • Rumor: Overlord looking to rule over PS3 [update]

[Update: Codemasters says it's not happening.]Triumph Studios, creators of Overlord, have a job posting where they're looking for a PlayStation 3 programmer who will be responsible for "porting X360/PC code base to PS3." Well, unless they're planning to port Age of Wonders five years later, we're going to guess they're looking at "porting" Overlord to PS3.If you're a PS3 owner looking to play Overlord and just can't wait till they hire this person to do the porting, you can always just head on over to GameTap if you've got a gaming PC. A recent deal between Codemasters and GameTap means that anybody with a decent PC and internet connection will be able to play Overlord with a subscription for far less then the next-gen $59.99 price. Considering they haven't even hired the person to do the porting yet, who knows when it'll be done. Alternatively, it could be a completely new game Triumph is working on and looking to port the code for.[Thanks Vlad]

  • IGN UK rates Overlord; Verdict: Impressive

IGN UK got their hands on the retail build of Overlord, and have given the game its rounds and came back with a nice review, scoring an 8.1 . Those who liked the demo will be happy to hear that the cool experiences had in that initial level continue on through the game, with capabilities of having 50 minions on screen with no slow down. Their only gripes, gameplay wise, was that it appears to require backtracking in order to summon particular minions for their specialties later on in a given level. They also felt the multiplayer felt "tacked-on" to the over all experience. So, if you want an advance look at what's coming your way later this month, click the "Read" link.

Somewhere, deep down, we had a feeling we were going to like Triumph Studios' Overlord. The screens we'd seen looked polished and the trailers exuded a certain charm that piqued our interest from the beginning. As such, we were eager to try out the demo that was released on Xbox Live Marketplace earlier today. After a few run-throughs of the fairly short demo, we think we've reached a fair assessment of what the game has to offer. So, is Overlord the game of your (evil) dreams? • Video: Overlord media blitz begins

Judging by the increasing amount of promotional material floating around the net, Codemasters really wants Overlord to be a success. New videos are starting to come out at a daily pace, revealing the game's plot and unique gameplay elements. The first video (above) gives a brief outline of the game's story. As the new Overlord, it is your job to rebuild your dark tower as well as punish the "heroes" who destroyed it in the first place. The second video (embedded after the break) shows off a trait displayed by your minions. Labeled, "Commandment One" of "The Six Minion Commandments" the video shows players that minions will always bring you any loot that they find. We must admit, we're really starting to like the idea of dimwitted minions who will perform all of our nefarious bidding. Overlord comes out later this month.

  • New Overlord multiplayer details rounded up

Overlord is set to launch this month from Codemasters, and a NeoGAF post has rounded up a few multiplayer details for would-be Overlords everywhere. As you would expect, the multiplayer modes all involve the use of your minions to achieve certain goals. The first mode is Deathmatch, which plays out the same way it sounds. Of course, the difference here is that dozens (possibly hundreds) of minions will be facing each other at the bidding of their masters. Co-op mode has you and a friend unleashing your minions upon hordes of enemies. Again, the amount of characters on screen is supposed to be very hefty indeed. Finally, there is another mode called Plunder Challenge, in which players compete to gather (read: steal) the most treasure. Also, Triumph Studios is planning on releasing new multiplayer maps as well as an additional single-player chapter as downloadable content in the future. There are also plans to expand the game's roster of 25 monsters and add new weaponry. Sounds great, doesn't it? Now how about a demo, Codemasters? Please?

We have been intrigued by Overlord ever since we first learned of its evil, minion-controlling premise. This new trailer shows off some impressive minion armies, huge enemies, as well as a brief clip of the Overlord's bawdy mistress. We also get a look at the Overlord's dark tower. We can't wait to get our hands on the game, and luckily we won't have to wait too long. The game comes out next month you see. We've been intrigued by Triumph Studios' Overlord ever since we first learned of it. Loosing your army of minions on unsuspecting peasants sounds like jolly good fun to us. After learning about the intriguing imp controlling mechanic, we're dying to learn more about Overlord. As such, we decided to wrangle a Q&A out of Codemasters, Overlord's publisher. That, dear X3F readers, is where you come in. We need your Overlord questions. What do you want to know about the game? Who's making it? What's the deal with the enormously fat lady in the image above? Any questions you have, we want you to post them right here in the comments. We'll pick some of the best questions (along with some of our own), pack them up, and send them off to Codemasters. If you need inspiration, why not check out our Overlord coverage thus far?

  • Overlord: Like Pikmin only very, very evil

IGN has posted new hands on impressions of Triumph Studios' Overlord. X3F readers will recall that the premise of Overlord is controlling minions to do your bidding. Until now, we haven't had much more detail than that. IGN reveals that the goal of Overlord is to rebuild the Dark Tower, of which the main character has just gained possession. Rather than do all the back breaking labor yourself, you command an army of evil minions (and really, who wouldn't?). There are four classes of minions. Similar to the Nintendo title, Pikmin, each minion has special strengths. The brown minion is your everyday work horse, the blue minions can swim and heal others, the red minions are fireproof, and the green minions deal out deadly attacks from behind. Green minions must by used in a stealthy way though, because they are weak against direct attacks. Players can take direct control over minions using the right stick, enabling them to coordinate attacks using several different types of minions. An example used in the article is to send in your red fireproof minions to deal with fire wielding enemies while flanking them from behind with green assassin minions. All in all, it sounds like Overlord is really shaping up.We have some special Overlord news coming later today. In the meantime, hit the "read" link to check out IGN's full impressions.

  • Overlord cover art is minion-tastic

Godfree and his merry band over at Gamertag Radio snagged the cover art for the upcoming title from Codemasters and Triumph Studios, Overlord. We don't know too much about the game yet except that it allows you to control numerous minions to do your nefarious bidding. Based on what we've seen, these minions don't do the kinds of things that people appreciate either -- things like trimming the hedges, for example. No, these minions basically murder, pillage, and plunder, and they do it all with a jagged grin (as the box illustrates). In other words, it sounds like a fantastic game. We suggest you gaze at the box for several minutes, drink in its details, and then watch the recently released trailer.Enjoy.

  • Minions attack! New Overlord video, screens

We've said it before, but we love the concept of Overlord. As its name implies, you play the Overlord, controlling your minions in order to wreak havoc and create general mayhem. We don't know much more than that honestly, but what more do you need? The graphics are clean and remind us more than a little bit of Fable's somewhat campy style (with a hint of The Horde thrown in for good measure). The minions we've seen so far remind us of Gremlins, snickering and generally causing a ruckus. See the new trailer after the break.

  • Impish new shots of Overlord

    01.29.2007

Xboxygen brings us some new shots of Overlord today. Revealed last May by Triumph Studios (Age of Wonders), Overlord puts you in command of evil minions that do your dirty work. Your little imps and demons will do whatever vile task you command. As noted by Joystiq when the game was announced, Overlord looks to turn Fable's "good vs. evil" theme on its ear, choosing instead to give players the choice of "evil vs. more evil." As evidenced by these new shots, the game takes on the appearance of a twisted fairy tale, and we can't wait to see what the game looks like in motion. With an intriguing premise and some promising visuals, Overlord is one to watch. Hit the "read" link for more screens.

  • Overlord announced for Xbox 360 & PC, Codemasters to publish

Codemasters has grabbed the publishing rights to Overlord, a twisted action/adventure fantasy developed by Triumph Studios (Age of Wonders). The game looks to put a spin on the popular good vs. evil open-ended genre. In this case, players must decide to be sorta evil or really evil.As the new Overlord, players gain the allegiance of the Minions — a horde of impish creatures who are eagerly awaiting their master's bidding, be it to pillage, murder, or chug brew (as pictured). Overlord will be enriched by plenty of dark humor and parodies of classic fantasy scenarios. We're thinking 'Naughty Kameo'.
